About the journal Progress in Transplantation is the official journal of NATCO, the Organization for Transplant Professionals.
Journal Partners include: Australasian Transplant Coordinators Association and Society for Transplant Social Workers. Journal Associates include: Association for Nurses Endorsing Transplantation, International Transplant Coordinators Society, Japan Transplant Coordinators Organization, United Kingdom Transplant Coordinators' Association, North American Liver Transplant Social Workers and Canadian Association of Transplantation.
Transplantation is a highly specialized area of medicine in which state-of-the-art technology, research and innovative techniques combine with the perseverance of health care professionals to create an improved quality of life for individuals with serious and complex medical problems. Progress in Transplantation reflects the multi-disciplinary team approach to procurement and clinical aspects of organ and tissue transplantation by providing a professional forum for exchange of the continually changing body of knowledge in transplantation through the publication of original research, case studies, donor management issues, international papers, review articles, clinical practice issues, and policy papers of interest to the various professional disciplines focused on transplantation.
The journal is a quarterly, indexed, peer-reviewed publication.
Currently, the journal can be accessed through MEDLINE, CINAHL, the International Nursing Index and EMBASE.
Instructions to Authors
Progress in Transplantation, official publication of NATCO, The Organization for Transplant Professionals, Australasian Transplant Co-ordinators Association and the Society of Transplant Social Workers and endorsed by the Association for Nurses Endorsing Transplantation, Australasian Transplant Co-ordinators Association, International Transplant Coordinators Society, Japan Transplant Coordinators Organization, United Kingdom Transplant Coordinators' Association, North American Liver Transplant Social Workers and the Canadian Association of Transplantation, publishes a broad range of peer-reviewed clinical and procurement articles and profession-oriented material for transplant professionals. The journal seeks to provide content that is relevant to and reflective of the growing diversity of the professional transplant community.
The journal also welcomes letters to the editor, case studies in procurement and clinical aspects, clinical practice papers, original research, quality assurance guidelines, and special reports on professional, educational, economic, ethical, and medical-legal issues.
Manuscripts will be accepted for consideration on the understanding that they have not been published or submitted elsewhere, and are submitted solely to Progress in Transplantation. All accepted manuscripts are subject to editing to conform to the AMA Manual of Style, 9th edition. Authors will be asked to review galleys after copy editing and prior to publication.
Submissions are usually acknowledged within 3 weeks of receipt in the editorial office. If you do not receive acknowledgment in a timely fashion, please contact the editor. The journal cannot accept responsibility for lost or mislaid manuscripts or disks; keep copies of manuscripts and disks submitted.

Authorship Criteria All persons listed as authors must have (1) participated sufficiently in the work to take pubic responsibility for the content; (2) made substantial contributions to the conception and design or analysis and interpretation of data, and to drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content; and (3) given final approval of the version of the article to be published.
Copyright Transfer Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not being considered for publication elsewhere, and has been read and approved by all authors. The submission of the manuscript by the authors means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to NATCO, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication. The following signed and dated copyright transfer statement should accompany each manuscript:

Key Words List 3 to 8 key words from a recognized source such as CINAHL or Index Medicus that categorize the content of the manuscript (e.g., heart valves, skin)
Abstract Provide a comprehensive summary (<250 words) of the article under the following headings.
- For reports of original data: Context, Objective, Design, Setting, Patients or Other Participants, Intervention(s), Main Outcome Measure(s), and Results.
- For review manuscripts or meta-analyses: Objective, Data Sources, Study Selection, Data Extraction, Data Synthesis, and Conclusions.
- Unstructured abstracts (<150 words) are acceptable for case reports and brief communications.
Manuscripts
- Optimal manuscript length not to exceed 14 pages of pica (12-point) type
- Use double-spacing throughout (including references and legends for tables and figures)
- Number each page
- Running title in right upper corner of each page of the manuscript
- Submit an original plus 3 copies of the manuscript; do not send a disk until manuscript has been accepted for publication
- Retain a copy of the manuscript
- Clinical and procurement case studies should include a patient profile with a history of the disease and clinical problems. A discussion of clinical management should describe the flow of events followed by a summary that includes the outcome. Application of knowledge gained from this problem should be addressed (4-5 typed pages).
- Research papers should include a statement of the problem being studied followed by a review of the literature, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions.

- Follow examples below for style and abbreviations. List all authors when 6 or fewer; when 7 or more, list only the first 3 and add "et al"
- All references must be cited in numerical order in text and listed in that order in reference list
- Do not include unpublished manuscripts or data in the numbered list
- Do not use abstracts or mass media as references
- Personal communication or unpublished data must include permission from the author to cite

Acknowledgment Authors should obtain written permission from all individuals named in an Acknowledgment, because readers may infer their endorsement of data and conclusions.
Tables, Graphs, and Figures
- Type each table on a separate page and place at the end of the manuscript following the references.
- Number each table according to sequence in text (using Arabic numbers).
- Type title on top of table next to table number and define any abbreviations.
- Place footnotes at bottom of table.
- Place reference numbers with the title.
- If a table or figure has been previously published, credit must be given to the original source and written permission obtained and submitted with manuscript.
- Save tables, graphs, and figures in separate files if submitted electronically.
File Format Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, please submit the final draft on a 3.5 inch disk in one of the following formats:
- WordPerfect 6.1 or later
- Microsoft Word 97 or later
- ASCII
Label the disk with name of the corresponding author, manuscript number, and title of the manuscript.
