The Journal of the History of the Neurosciences will help the formation of a basis of historical background knowledge complementary to current understanding of the neurosciences. Contributions to the history of development in neurology over recent decades will be of assistance to neurologists working in the field. The Journal will cover all aspects of modern neurology as well as roots of the neurosciences in the more distant past. Where they contain original information or novel comment, historical and biographical accounts of individuals and institutions in the neurosciences will be accepted for publication. The history of ideas, the evolution of society and medicine, and the connection between neurosciences and the discipline of philosophy will also be open for discussion in the Journal.
Peer Review Policy:
All articles in JHN have undergone rigorous peer review based on initial editor screening and refereeing by at least two anonymous reviewers. Double-blind reviewing is done if requested.

Its domain includes (but is not limited to) historical developments in neurology, neurosurgery, neuropsychitary, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neuropsychology, and the behavioral neurosciences. Where they contain original information or novel comment, historical and biographical accounts of individuals and institutions in the neurosciences will be accepted as well. The history of ideas, the evolution of society and of medicine, and the connection between neurosciences and discipline of philosophy will also be open for study and discussion in the journal.
Submissions should go to the following editors:
From Europe to Dr. Koehler
From the Americas to Dr. Finger
All others to Dr. Macmillan
Address manuscripts to the Editors: Dr. Stanley Finger. Email: sfinger@wustl.edu. Mailing address: Department of Psychology, Washington University, One Brookings Drive, St. Louis, MO, 63130-4899. Dr. Peter J. Koehler. Email: pkoehler@neurohistory.nl. Mailing Address: Atrium Medical Center, PO Box 4464, 6401 CX Heerlen, The Netherlands.
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit three hard copies of their manuscript to the editors or make an electronic submission via the above email addresses. A disk or electronic submission will be required of all accepted manuscripts. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
300 dpi or higher
Sized to fit on journal page
EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs
Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' EProof system. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.
Offprints/Reprints
Each corresponding author will receive one copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review their proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
