About the journal

IJEX aims to provide a forum for disseminating high-quality research results in the wide domain covered by the methods of exergy analysis, entropy generation minimisation and thermo-economics. Papers on related topics such as exergy utilisation, irreversible process modelling, size and time constraints, environmental modelling, exergy waste and emissions and exergo-economics are welcome. Also welcome are studies devoted to method, modelling, theory, computational simulation, design, experimentation, and measurement. It is our objective to bring the community together in the forum for IJEX and to expand it. The hope of all of us in thermodynamics is to develop a more coherent science, and to leave for future generations a more useful methodology.

Readership

Exergy analysis is cited by many researchers and practising engineers to be a powerful tool for assessing the thermodynamic efficiencies and losses of systems and processes. Not surprisingly, therefore, the technique is used in various industries. For example, some electrical generation companies in Europe utilise exergy methods to enhance and maintain plant performance. Exergy and exergy related topics are getting the highest percentage of support in North America and Europe. Even in developing countries, there are many individual projects getting significant research money for exergy related topics.

In a world rapidly running out of fossil fuel, exergy appears to be one of potential solutions for more efficient use of energy resources and better environment and sustainability. During the past decade, we have witnessed revolutionary changes in the way thermodynamics is taught, researched and practised. The methods of exergy analysis, entropy generation minimisation and exergoeconomics have become the most visible and established forms of this change. The emphasis is now on modelling and thermodynamic optimisation, not only in the mainstreams of engineering (e.g., mechanical, civil, chemical, environmental, industrial, etc.) but also in physics, biology, economics and management. IJEX addresses the issues concerning the very active and creative community of researchers, educators and practitioners, which has grown along these very exciting new lines.

Contents

IJEX publishes original research papers, review papers, viewpoint articles, book reviews, conference announcements, and technical notes. Special issues are devoted to important topics in the area and guest edited by key figures in the area. In addition, its features include: well-prepared archival review articles on important or developing methodologies and techniques, special issues devoted to significant international conferences or seminars, book reviews, announcement of forthcoming events

Subject Coverage

IJEX covers, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Thermodynamic systems
  • Energy-related applications
  • Process optimisation
  • Energy systems
  • Exergy policies and planning
  • Exergy and environment modelling
  • Exergetic life cycle assessment
  • Industrial ecology
  • Sectoral exergy utilisation

Instructions to Authors
1. Focus and Scope
As a publisher INDERSCIENCE has over 25 years experience of journal publishing and pioneering groundbreaking new journals.

Our philosophy is to map new frontiers in emerging and developing technology areas in research, industry and governance, and to link with centres of excellence worldwide to provide authoritative coverage and references in focused and specialist fields.

Our goal is to foster and promote innovative thinking in the sciences, management, and policy fields. We see the need for synergy and collaboration between these fields rather than segmentation and isolation. Hence, our objectives are to build new links, networks and collaborations between these communities of thinkers in order to stimulate and enhance creative and application-oriented problem solving for society.

For example, our groundbreaking International Journal of Technology Management, which played a major role in coining the term 'Technology Management', is a past winner of the prestigious ANBAR Golden Page Award.

Our continued success lies in bringing together and establishing channels of communication between leading policy-makers and prominent experts in industry, commerce and related businesses as well as renowned academic and research institutions to facilitate solutions to address the key issues of the day.

INDERSCIENCE prides itself in ensuring the high quality and professional standards expected of its journals through pursuing a full double-blind refereeing process for ALL papers.

2. Formal conditions of acceptance
  • Papers will only be published in English.
  • Each typescript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been submitted for publication elsewhere in English, unless it was a conference paper, in which case this should be noted together with the statement that the paper was not originally copyrighted and that it has been completely re-written. Previous publication in another language, should also be disclosed.
  • All papers are refereed, and the Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to refuse any typescript, whether on invitation or otherwise, and to make suggestions and/or modifications before publication.
  • Typescripts which have been accepted become the property of the publisher. It is a condition of acceptance that copyright shall be vested in the publisher, unless the paper has been designated Open Access and the appropriated arrangements made. Click here for further information on Open Access. Click here for the Assignment of Copyright statement for all other papers.
  • The publisher shall furnish authors of accepted papers with proofs for the correction of printing errors. The proofs shall be returned within 14 calendar days of submittal. The publishers shall not be held responsible for errors which are the result of authors' oversights.
3. Peer Review Process

All journals published by inderscience place great emphasis on the quality of the papers they publish. Therefore, a full double-blind refereeing process is used in which:

  • papers are sent to 2-3 experts for their peer review.
  • The reviewers' recommendations determine whether a paper will be accepted / accepted subject to change / subject to resubmission with significant changes / rejected.
  • For papers which require changes, the same reviewers will be used to ensure that the quality of the revised paper is acceptable.
    4. Author Open Access option
Authors can now request Inderscience to make their articles accepted for publication available online and openly accessible to all without any restriction except use for commercial purposes. This means that readers may access, read, download or print out the article free of charge, even if their library does not hold the journal on subscription.  In exchange for these facilities, authors will pay Inderscience a simple fee to cover the cost of publication. Inderscience continues to publish its journals on subscription.  This option caters for authors that want to ensure that their work is available to anyone free of charge.
