About the journal

This journal has as its objective the publication and dissemination of original research in all fields of mechanics in medicine and biology. The journal publishes original papers in English which contribute to an understanding of biomedical science of a nano- to macro-scale or an improvement of the methods and techniques of medical and clinical treatment by the application of advanced high technology. Papers may be theoretical (including computational), experimental or both. The journal will also publish occasional reviews of advance in a specific aspect of mechanics research in medicine and biology.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscript Preparation
Please prepare your manuscript following the Journal's style. Detailed instructions on how to prepare your manuscript are available here. The downloaded package contains stylefiles for Latex2e. Authors using PC- or Mac-based word-processors should follow the PDF formatting instructions in the package.

A copy of the author agreement form can be downloaded from here.

Figures and Illustrations:
Please prepare all line drawings, halftones (gray scale) and color illustrations in high resolution, and indicate illustrations that are designated for color print.

Requirements:

  1. 600 dpi for line drawings (black and white).
  2. 300 dpi for halftones (gray scale). Do not convert from color images as they reproduce very poorly.
  3. 300 dpi for color images. Must be in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) for color separation. RGB (Red, Green and Blue) is unacceptable for color separation work. Color images to be printed in color are allowed only as agreed in the contract.
  4. Ensure all labels/annotations are sharp and clear for reproduction. Easy-to-read typeface/font like Arial, Helvetica or Times Roman are recommended for the labels.
  5. To provide softcopy of the illustrations in either eps, ps, tif, jpg, gif or bmp format, preferable on a PC platform. All illustrations should be embedded in the text. At the same time provide the illustration, example, John_fig1.eps, Hogn_fig2.eps, or John_fig1.tif, John_fig2.tif.
  6. If soft copies are not available, authors are requested to submit good original glossy prints for clear reproduction. Figure number must be clearly labeled on the back and preferably indicate which side of the figure is the top by using an arrow pointing upwards.

Color Charge:
Contributors have to pay an additional cost of US$200 for each color illustration.

Manuscript Submission
JMMB considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to JMMB, that they have not been published already, and that they are not under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Authors who fail to adhere to this condition will be charged with all costs that JMMB incurs and their papers will not be published.

Regular papers submitted to JMMB must report original research and will be subjected to review by referees. The Journal also publishes book reviews, news and details review of special topics.

If the Article was prepared jointly with other authors, you warrant that you have been authorized by all coauthors to sign this Agreement on their behalf, and to agree on their behalf the order of names in the Publication of the Article.

All submissions to JMMB are handled electronically. Manuscripts must be submitted online via Editorial Manager (EM), a fully web-based submission, peer-review, and tracking system.

New Authors: If you are submitting via this new system for the first time, you will first be required to register. From the account you create, you will be able to monitor your submission and make subsequent submissions.

Other Matters
Reprints and Page Charge: Papers submitted will not be returned. There will be no page charge and a pdf of the published paper will be provided to the first or corresponding author. Purchase orders for offprints can be made during submission of manuscripts.

Original Work/Copyright: Once a paper is accepted, authors are assumed to have transferred the copyright of the paper to World Scientific.

Code of Experimental Ethics and Practice: Contributors are required to follow the procedures in force in their countries which govern the ethics of work done with human or animal subjects. The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) represents a minimal requirement.

When experimental animals are used, state the species, strain, number used, and other pertinent descriptive characteristics. For human subjects or patients, describe their characteristics. For human participants in a research survey, secure the consent for data and other material(s) - verbatim quotations from interviews, etc. - to be used.

When describing surgical procedures on animals, identify the pre-anesthetic and anesthetic agents used and state the amount of concentration and the route and frequency of administration for each. The use of paralytic agents, such as curate or succinylcholine, is not an acceptable substitute for anesthetics. For other invasive procedures on animals, report the analgesic or tranquilizing drugs used; if none were used, provide justification for such exclusion.

When reporting studies on unanesthetized animals or on humans, indicate that the procedures followed were in accordance with institutional guidelines.

Specific permission for facial photographs of patients is required. A letter of consent must accompany the photographs of patients in which a possibility of identification exists. It is not sufficient to cover the eyes to mask identity.

For all manuscripts, non-discriminatory language is mandatory. Sexist or racist terms must not be used.
