About the journal
For 60 years Erdkunde is one of the leading international journals of geography. Founded by Carl Troll in 1947, Erdkunde has been offering
- scientific articles covering the whole range of geography;
- an internationally leading cartography with regular supplements of maps and diagrams, many of them in colour and oversize;
- state of the art-reports on recent trends and developments in specific fields of geography;
- comprehensive and critical reviews of new geographical publications;
- summaries of all articles and explanations of all maps, tables and diagrams in both English and German;
- Pre-reviewed by an international board of editors, Erdkunde combines up to date research with outstanding cartography and high printing quality at a reasonable price.

Instructions to Authors
Submitting Manuscripts Manuscripts are to be submitted in triplicate. Please send hardcopys of the manuscript and the figures to:

or submit a digital version of your manuscript and figures via email to: erdkunde@giub.uni-bonn.de
Only papers that represent original, not previously published work will be considered. Articles should generally not exceed 43 000 strokes (5 500words). All articles will be sent out for review.
Presentation Manuscripts should be accurately typed on one side only with a left-hand margin of 40 mm. A disk/CD, preferably in MS Word- or WordPerfect- format, should be sent. Authors would greatly assist the editor by setting up their typescript, headings, abstract, acknowledgements, notes, references, etc., exactly in the manner of recent issues of the Erdkunde. Manuscripts should be arranged in the following order of presentation:
First page: TITLE
Subtitle
With x figueres, x tables and x photos
author's name
Mainbody of text without figures and tables (see below) but including consecutively numbered footnotes. Footnotes should be avoided wherever possible. Where essential they must be designated in the text by superscript Arabic numerals in continuous sequence.
Last sheets:
List of references
Separate sheet:
List of figure and table captions, with numbers.
Separates sheet:
Summary (?- 1 page)
Chapter headings: Italic; all headings should be placed on the left-hand side of the text; subsequent headings should be preceded by Arabic numerals (1, 1.1, 2, 2.1 etc.)
References in the text: Quoted authors should be written in small capitals. References should be indicated in text or footnote either by giving, in parentheses, the author's name followed by the date of the paper or book; or with the date in parantheses. Quotations of text from cited works should include the page number of the quotation.
1. One author: Author's name, year and page 2. Two authors: first author's name a. second author's name, year and page 3. Three or more authors: first author's name et al. , year and page
i.g. (Troll 1975) or, ... as Troll (1975, 186) pointed out ...' or "..." (Troll 1975, 186)
References at the end of the paper in alphabetical order. examples:

Illustrations (attached separately) All graphs, diagrams, maps and other drawings should be referred to as Figures (Fig. 1:), which should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. Their position should be indicated in the text.
Tables (attached separately) Tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals (Table 1:) and given a suitable caption. References are placed at the bottom of the table.
! All illustrations and tables must have captions, which should be typed on a separate sheet. !
Proofs Authors are responsible for ensuring that all manuscripts (whether original or revised) are accurately typed before final submission. Manuscripts will be returned to the author with a set of instructions if they are not submitted according to our style. One set of proofs will be sent to the authors before publication, which should be returned promptly. The publishers reserve the right to charge for any changes made at the proof stage (other than typesetting errors) since the insertion or deletion of a single word may necessitate the resetting of whole paragraphs.
Offprints 25 offprints of each paper will be provided free of charge to the first-named author of articles. Further offprints can be purchased from the publisher if requested immediately after acceptance of the paper.
