Submission of Manuscripts
The Journal of Energetic Materials is typeset from electronic copy. Therefore, although initial manuscript submissions may be in hard copy form, following acceptance of the manuscript for publication a final electronic version and a hardcopy printout that exactly matches the electronic version must be supplied to the Editor.
Manuscripts should be submitted to Dr. Paul L. Marinkas, 322 SW 134th Terrace, Newberry, Florida, USA 32669-3081. Do not attempt to send the files by E-mail. Instead, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts on diskette, clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. The diskette should be checked for viruses; please do not submit any diskette that contains a virus.
Alternatively the manuscript files may be uploaded to the Journal Web site. Instructions for electronic upload via the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) are at
<http://marinkas.com/1900.html>
Preparation of Manuscripts
Electronic text files should be prepared using MS Word?or WordPerfect? Authors may download the manuscript template, a Microsoft Word?document which provides the proper JOEM format, from
<ftp://marinkas.com/pub/template.doc>.
Illustrations, tables, and figures should be clean hard copy originals or separate digital TIFF, EPS, or PSD files; do not embed illustrations, tables, or figures in the text file.
All parts of the manuscript should be double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. On the title page, include full names of authors, academic and/or other professional affiliations, and the complete address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent. Citations in the text are by author(s) and date in parentheses. Full citations should be arranged alphabetically double-spaced and must conform to The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. Examples:
Journal Article: Gunn, E. M., Ballard, S. C., and Devine, M. D. 1984. The Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act: Issues in federal and state implementation. Policy Studies Journal 13M:353-364.
Book: Keeney, R. W. 1980. Siting Energy Facilities. New York: Academic Press.
Illustrations
Illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be submitted as clean hard copy originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction. Submit illustrations as separate files; do not embed them within the Microsoft Word?document or Word Perfect?text file. They should have resolution of 300 dpi or higher, and be sized to fit on the Journal page. Please use only TIFF, EPS, or PSD format for these digital files.
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good-quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be clean hard copy originals or separate digital files. Do not embed tables or figures within the Microsoft Word?document or Word Perfect?text file. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. Any original hard-copy figures should be clearly marked in blue pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated. Be sure that every figure has a brief descriptive legend and that every table has a concise title.
Copyright
Each submitted manuscript must be accompanied by a signed and dated Transfer of Copyright form stating that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. The form may be downloaded from
<ftp://marinkas.com/pub/Copyright.doc>.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
Page Proofs
When page proofs for an article become available for review, authors will receive e-mail correspondence from Taylor & Francis with instructions for accessing their article, making corrections, and returning final proof to the production department, all via the Internet. There will be a link in the e-mail providing authors access to a PDF version of their proofs and to a proofs response form. Authors may respond by filling out this form online, or they may fax or express mail their proofs to Taylor & Francis. Authors may access only their specific paper. The Editor will have expanded access and will be able to review all articles for a given issue. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction.
Reprints
The corresponding author of the article will receive a complete copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis by using the reprint order form included with page proofs. |
