About the journal The Japanese Heart Journal, first published in 1960, was renamed the International Heart Journal in January 2005. In January 1960, the Japanese Heart Journal Association was founded at the University of Tokyo to publish bimonthly an academic journal in the fields of clinical and experimental cardiovascular research. For more than 40 years, the Association has been publishing manuscripts on cardiovascular medicine that originated mainly from within Japan. In recent years, however, the Association has been receiving a great number of submissions from overseas. Submissions from outside Japan exceeded those from within Japan in 2001, and the percentage of foreign submissions reached 66% in 2004. To reflect the increasing international significance of the Japanese Heart Journal as an international journal, the Association has decided to rename it the International Heart Journal as of January 2005. We look forward to your continued interest and support of the Journal.
Ryozo Nagai Editor-in-Chief
Instructions to Authors
Original Communications: Manuscripts reporting original work in the fields of clinical or experimental cardiovascular research, case reports, letters, and all other editorial communications should be addressed to:
|
Dr. Ryozo Nagai, MD, Editor-in-Chief, International Heart Journal Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo, 7-3-1, Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-8655, Japan |
Final acceptability is subject to review by the Editorial Committee. Manuscripts: Three copies of all manuscripts and figures (high quality photos) should be submitted. Manuscripts should be printed on one side of good quality paper with double spacing and liberal margins. Pages are to be consecutively numbered.
The first page should include: the title, full names of the authors with academic degrees, institutions, sources of any grants (if the authors wish), a running title not to exceed 50 letters (including spaces), and the address for mailing proofs.
The second page should contain a concise summary and up to 10 key words or short phrases not used in the title. The summary should not exceed 250 words.
The introduction to the paper, unlabeled, should provide a brief statement of the specific topic under study and its relation to the field with which the subject is concerned.
Following the introduction, original articles should, as a general rule, be organized with the following headings: Methods (materials and methods), Results, Discussion, and, if necessary, Conclusion. The Methods should contain explicit and concise descriptions of all methods or procedures and materials used in the work. The Methods section should include specific methods used to prepare the data and the level of significance used for hypothesis testing. The Results ordinarily contain the data presented without extended discussion of their significance. The Discussion should be pertinent to the Results and as concise as possible within the limits of the ideas the authors wish to convey. We do not receive manuscripts by E-mail, sorry. Copyright:Copyright will be transferred to the IHJ Association upon the acceptance of a manuscript for publication. A manuscript can not be reproduced by anyone, except by the original authors, without the permission of the IHJ Association. Conflict of Interest Policy:Authors of research articles should disclose at the time of submission any financial arrangement they may have with a company whose product figures prominently in the submitted manuscript or with a company making a competing product.
Such information will be held in confidence while the paper is under review and will not influence the editorial decision, but if the article is accepted for publication, the editors will usually discuss with the authors the manner in which such information is to be communicated to the reader.
The International Heart Journal expects that authors of reviews and editorials will not have any financial interest in a company (or its competitor) that makes a product discussed in the article. |
Units of Measurement: Authors should express all measurements in conventional units, with System International (SI) units given in parentheses throughout the text. Use SI units in accordance with the Uniform Requirements (see below).
References: References to literature cited should be numbered serially in the text and listed in the same order on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript. The style of references is that of Index Medicus or AMA. List all authors when there are six or fewer: when there are seven or more, list the first three then "et al." For further information, please consult "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals"(JAMA 1997; 277: 927-34).

Each table should be typed on a separate sheet and have a brief heading. Use footnotes for additional explanations.
The approximate position of figures and tables should be indicated in the margin of the manuscript.
