About the journal
The Journal of General Psychology publishes human and animal research reflecting various methodological approaches in all areas of experimental psychology. It covers traditional topics such as physiological and comparative psychology, sensation, perception, learning, and motivation, as well as more diverse topics such as cognition, memory, language, aging, and substance abuse, or mathematical, statistical, methodological, and other theoretical investigations. The journal especially features studies that establish functional relationships, involve a series of integrated experiments, or contribute to the development of new theoretical insights or practical applications.
Instructions to Authors
The following publications have issued special calls for papers. However, Heldref journals and magazines are always seeking quality manuscripts. Be sure to check each journal or magazine's individual Web page for complete manuscript submission information. ANQ, a peer-reviewed journal, welcomes contributions of factual articles and notes based on new research in the language and literature of the English-speaking world. Subjects in recent issues have ranged from The Canterbury Tales to "The Cask of Amontillado" to A Clockwork Orange. Please see our call for papers page for details.
The Clearing House, a peer-reviewed, bimonthly educational journal, is currently seeking articles on curriculum, teaching methods, administrative procedures, and school programs. Results of research, discussion of trends, and first-person accounts are invited; emphasis should be on the "how to" aspect of a practice or program. The audience for the journal comprises middle and secondary school teachers and administrators, as well as postsecondary education faculty members and their students. The Clearing House prefers articles that do not exceed 2,500 words. We also publish shorter pieces of 100 or 600 words. Please see contributor's guidelines for more information.
The Explicator, a quarterly journal, invites submission of short paper (less than 1,200 words) relevant to explication de texte in prose or poetry. Contributions should be directly related to interpretation of text. Documentation should adhere to the style of MLA Style Manual, 2nd edition. Genetic, Social, and General Psychology Monographs publishes articles of monograph length that make an outstanding contribution to the field of psychology. Articles deal with the biological as well as the behavioral and social aspects of psychology and often present a series of research studies, a new theory, or an in-depth criticism of an existing theory. Historical Methods, a quarterly peer-reviewed journal, reaches an international audience of historians and other social scientists concerned with historical problems. The journal welcomes contributions that explore interdisciplinary approaches to new data sources, new approaches to older questions and material, and practical discussions of computer and statistical methodology, data collection, and sampling procedures. Hospital Topics focuses on all aspects of healthcare delivery and management. Through articles on theory, applied research, and practice, Hospital Topics addresses the concerns of today's healthcare professional and manager. Past subjects include nursing compensation, information systems, hospitals and the World Wide Web, fatigue management, midwifery, job satisfaction among managers, team building, alternative medicine, and primary care in rural areas. The Journal on Alternative Schooling is a peer-reviewed publication intended for a national and international audience that includes administrators, educators, mental health workers, juvenile justice and corrections personnel, day and residential treatment personnel, staff-development specialists, teacher educators, and others dedicated to serving children and youths in alternative education programs. We invite authors to submit manuscripts that contain information that is practical and has direct applicability with regard to this diverse population. We accept for review manuscripts that contain critical and integrated literature reviews, objective program evaluations, evidence-based strategies and procedures, program descriptions, and policy-related content. As appropriate, manuscripts should contain enough detail that readers are able to put useful or innovative strategies or procedures into practice. The Journal of Genetic Psychology is devoted to research and theory in developmental psychology across the life span. Articles that concern educational, clinical, cross-cultural, and comparative issues related to development also are encouraged. Although the major focus of the journal is empirical research and the exposition and criticism of theory, applied and descriptive articles are occasionally published as well as brief reports, replications and refinements, and reviews of the literature. The Journal of Group Psychotherapy, Psychodrama, and Sociometry welcomes manuscripts on the theory and application of action methods in the fields of psychotherapy, counseling, social and personal skills development, education, management, and organizational development. The journal seeks manuscripts bridging research and practice appropriate to educational and clinical simulations, behavior rehearsal, skill training, and role-playing within group settings, with the focus on action interventions, psychodrama, and sociometry. The Journal of Social Psychology welcomes and publishes original empirical research in all areas of basic and applied social psychology. Preference will be given to manuscripts that report laboratory or field research in core areas of social and organizational psychology including—but not limited to—the self, attribution theory, attitudes, social influence, consumer behavior, decision making, groups and teams, stereotypes and discrimination, interpersonal attraction, prosocial behavior, aggression, organizational behavior, leadership, and cross-cultural studies. The journal will soon process its peer reviews completely electronically, expediting peer reviews and enabling authors to find the status of their manuscripts quickly and independently. ReVision: A Journal of Consciousness and Transformation is a peer-reviewed journal that emphasizes the transformative dimensions of current thought. ReVision facilitates the reconciliation and collaboration of historically conflicting world views and academic disciplines by providing a forum for dialogue between the fields of religion and spirituality, consciousness studies, psychology, philosophy, anthropology, sociology, ecology, science, and the arts. Often, articles in ReVision challenge the conventional wisdom that sets apart Western and Eastern, feminine and masculine, intellectual and spiritual, conservative and liberal, local and global, young and old. Science Activities, a quarterly, activity-based, science education journal, seeks articles that describe teacher-tested, hands-on projects and experiments, as well as innovative curriculum suggestions. Manuscripts should be written for the K-12 classroom educator, and the grade level of the activity should be indicated. We encourage authors to submit supplementary illustrative materials, for example, clear, digital photographs, slides, figures and tables, and artist-rendered drawings. Symposium, a quarterly journal in modern literatures, welcomes contributions pertinent to modern languages and literatures. Research on authors, themes, periods, genres, works, and theory, often through comparative studies, is regularly featured. Recent issues include essays on Yolanda Bedregal, Albert Camus, Assia Djebar, Carlos Fuentes, Franz Kafka, Gaston Leroux, and José Marmol.
