Copyright Transfer Agreement/Permissions: No article can be published unless accompanied by a signed copyright transfer agreement, which serves as a transfer of copyright from author to publisher. A copy of the agreement, executed and signed by the author, is now required with each manuscript submission. (If the article is a 搘ork made for hire,?the agreement must be signed by the employer.) A copyright transfer agreement (CTA) will be attached to the decision letter when a paper is accepted. You may also locate the CTA at http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/homepages/30728/nscta.pdf Only original papers will be accepted and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. It is the author抯 responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce material that has appeared in another publication.
Use of Animals: When animals are used in the research reported, the authors must state: "NIH guidelines (or for non-U.S. residents similar national regulations) for the care and use of laboratory animals (NIH Publication #85-23 Rev. 1985) have been observed." In studies involving human subjects, the authors must include; "all subjects enrolled in this research have responded to an Informed Consent which has been approved by my Institutional Committee on Human Research and that this protocol has been found acceptable by them." The dates of approval by the Committee and the ethical guidelines followed should be made a part of the Methods section.
Conflict of Interest. JBMR has adopted a policy that requires authors to make a statement concerning potential conflict of interest relating to their submitted articles. They must select one of the following applicable statements as indicated by superscript following the title of their manuscripts.
  1. The author, or one or more of the authors, has received or will receive remuneration orother prequisites for personal or professional use from a commercial or industrial agent in direct or indirect relationship to their authorship.
  2. The benefits accruing to the author or authors from a commercial or industrial party will be applied to a research fund, nonprofit institution or other organization with which the author(s) are associated.
  3. No benefit of any kind will be received either directly or indirectly by the author(s).
  4. The author(s) choose not to respond to any of the above listed statements.

Instructions for Manuscript Preparation

Manuscript: For optimal production, prepare manuscript text in size 12 font on 8-1/2 x 11 inch page, double-spaced, with at least 1-inch margins on all sides. Text files should be formatted as .doc or .rtf files. Refrain from complex formatting; the Publisher will style your manuscript according tot the Journal design specifications. Do not use desktop publishing software such as PageMaker or Quark Xpress or other software such as Latex. If you prepared your manuscript with one of these programs, export the text to a word processing format. Please make sure your word processing programs 揻ast save?feature is turned off. Please do not deliver files that contain hidden text: for example, do not use your word processor抯 automated features to create footnotes or reference lists.

Please be sure to submit your illustrations and tables as separate files; the system will automatically create a pdf file of your paper for the reviewers.

Title Page: The name(s) and affiliation of the author(s) should appear only on a separate title page. Please do not mark any other parts of the manuscript with name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s). Use only a short title on the following pages of the manuscript. Author(s) name(s) should not be used. The paper should be subdivided into the expected classical sections and, if necessary, subsections. Manuscripts including references (but not figures or tables) should be no longer than 18 pages.
Abstract: A short synopsis (200 words or less) is required for all papers. This should be a factual condensation of the entire work structured into four paragraphs titled, Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. The abstract should precede the main body of the paper.
Keywords: The author is requested to supply, below the abstract, a list of five keywords or phrases (not in the title) that adequately index the subject matter of the article.

References:
Wiley's Journal Styles Are Now in EndNote. EndNote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote's bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and then instantly output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style.
To download the reference style for this Journal or to purchase a copy of EndNote, go to the following URL: www.interscience.wiley.com/jendnotes. For technical support using EndNote, contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com,, or visit www.endnote.com/support .
All references should be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and should be as complete as possible. Sample references follow:

  1. King VM, Armstrong DM, Apps R, Trott JR. Numerical aspects of pontine, lateral reticular, and inferior olivary projections to two paravermal cortical zones of the cat cerebellum. J Comp Neurol 1998;390:537-551.
  2. Voet D, Voet JG. Biochemistry. New York: John Wiley & Sons; 1990. 1223 p.
  3. Gilmor ML, Rouse ST, Heilman CJ, Nash NR, Levey AI. Receptor fusion proteins and analysis. In: Ariano MA, editor. Receptor localization. New York: Wiley-Liss; 1998. p 75-90. Please note that journal title abbreviations should conform to the practices of Chemical Abstracts.
Figure Legends: Please supply complete captions for all figures. Captions are to appear on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Symbols and Equations: Authors are cautioned to type, wherever possible, all mathematical and chemical symbols, equations, and formulas and to identify in the margin all Greek or unusual symbols the first time they are used (e.g., k, K, , x, ). Underline all vector quantities with a wavy line. Use fractional exponents to avoid root signs. When mentioning a material, chemical reagent, instrument or other product, use the generic name only. If further identification (proprietary name, manufacturer's name and address) is required, list it as a footnote.

Tables: Please save Tables separately and supply numbers and titles for all. All table columns should have an explanatory heading. Tables should be submitted as doc or rtf files (it is preferred that tables are prepared using Word抯 table edit tool).

Illustrations: When preparing digital art, please consider:
Resolution: The minimum requirements for resolution are:
1200 DPI/PPI for black and white images, such as line drawings or graphs.
300 DPI/PPI for picture-only photographs
600 DPI/PPI for photographs containing pictures and line elements, i.e., text labels, thin lines, arrows.
These resolutions refer to the output size of the file; if you anticipate that your images will be enlarged or reduced, resolutions should be adjusted accordingly.
Formats:
For the editorial review process, GIF and JPEG files are acceptable; upon submission of a revision, TIFF or EPS files will be required. For the editorial review process, color images may be submitted in RGB color; upon revision, CMYK color will be required. Delivery of production-quality files early in the review process may facilitate smooth and rapid publication once a manuscript has been accepted.

Note that these file formats are not acceptable for printing: JPG, GIF, ONG, PCX, PNG, XBM, Word, and Excel. We recommend creating your graphics in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Freehand and importing them into your page applications as TIFFs with all fonts included. Do not scan figures as JPEGs and convert to TIFFs. For further guidance on preparing digital figure files, authors are encouraged to visit http://cjs.cadmus.com/da/applications.asp.

To ensure that your digital graphics are suitable for print purposes, please go to RapidInspector?at http://rapidinspector.cadmus.com/zwi/index.jsp . This free, stand-alone software application will help you to inspect and verify illustrations right on your computer.
A legend must be provided for each illustration and must define all abbreviations used therein. Legends should be placed at the end of the manuscript text file.

Color Illustrations: Color figures are generally printed in the Journal at the author抯 expense. The published will provide cost estimates prior to printing. A limited number of color figures that are of critical importance and that significantly enhance the presentation will be considered for publication at the publisher抯 expense subject to editorial recommendation. Final decision on publication of color figures will be at the discretion of the Editor. All color figures will be reproduced in full color in the online edition of the journal at no cost to authors. For best reproduction, bright, clear colors should be used. Dark colors against a dark background do not reproduce well; please place your color images against a white background wherever possible.

Author Alterations or Revisions. It is absolutely necessary to limit alterations to factual and typographical errors. Authors will be charged for revisions, and publication of their work will be delayed. In order to expedite the publication and online posting of articles in Wiley InterScience, JBMR sends page proofs (and paperwork, such as reprint order forms) in pdf format via e-mail to the corresponding author抯 e-mail address. Please follow the instructions in the e-mail; contact names and numbers are given for questions, problems, or if an author wishes to receive a paper proof.

Reprints: A reprint order form is sent with author's proofs. The form is to be returned, prepaid, with corrected proofs. Reprints are mailed approx. 6-8 weeks post publication. Society For Biomaterials members receive a 25% discount on offprint orders placed prior to publication of their Contributions.
