About the journal

The International Journal of Immunogenetics (formerly European Journal of Immunogenetics) publishes original contributions on the genetic control of components of the immune system and their interactions in both humans and experimental animals. The term "genetic" is taken in its broadest sense to include studies at the evolutionary, molecular, chromosomal functional and population levels in both health and disease. Examples are:

  • studies of blood groups and other surface antigens
  • cell interactions and immune response
  • receptors, antibodies, complement components and cytokines
  • polymorphism
  • evolution of the organisation, control and function of  immune system components
  • anthropology and disease associations
  • the genetics of immune-related disease: allergy, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency and other immune pathologies

All papers are seen by at least two independent referees and only papers of the highest quality are accepted.

Instructions to Authors

Manuscript submission

Submissions should be accompanied by a letter from the corresponding author explaining the suitability of the manuscript for publication in International Journal of Immunogenetics and a completed Exclusive Licence Form. Authors of all manuscripts are required to license copyright in their paper to Blackwell Publishing. Copyright licensing is a condition of publication and papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless copyright has been licensed.

OnlineOpen is a pay-to-publish service from Blackwell that offers authors whose papers are accepted for publication the opportunity to pay up-front for their manuscript to become open access (i.e. free for all to view and download) via the Blackwell Synergy website. Each OnlineOpen article will be subject to a one-off fee of ?250 (equivalent to $2500) to be met by or on behalf of the Author in advance of publication. Upon online publication, the article (both full-text and PDF versions) will be available to all for viewing and download free of charge. The print version of the article will also be branded as OnlineOpen and will draw attention to the fact that the paper can be downloaded for free via the Blackwell Synergy service. If you wish your paper to be OnlineOpen you are required to complete the combined payment and copyright licence form: Online Open Form.

International Journal of Immunogenetics is now accepting manuscripts electronically via the online submission site, Manuscript Central. Online submission ensures the quickest possible review and allows authors to track the progress of their article. To submit online please go to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijig. Complete instructions for submitting manuscripts online are provided on the submission site. Help is available online or by e-mailing support@scholarone.com  or Emma.Nobes@Oxon.blackwellpublishing.com

If online submission is not possible, please send a copy of each manuscript, with a disk, to the editorial office:

Do not duplicate your submission by submitting online and by post. Where possible, please use online submission.

Electronic Artwork

We would like to receive your artwork in electronic form. Please save vector graphics (e.g. line artwork) in Encapsulated Postscript Format (EPS), and bitmap files (e.g. half-tones) in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). Ideally, vector graphics that have been saved in metafile (WMF) or pict (PCT) format should be embedded within the body of the text file. Detailed information on our digital illustration standards is available on the BPL website at: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/authors/digill.asp

Avoid using tints if possible; if they are essential to the understanding of the figure, try to make them coarse.

In the full-text online edition of the journal, figure legends may be truncated in abbreviated links to the full screen version. Therefore, the first 100 characters of any legend should inform the reader of key aspects of the figure.

Colour Illustrations

It is the policy of International Journal of Immunogenetics  for authors to pay the full cost for the reproduction of their colour artwork.

Therefore, please note that if there is colour artwork in your manuscript when it is accepted for publication, Blackwell Publishing require you to complete and return a colour work agreement form before your paper can be published.

If you are unable to download the form, please contact the Editorial office at the aboce address and they will be happy to email or FAX a form to you.

Once completed, please return the form to Editorial office. Please note that any article received by Blackwell Publishing with colour work will not be published until a completed colour work agreement form has been received.

Page Proofs

The corresponding author will receive an e-mail alert containing a link to a web site. A working e-mail address must therefoe be provided for the corresponding author. Proofs can be downloaded as a PDF (portable document format) file from this site. Acrobat Reader will be required in order to read this file. This software can be downloaded (free of charge) from the following Web site:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

This will enable the file to be opened, read on screen, and printed out in order for any corrections to be added. Further instructions will be sent with the proof. Proofs will be posted if no e-mail address is available; in your absence, please arrange for a colleague to access your e-mail to retrieve the proofs.

Offprints

Authors will be provided with electronic offprints of their article. Paper offprints may be ordered at prices quoted on the order form, which accompanies proofs, provided that the form is returned to the address indicated on the form. Offprints are normally dispatched within 2 weeks of publication of the issue in which the paper appears. Please contact the publisher if offprints do not arrive: however, please note that offprints are sent by surface mail, so overseas orders may take up to 6 weeks to arrive. Electronic offprints are sent to the first author at his or her e-mail address on the title page of the paper, unless advised otherwise; therefore please ensure that the name, address and e-mail of the receiving author are clearly indicated on the manuscript title page if he or she is not the first author of the paper.

Review Articles and Commentaries

Authors planning to write articles for the International Journal of Immunogenetics are asked to contact the Editor first.

Ethical Policy

International Journal of Immunogenetics is a member of the UK Committee on Publication Ethics and subscribes to its recommendations (Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE): guidelines on good publication practice. BJU International (2000), 85, 2-7). When reporting research on human subjects, the work must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (1964) (British Medical Journal, 1964, ii, 177). Consequently, authors should indicate that ethical approval of the study was granted, and, where appropriate, that informed consent was given. Experiments using human tissue must be shown to comply with national and local ethical guidelines. Experiments using animal models must also be shown to comply with national guidelines and legislation.

The Editors reserve the right to reject a paper on ethical grounds.

Conflict of Interest

A
uthors are expected to disclose any commercial or other associations that might pose a conflict of interest in connection with the submitted article. All funding sources supporting the work, and institutional or corporate affiliations of the authors, should be acknowledged on the title page. Articles are considered for publication on the understanding that neither the article nor its essential substance has been or will be published elsewhere before appearing in International Journal Immunogenetics. Abstracts and press reports published in connection with scientific meetings are not considered as publications.

OnlineEarly

International Journal of Immunogenetics is covered by Blackwell Publishing's OnlineEarly service. OnlineEarly articles are complete full-text articles published online in advance of their publication in a printed issue. Articles are therefore available as soon as they are ready, rather than having to wait for the next scheduled print issue. OnlineEarly articles are complete and final.  They have been fully reviewed, revised and edited for publication, and authors' final corrections have been incorporated.  Because they are in final form, no changes can be made after online publication.  The nature of OnlineEarly articles mean that they do not yet have volume, issue or page numbers, so OnlineEarly articles cannot be cited in the traditional way.  They are therefore given a Digital Object Indentifier (DOI), which allows the article to be cited and tracked before it is allocated to an issue. After print publication, the DOI remains valid and can continued to be used to cite and access the article. More information about DOIs can be found at http://www.doi.org/faq.html

Author Services

NEW: Online production tracking is now available for articles through Blackwell抯 Author Services.

Author Services enables authors to track their article - once it has been accepted ?nbsp;through the production process to publication online and in print. Authors can check the status of their articles online and choose to receive automated e-mails at key stages of production so they do not need to contact the Production Editor to check on progress. Visit www.blackwellpublishing.com/bauthor for more details on online production tracking and for a wealth of resources including FAQs and tips on article preparation, submission and more.

Author material archive policy

Please note that unless specifically requested, Blackwell Publishing will dispose of all hardcopy or electronic material submitted two months after publication. If you require the return of any material submitted, please inform the editorial office or production editor as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.
