GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

download the file in .pdf format guidelines.pdf

1. Manuscripts should be submitted in Russian or in English. The maximum length of papers (text, references, and illustrations) is 32 pages.

2. Each manuscript (text, figures, and tables) should be submitted in triplicate.

3. Organization of paper. The paper should contain the following components:
a) Title.
b) The authors’ surnames and initials; the full names of the institutions in which the work was conducted, followed by the city and postal code.
c) The abstract should summarize the main conclusions; its minimum and maximum lengths are 200 and 400 words, respectively.
d) The introduction should outline the purpose of the study. Historical information is also appropriate here.
e) Description of the method of the study (if it is not standard) and factual data. The description should be divided into sections preceded by headings and subheadings.
f) Results and discussion.
g) Conclusions.
h) References.
i) Tables (on separate sheets).
j) Figure captions (on a separate sheet).

4. The first copy should be signed by the authors. The corresponding author (with whom the editor will correspond) should be indicated on a separated sheet, along with his/her address, telephone, and fax.

5. Requirements for text.

a) The text of the manuscript should be typed double-spaced, leaving a 4-cm left margin; use a standard typewriter or a computer font with point size 12. If the manuscript is typewritten, the journal must have the first copy.
b) In Russian text, foreign names (of both persons and places) are given in Russian transcription.
c) References cited should be listed in alphabetical order: first references in Russian, then those in English. References contain the following data: the names and initials of all authors, paper title, journal title, year of publication, volume number, issue number, and page numbers; for books: book title, publisher, city, year of publication, and the number of pages. If the work cited is a translation into Russian, the Russian title should be followed by the original title and authors' names in the original. When citing a work in text, its number in the list of references should be given in square brackets.
d) Greek letters and formulas should be written in black ink or with a computer. Remove any possible ambiguity about the upper and lower case: double underline indicates upper case, and double overline indicates lower case. Italic letters are underlined with a wavy line, and Greek letters are underlined with a red pencil.

6. Requirements to figures.

a) Drawings should be clearly outlined; they should be drawn in black ink or clearly printed with a blackand- white printer.
b) Photographs illustrating the text should be good quality and printed on glossy paper.
c) The paper should contain a schematic map showing the study area and the location of other figures.
d) All figures (maps, profiles, and sketches) should show the linear scale and orientation; maps should indicate the geographical coordinates. Seismic profiles should have a vertical scale in kilometers.
e) The author should take care to make the paper comprehensible not only to the experts on the study area: all tectonic structures, formations, and locations mentioned in the text should be shown in the figures. The latter should not be overloaded with irrelevant names.
f) The maximum size of a figure reproduced in the journal is 17 × 23 cm. It is possible to submit larger figures (up to 60 cm in diagonal size); in that case, they should allow for reduction to the aforementioned size.
g) The figure number, author’s name, and paper title should be indicated on the reverse side of each figure; if necessary, the top and bottom of the figure are shown. All symbols used in the figures should be explained in the captions.
(h) All figures must be referred to in the text. Indicate the position of figures and tables in the margin of the manuscript.

7. The manuscript should be supplemented by the following data typed on a separate sheet (submitted in one copy):

a) Explanation of abbreviations, both Russian and foreign.
b) The Latin transcription of the names of all authors; addresses of foreign coauthors; names of foreign geological structures (faults, terranes, massifs, etc.); foreign geographical names; and names of foreign researchers that are mentioned in the text but not included in the list of references.
c) The author’s preferred English translation of terms that have several English equivalents and of new terms.
d) The noun forms (in the nominative case) of Russian geographical names that are used as adjectives in the paper (e.g., Tundrovka (noun)—Tundrovskaya (adjective)).

8. The edited text will be sent to the authors for checking. The subsequent handling of the manuscript is controlled by the editors.

9. The authors will be furnished five reprints of the published paper.
