Instructions to Authors
SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
From now on, all manuscripts should be submitted electronically through Geosciences Journal electronic submission System, which can be accessed at http://www.geosciences-journal.org. With the submitted manuscript authors should provide the names, addresses, e-mail addresses and fax numbers of four suggested reviewers.
Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that if accepted it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the editorial committee.
TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS: Original research papers, discussion and reply papers, short reports, review papers, letters.
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
GENERAL: Manuscripts must be in double-spaced form with at least 2.5 cm wide margins. A font size of 12 pt is required. The corresponding author should be identified (include a Fax number and E-mail address). Full postal addresses must be given for all co-authors. Authors should consult a recent issue of the journal or the journal's website (http://www.geosciences-journal.org) for style if possible. The Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity.
PAPER LENGTH: Papers should be written in the most concise form. Occasionally long papers are accepted, particularly those of a review nature. Short reports, termed 'Letters', are encouraged.
ABSTRACTS: An abstract in English should be provided with all papers, including Letters.
KEYWORDS: The authors are kindly requested to supply up to five keywords that can be used for indexing/abstracting purposes.
TEXT: The standard order of a manuscript is: Title page, abstract, keywords, main text, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and figures. All the references, tables, and figures should be referred to in the text. Do not import the Figures or Tables into your text. All pages should be numbered consecutively, including pages with acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, and figure captions. Title page should contain the title of the manuscript, the name(s) of the author(s), their institutional address(es), fax number(s), e-mail address (es), and a short running title of not more than 40 characters. The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk and footnote. All other footnotes (except for table footnotes) should be identified with superscript Arabic numbers.
The second text page should have an abstract of not more than 300 words followed by up to five key words. The abstract must be intelligible without reference to the paper; it should be a condensation of the essential information in the paper, and not a recital of the subjects covered. The abstract should not contain references.
To improve the readability of papers, authors may use up to four levels of headings as illustrated below: 3. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION 3.1. Geochemical Data 3.1.1. Major element chemistry Granitoids: Composition of ...
REFERENCES: All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. please make sure that the references are accurate. Unpublished information, including papers in preparation or submitted but not yet accepted, should be omitted from the reference list. These can be cited in the text as J. Doe (unpublished manuscript) or B. Jones (personal communication).
In the text refer to the author's name (without initials) and year of publication (e.g. "Since Kim (1993) has shown that..." or "This is in the agreement with results obtained later (Kramer, 1994)"). For three or more authors use the first author followed by "et al.", in the text. The list of references should be arranged alphabetically by authors' names. Use lower-case letters to distinguish references that would have identical citations: for example, Smith (1993a), or Smith (1993a, 1993b), or (Smith 1993a, 1993b). The manuscript should be carefully checked to ensure that the spelling of authors' names and dates are exactly the same in the text as in the reference list.

When referring to papers with the same author, the sequence should be: first author only, chronological; two authors, chronological; and three or more authors, chronological. An example is given below: Chun, S.S., 1991 Chun, S.S., Jeong, K.S. and Honza, E., 1985 Chun, S.S., Hwang, I.G. and Choe, M.Y., 1990
The SI unit should be used wherever possible. The abbreviation system for minerals described in Kretz, R. (1983, American Mineralogist, 68, 277-279) is recommended for use.
Romanization of Korean geographic names is highly recommended to follow those suggested by Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Construction and Transportation, and Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs. It is available on the web-site (http://www.englishname.net/).
After manuscript being accepted for publication, authors are asked to provide the electronic file on diskettes, or CDs as well as printout.
Professor A.C. Turnock (University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada) is available as an English copyreader at reasonable cost, if it is needed.
ILLUSTRATIONS: Photographs, charts, and diagrams are all to be referred to as "Figure(s)" and should be numbered consecutively in the order to which they are referred. They should accompany the manuscript, but should not be included within the text. All illustrations should be clearly marked with Arabic numerls in order of reference in the text. Each figure must be provided with self-explanatory captions that are collectively placed on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript. Separate parts of a single figure should be labelled (a), (b), (c) etc., and referred to as (a), (b), (c) etc., in the text and captions.
Important: In the PDF file, all figures and tables must be numbered and collected at the END of the manuscript. In addition, please indicate clearly in the text where each figure/table should be positioned!
Line drawings: All lettering, graph lines, and points on graphs should be sufficiently large and bold to permit reproduction when the diagram has been reduced to a size suitable for inclusion in the journal. After reduction, letters or numbers on a figure should be greater than 1.5 mm, and lines thicker than 0.1 mm. Dye-line prints or photocopies are not suitable for reproduction. Do not use any type of shading on computer-generated illustrations. All maps should include a metric bar scale. Regional maps must include latitudes and longitudes where appropriate.
Photographs: Original photographs must be supplied as they are to be reproduced (e.g., black and white or color). If necessary, a scale should be marked on the photograph. Please note that photocopies of photographs are not acceptable. Color: Color illustrations will be accepted; however, the authors will be expected to make a contribution towards the extra printing cost about 200,000 won ($200) to 250,000 won ($250) for the each page. If, together with your accepted article, you submit usable color figures then Geosciences Journal will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in color on the web regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For color reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding the costs from Geosciences Journal after receipt of your accepted article. Because of technical complications which can arise by converting color figures to 'grey scale' (for the printed version should you not opt for color in print) please submit in addition usable black and white prints corresponding to all the color illustrations if requested.
TABLES: Tables should be prepared on a separate sheet and numbered consecutively. The table titles should be brief and typed with sentence-style capitalization directly at the top of their respective tables, followed by a double rule. The column headings (with appropriate units in parentheses) are followed by a single rule. Another rule should be placed at the end of the table, and followed by footnotes if necessary. No vertical and horizontal lines, and vertical rules should be used in tables. Tables must be double spaced. Long tables and other types of data containing information of limited interest will not normally be published. Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters. Footnotes end with periods. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript, (e.g., in graphs). The current issue of the journal will provide examples of approaches to complex tables.
PROOFS: By default PDF-proofs will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author (first named author if no corresponding author is identified of multi-authored papers) and should be returned within 5 days of receipt, unless a preference for paper proofs is expressed. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors; any others may be charged to the author. Any queries should be answered in full. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections cannot be guaranteed. Paper proofs are to be returned to the The Korean Association of Geoscience Societies, c/o The Korea and Science Technology Center, 635-4 Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu. Seoul 135-703, Korea. Geosciences Journal will do everything possible to get your article corrected and published as quickly and accurately as possible. Therefore, it is important to ensure that all of your corrections are sent back to us in one communication, by the corresponding author. Subsequent corrections will not be possible, so please ensure your first sending is complete.
OFFPRINTS: Fifty offprints will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints and copies of the issue can be ordered at a specially reduced rate using the order form sent to the corresponding author after the manuscript has been accepted.
COPYRIGHT: All authors must sign the transfer of copyright agreement form before the article can be published. This transfer agreement enables The Korean Association of Geoscience Societies to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, without the author relinquishing his/her proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microfilm or any other reproductions of a similar nature, and translations.
