Authors may also submit their manuscripts electronically via e-mail to the Editorial Office: znaturforsch.redaktion@t-online.de. In this case please provide a directly printable version of the contribution (e.g. postscript or PDF file) to be forwarded for refereeing.

Final Version

After acceptance of the paper, the Editorial Office will ask for electronic files of text and figures of the corrected final version. These files have to be sent even if the article had been previously submitted electronically.

Manuscript Preparation

The material should be placed in the following order:

Running title (maximal 60 characters) - Title (German and English if the paper is written in German) - Authors' names (e.g. Jan Baier, Tom F. Miller, and John F. Kelly) - Authors' address (or addresses if differing. In this case the name and the address of each author should be linked by superscripts a, b, c....) - Address for reprint requests (name with academic title, fax number and e-mail address) - Dedication (if intended) - Abstract - Key words (up to five) - Main text (typically: Results and Discussion - Conclusion - Experimental Section) - Acknowledgement (if wished) - List of references - Footnotes - Tables with captions - List of all figure legends - Figures and schemes
Tables, equations, figures, and schemes are to be mentioned in the text in numerical order.
Abstract:
The abstract should be short, precise, and must be suitable for direct use by the abstracting journals (i.e. in particular without abbreviations and references related to the main text).
Main Text:
The main text should meet the highest standard as to novelty of the material, organization, and conciseness. The text should be correct in grammar and style.
Presentation of Experimental Data/Crystallographic Data
References and Footnotes:
References should be numbered and listed corresponding to the following examples:
Journals: [1] A. Meyer, E. Schmid, Z. Naturforsch. 56 b, 503 (2001).
Books: Without editor: [2] M. Bodansky, Principles of Peptide Synthesis, p. 16-20, Springer, Berlin (1984). With editor: [3] H. M黮ler, in H. Wood, F. Belger (eds): Inorganic Experiments, Section 4.8, Vol. 7, p. 321, VCH, Weinheim (1994).
Illustrations:
Illustrations should, if possible, be designed for reduction to a one-column format (7.6 cm wide). They should be produced with a good quality laser printer and have lines, letters, numbers and symbols of uniform strength and contrast. Each figure has to be submitted on a separate sheet with the figure's number and the first author's name written in pencil on the back.
Scaling of Artwork:
For optimum reproduction, the illustrations should be larger than the desired final size. Authors should pay attention to the strength of lines, for some features (e.g. dotted and thin lines) may disappear after reduction. The other extreme, such as heavy lettering and thick lines, should be avoided. The final letter height is 1.5 - 2 mm.
Color Figures:
Additional cost for the reproduction of color figures in the print version must be paid by the authors. Details will be provided after acceptance of the manuscript. The publication of colored illustrations in the electronic version of the article is free of charge.
Proofs:
The authors will receive page proofs. Please note that corrections should be restricted to typographical errors. Cost for extensive additional changes will be charged to the author.
Reprint Orders:
Please return the reprint order together with the corrected proofs. 25 reprints are free of charge, for additional reprints EUR 0.14 per page will be charged.
Technical Instructions for Manuscripts and Illustrations in Electronic Forn
Text:
  • Preferred text formats: LaTeX, RTF/WORD
  • Layout guidelines
    • Use a normal, plain font (e.g. Times Roman) for text.
    • Type using double line spacing.
    • Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
    • Do not use field functions, especially not to create the list of references.
    • For indents use hard returns or tabstops (but not space bars).
    • In Word for Windows, use the table function to make tables.
    • Use the equation editor of your word processing program or MathType for equations. Submit equations created with MathType as separate files converted in LaTeX.
    • Place any figure legends or tables at the end of the manuscript.
    • Submit all figures as separate files and do not integrate them within the text.

Illustrations:

  • Preferred figure formats: EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing program and TIFF for halftone illustrations.
  • The file name (one file for each figure) should include the figure number. Figure legends should be included in the text and not in the figure file.
  • Scan resolution: Scanned line drawings should be digitized with a minimum resolution of 600 dpi relative to the final size, halftones with 300 dpi/final size.
  • Color illustrations: Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bites per channel) in TIFF format (resolution 150 dpi/final size).
  • Vector graphics: Fonts used in the vector graphics must be included. Please do not use drawing programs integrated in word processing programs. Do not draw with hairlines (minimum line width: 0,2 mm/final size). Avoid havy lettering and thick lines. Lines, letters, numbers and symbols should have uniform strength and contrast.
