Instructions to Authors
The author(s)guarantee(s)that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright owners, that the rights of third parties will not be violated, and that the publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Authors wishing to include figures or text passages that have already been published else-
where are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s)and to include evidence
that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers.Any material received
without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
Submissions are processed automatically with a web-based management system.Authors are
requested to first sign in at http://cgswww.unige.ch/tvcsubmissions/.
Guidelines for registering their submission(s)and for uploading their electronic manuscripts are available online.Manuscripts must be submitted only in Acrobat/PDF form.
Additional material (pictures, movies, etc.) should be packed inside a single zip archive
file. The signed ‘‘Copyright Transfer Statement ’’(see next page)should be sent sepa-
rately by fax or post to the journal Editorial Headquarter.
3 Manuscript preparation
General remarks
To help you prepare your manuscript,Springer offers the macropackage LaTeX2e document
class svjour.global.Springer also offers a Word template. For details see point 4.
All manuscripts are subject to copy editing.
Title page
--A concise and informative title
--Thename(s)oftheauthor(s)
--The affiliation(s)and address(es)of the author(s)
--The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the communicating author
Authors biographies.Authors should supply a brief biographical summary of between 50 and
100 words and a black and white glossy photograph, passport sized.
Abstract. Each paper must be preceded by an abstract presenting the most important results
and conclusions in no more than 100 words.
Keywords.3 to 5 keywords should be supplied after the Abstract for indexing purposes.
Abbreviations should be defined at first mention in the abstract and again in the main body
of the text and used consistently thereafter.
Footnotes.Essential footnotes to the text should be numbered consecutively and placed at the bottom of the page to which they refer.
References
The list of References should only include works that are cited in the text and that have
been published or accepted for publication.
Personal communications should only be mentioned in the text.
Citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets ,and the list of references at the end of the paper should be both alphabetized under the first author ’s name and numbered .References by the same author or team of authors should be listed in chronological order. Here are a few examples for the style of references:
Journal articles:
1.Sannies G,Balcisoy S,Magnenat-Thalmann N,Thalmann D (1999)VHD:A system for
directing real-time virtual actors.The Visual Computer 15(7/8):320-329
Books:
2.Volino P,Magnenat-Thalmann N (2001)Virtual clothing --theory and practice.Springer,
New York
Multiauthor books:
3.Andries M,Engels G,Rekers J (1998)How to represent a visual specification.In:Marriott K,
Meyer B (eds)Visual language theory.Springer New York,pp 245-259
If available the Digital Object Identifier (DOI)of the cited literature should be added at
the end of the reference in question.Example for printed publication:
Nasri AH,Sabin MA (2002)Taxonomy of interpolation constraints on recursive sub-
division curves.The Visual Computer 18(4): 259-272.DOI 10.1007/s003710100154
Illustrations and Tables
All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout.Figure parts should be identified by lower-case roman letters. The placement of figures and tables should be indicated in the left margin. For submission of figures in electronic form see Sect.4.
Figure legends must be brief,self-sufficient explanations of the figures. The legends should
be placed at the end of the text.
Tables should have a title and a legend explaining any abbreviation used in that table.
Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for
significance values and other statistical data).
4 Electronic submission of final version
Please send only the final version of the article,as accepted by the editors.
Text The preferred format is LaTeX .The electronic version should include the original source (including all style files and figures)and a pdf version containing all figures and tables.
Authors who prepare their papers with LaTeX are encouraged to use Springer-Verlag ’s
macro package svjour.global,available under http://www.springer.de/author/index.html.
Word:Thetemplateisavailable:
via ftp:
1.Address:ftp.springer.de/
2.User ID:ftp
3.Password:your own e-mail address
4.Directory:/pub/word/journals
5.File names:sv-journ.zip or sv-journ.doc and sv-journ.dot
Via browser:
ftp://ftp.springer.de/pub/word/journals
The zip file should be sent unencoded.
Layout guidelines:
1.Use a normal,plain font (e.g.,Times Roman) for text.Other style options:
--for textual emphasis use italic types.
--for special purposes, such as for mathematical vectors, use boldface type.
2.Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
3.Do not use field functions.
4.Forindentsusetabstopsorothercommands,not the space bar.
5.Use the table functions of your word processing program, not spreadsheets,to make tables.
6.Use the equations editor of your word processing program or MathType for equations.
7.Place any figure legends or tables at the end of the manuscript.
8.Submit all figures as separate files (EPS,TIFF)and do not integrate them within the text.
Data formats:
Safe your file in two different formats:
1.RTF or Word
2.pdf (a single pdf file including text, tables and figures)
Illustrations
The preferred figure formats are EPS for vector graphics exported from a drawing
program and TIFF for halftone illustrations.
EPS files must always contain a preview of the figure in TIFF.The file name (one file for each
figure)should include the figure number.Figure legends should be included in the text and
not in the figure file.
Scan resolution:Scanned line drawings should be digitized with a minimum resolution
of 800 dpi relative to the final figure size. For digital halftones,300 dpi is usually sufficient.
Color illustrations:Store color illustrations as RGB (8 bits per channel)in TIFF format.
Vector graphics:Fonts used in the vector graphics must be included. Please do not draw
with hairlines. The minimum line width is 0.2 mm (i.e.,0.567 pt)relative to the final size.
5 Electronic supplementary material
Electronic supplementary material (ESM)for an article printed in this journal will be published
free of charge to subscribers on Springer ’s server http://link.springer.de.After acceptance by the
journal ’s Editors the data will be supplied as received from the author.
In the printed article, full reference will be given to the ESM and vice versa.
ESM may consist of:
--Original data that relate to the paper,e.g. tables, additional illustrations (color and
black/white),etc.
--Information that is more convenient in electronic form.
--Information that cannot be printed: animations, video clips, sound recordings.
6 Proofreading
LaTeX files are slightly modified during the TeX-editing process so that the general presentation
rules of the journal are adhered to.Word files have to be converted and should be proofread
carefully by the author.Corrections should be clear;standard correction marks should be used.
Corrections that lead to a change in the page layout should be avoided. The author is entitled
to formal corrections only.Substantial changes in content,e.g.new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the responsible editor. In such a case please contact the Editorial Office or the Editor-in-Chief before returning the proofs to the publisher.
After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which
will be hyperlinked to the article.
7 Offprints,Free copy
50 offprints of each contribution are supplied free of charge. If you wish to order additional offprints you must return the order form with the corrected proofs. You are then entitled to receive a pdf file of your article for your own personal use
