About the journal

 

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasoundis published bimonthly by the American College of Veterinary Radiology. Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasoundreserves the right to reject any materials submitted for publication, including advertisements. No responsibility is accepted by the Editor or Associate Editors for the opinions expressed by the contributors. The right is reserved to introduce any changes necessary to make manuscripts conform to the editorial standards of Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound. Manuscripts and correspondence relating to publication of papers should be addressed to the Editor, D. E. Thrall, D.V.M. Instructions to Authors

 

Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasoundadheres to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. Authors are required to consult this document prior to submission. Articles not adhering to principles outlined in this document may be returned to the author for correction prior to being reviewed.

The following instructions are specific for Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound,and supercede those in the Uniform Requirements Document.

Anatomic terminology should conform to the Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria, 4th edition, prepared by the International Committee on Veterinary Gross Anatomical Nomenclature, Gent, 1992.

Acknowledge only persons who have made substantive contributions to the study. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission from everyone acknowledged by namebecause readers may infer their endorsement of the data and conclusions.

Illustrations. There is no limit to the number of illustrations allowed in each article, but an additional charge will be rendered if the number of illustrations exceeds 10. Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound will accept color illustrations. Color illustrations may be published in color in the journal if the author pays associated costs. Alternatively, color illustrations may be published in the journal in conventional black and white format with a color version being archived indefinitely on the ACVR Web site. The Web address for the image will be provided in the legend of the printed illustration. If the author chooses to submit digital images for archiving, there will be an additional fee (see Charges Section below) and a digital version of the color illustration must be submitted in high quality "jpeg" format to the Editor with the final draft of the manuscript. The longest dimension of the digital color illustration should be approximately 500 pixels. The editorial staff will not be responsible for converting images to the correct digital format.

 Nomenclature and Orientation of Images

Radiographic projections should be named according to the direction in which the central ray penetrates the part of interest, from point-of-entrance to point-of-exit. Published guidelines should be used for orientation of radiographic1 and sonographic2 images. For CT and MR images, the following guidelines should be used for image orientation.

Head and Spine:

·   sagittal plane: cranial (rostral) to left, dorsal at top

·   transverse plane: dorsal at top, left to reader's right

·   dorsal plane: cranial (rostral) at top, left to readers right

Thorax and abdomen: Display images as they were acquired

 Submission of Manuscripts

Mail three copies of the manuscript and two complete sets of figures. The author(s) should retain a copy of the manuscript and figures for reference. Manuscripts should be accompanied by a letter from the author indicating who will be responsible for correspondence regarding the manuscript. The covering letter should contain a statement that the manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors. The following statement should also be included in the letter: "In consideration of Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound taking action in reviewing and editing my (our) submissions, the author(s) undersigned hereby transfers, assigns or otherwise conveys all copyright ownership to the American College of Veterinary Radiology in the event that such work is published in Veterinary Radiology & Ultrasound." Authors are encouraged to submit the name of one or two individuals to whom the manuscript should be sent for review.

 Charges

Authors will be assessed a page charge of $40 per printed page. Page charges include reproducing up to 10 illustrations per article. The word "illustrations" refers to individual photographs. If the number of illustrations in an article exceeds 10, an additional charge of $11.00 per illustration will be rendered for the eleventh and subsequent illustrations. If authors submit digital versions of color illustrations for archiving on the ACVR Web site, there will be a charge of $25.00 for the first digital image, with a fee of $10 for each subsequent digital image. Fees for digital images are over and above the fee for printed illustrations. All illustration fees are over and above the $40 page charge. In consideration of charges rendered, 100 complementary offprints of printed papers will be provided to authors.

 Review Papers

The journal is interested in receiving high quality review papers for publication. These may deal with any aspect of imaging or radiation oncology. Articles of interest to practicing veterinarians are particularly desirable. Papers will be reviewed by the Editor and one of the Associate Editors. Those deemed worthy of publication will appear promptly. Page charges will be waived for review papers, and the author will receive an honorarium of $100.00. Authors should clearly indicate in the letter of submission that the paper is to be considered as a review paper.

 Radiology Corner & Ultrasound Corner

The "Corners" are intended to be a continuing education aid in the fields of diagnostic radiology and ultrasound, respectively. Brief tips on many aspects of imaging will be published on a regular basis. Submissions are welcome. Practitioner submissions are particularly welcome. Submissions should be brief (1000 words or less), with no more than four illustrations. Page charges will be waived. Material published in this feature is not subjected to peer review
