***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

Submission of manuscripts
Manuscripts should be submitted to the editorial office. The original and one copy are required. Submission of a manuscript is held to imply that the paper has not been published elsewhere and that, if accepted, it will not be republished in the same or similar form without the Editor's written consent.

Electronic Manuscripts
The editors encourage submissions on diskette to facilitate rapid accessibility of your work to the readers. The electronic files and the printout must be identical. Cost of changes to the electronic manuscript may be charged to the author(s). The diskette should be labelled with your name and the name of the computer platform and version of the word processing system you have used. Please observe that we can receive files from any word processing system; however, styled Microsoft Word files are preferred. Halftones and colour photos should be included separately.

Please use these simple guidelines when preparing your electronic manuscript:

1.       Please be consistent. The same elements should be keyed in exactly the same way throughout the manuscript.

2.       Do not break words at the end of lines. Use a hyphen only to hyphenate compound words.

3.       Enter only one space after the full-stop at the end of a sentence.

4.       When emphasising words, please use the italic feature of your word processor software.

5.       Do not justify your text; use a ragged right-hand margin.

6.       Use a double hyphen (--) to indicate a dash in text.

7.       Do not use the lowercase l for 1 (one) or the uppercase O for 0 (zero).

8.       The space bar should only be used as a word separator. Use TAB when indenting paragraphs or separating columns in tables.

9.       Please keep graphic elements (e.g. images) as separate files (e.g. EPS- or TIFF-files). Originals of good quality can also be submitted as usual.

Please print out the submittal form, fill it out and send it together with your diskette and printed copies to the editorial office:

Language
Papers will be published in English only. The name of the translator or language revisor must be appended, but will not be published. Take care over orthography and punctuation. The rules for word division are not the same in English as in Swedish. Consult a good English dictionary. Once accepted for publication, manuscripts may not be altered.

Arrangement
Manuscripts must be typed in a form suitable for photo-offset reproduction. Paper size should be 210 x 297 mm (A4), with a type area of exactly 170 x 260 mm. Fill the entire page, leaving no waste space.

On page 1, the head space (corresponding to 67 x 170 mm of the type area) should contain the main title, author's name(s), name of department and institution. This heading, together with running headlines (ca. 40 characters) and consecutive page numbers, will be printed by Almqvist & Wiksell.

N B. Full postal address for requests for offprints should be placed after References.

The main title should contain the words necessary for correct indexing. All titles should be as brief as clarity permits.

The main text opens with an Abstract (not exceeding 200 words) which should contain a review describing, for example, size of material, method, new discoveries, and important conclusions.

Use 1 1/2 line spacing, except for: footnotes, figure captions, tables, acknowledgements and references, which should alI be single spaced. Allow a triple space before and after the various sections, illustrations, and tables. Number each manuscript page in sequence with a blue pencil, in top right hand corner. Care should be taken to ensure a clean, clear impression. Avoid erasures, smudges, pencil or ink corrections and creases.

The major headings -- ABSTRACT, INTRODUCTION, METHODS , MATERIAL, RESULTS, DISCUSSION, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, REFERENCES -- should be in capital letters, centred on the line. Illustrations and tables mentioned in the text should be referred to as Fig. 2, Table 4, etc.

Quantities, units and their symbols must be expressed in accordance with SI (Le Systeme International d'Unit閟) (see Nordic Biomedical Manuscripts, Instructions & Guidelines. Universitetsforlaget, Oslo 1978).

Illustrations
The author should place line drawings (usually not exceeding 80 x 130 mm) in the desired position within the overall type area, whereas positioning of half-tone illustrations should be indicated by blank spaces (with Fig. indication). The plates will be mounted later by the printer. Please note that lettering and symbols must be large enough to retain clarity after a 20% reduction in size (final size 2 mm). On photomicrographs, the magnification may be indicated by a superimposed scale.

Figure captions, starting with the abbreviation Fig. and relevant numeral, can be placed either beside or beneath the illustration, in the latter case beginning at the left margin.

One extra copy of each illustration (line drawing or photograph) must be supplied, numbered and labelled with author's name and title of paper.

Tables
Tables should be integrated with the text, though in such a way as to be clearly delimited. Number them consecutively with arabic numerals and a brief but descriptive heading, located above the table. Footnotes to tables should appear beneath the relevant table.

Pharmaceutical preparations
Pharmaceutical preparations should always be referred to in the text by their generic names, with trade name and manufacturer's name in parentheses.

References
References should be numbered in alphabetical order (abbreviations: Index Medicus). Thus:

1.       Alden, R. H.: The utero-tubal junction in the albino rat. Anat Rec 85: 29-291, 1943.

2.       Dickinson, R. L. & Gamble, C. J.: Human Sterilization. Techniques of Permanent Conception Control. Williams & Wilkins, Baltimore, 1950.

3.       Nilsson, O. & Reinius, S.: Light and electron microscopic structure of the oviduct. In: Mammalian Oviduct (ed. E. S. E. Hafez & R. J. Blandau), pp. 57-83. Univ. Chicago Press, Chicago, 1969.

Literature references in main text should be indicated by figures within parentheses: . . . the incidence is similar to that in other reports (1, 5, 11, 17). Davies et al. (6) have reported . . .

General
Authors are requested in the interest of all concerned to restrict the length of papers as much as possible. Should a paper exceed 12 printed pages (including 3 pages of tables and/or figures) the cost of the excess pages will be debited to the author. An article longer than 20 pages can be published as a supplement -- at the author's expense. Illustrations can be printed in colour, if so requested, but at the author's expense.

Final typing and reprints
After editorial revision, the accepted manuscript will be sent to the principal author for final typing on printed forms supplied by the Editor and should be returned to him without delay. Offprints of published articles should be ordered simultaneously.
