About the journal
The Journal publishes articles in French or English, focused on work activity and covering
Ergonomics Ergonomic Physiology and Psychology Human-Human and Human-Machine Cooperation Work and Organizational Psychosociology Training Safety and Human Reliability Psychopathology of Work Methodology
The Journal also publishes methodological contributions and studies in the basic disciplines (Psychology, Physiology, etc.), dealing specifically with issues in the study of work activity.
READERSHIP The Journal is addressed to researchers, teachers, students, and practitioners in the disciplines mentioned above, and allied fields in Ergonomics, especially Engineering Sciences. Le Travail Humain is a multi-disciplinary Journal. Specialist jargon limiting readership to the author's field should be avoided. The Journal aims at dissemination of findings to other disciplines, and encourages cross-disciplinary debate and exchange. Le Travail Humain is listed in Current Contents/ Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Social Sciences Citation Index.
Instructions to Authors
1) Theories and Methodologies.
Articles in this category present original theoretical frameworks or methods related to these frameworks, which shed light on research findings and/or work practices in a domain. The actual contribution of the article to its area should be made explicit. If the framework or method has been developed from empirical research, empirical data can be used to illustrate the relevance and the practicability of implementation. Articles may devote space to new directions, if relevance is substantiated; i.e., articles should show the implications of interpretation of empirical data in the author's field or other domains. The domain of applicability of the theoretical framework or the method should be made explicit, in particular to work task analysis.
2) Reviews
Bottom-up presentations relying heavily on citations are to be avoided. The text should assess the perspectives, and show how they are related. Articles with an extremely narrow focus are unsuitable. When the topic covers several disciplines, a multi-disciplinary review is essential. All reviews must be exhaustive and up-to-date, and justify their originality as compared to the previous reviews on the same topic.
3) Empirical Studies
Research papers are detailed presentations of analyses of data collected in a theoretical and methodological perspective which is briefly, but explicitly, described. Papers presenting experimental results should discuss the ecological validity of the data. Field studies will be judged for quality of the methodology and the general value of the results, beyond the specific situations studied.
4) Practice and Experience
Innovations describing improvements in work conditions are welcomed. If feasible, empirical assessment of innovations should be presented. The contribution of these innovations in relation to existing systems should be specified. Manuscripts should delineate questions calling for future research. If the innovations are applications of research results, frameworks which have guided the implementation should be presented, as well as the necessary adaptations and modifications, requiring further research.
5) Techniques
Articles may center on techniques applicable to work task analysis (e.g., data collection tools), or the design of work situations (e.g., interfaces, expert systems, etc.). The relevance of the techniques needs to be justified, either by research results concerning work, or empirical validation.
6) Tutorials
Articles present teaching documents in the fields covered by the Journal
