About the journal

.

Cover

Tissue Antigens publishes full-length original articles, brief communications, commentaries and reviews covering all aspects of genetic control of immunity. The scope includes functional, biochemical, and genetic studies on molecules of the immune system, including cell surface receptors and their ligands, and encompassing cytokines, and chemokines, adhesion and co-stimulating molecules, antigen receptors such as TcR, NKR, CD1, PAMPs, Igs, and genes and products of the major histocompatibility complex including classical and non-classical HLA molecules. Papers should describe original research in vitro, or in animal models, or be clinical studies reflecting genetics of immunity in solid organ or bone marrow transplantation, autoimmunity, infectious immunity, allergy, tumour immunity, vaccine science, pregnancy and disease susceptibility. The journal emphasis is on understanding genetic control of immunity through:

 · Immunogenomics including gene organisation, phylogeny, evolution, regulation, polymorphism particularly where it affects expression and function, population genetics, gene markers (eg.microsatellites and SNPs) and typing applications or methodology.
· Protein or antigen expression and biochemistry of immunologically important molecules including post-translational regulation, cell surface expression, isoforms, serology, tissue expression, cell lineage relationships particularly defined by leucocyte differentiation antigens, cell activation and differentiation markers, myeloid and lymphoid cell surface antigens, platelet antigens, thymic markers and non-lineage cell surface molecules.
· Structure and function of molecules that control immune responses including cell surface molecules and their ligands, adhesion molecules, cytokines, chemokines, antigen receptors such as TcR, immunoglobulins, NKR, Toll-like receptors, HLA, CD1, MICA/B, PAMPs, Complement and other immune effector molecules. Modulation of immune responses by pathogens such as decoy receptors, cytokine analogs and inhibitors of apoptosis or other cellular functions
· Immunogenetic tools including new genes, sequences, mAbs, polymorphism databases particularly HLA alleles, population data, HLA-peptide repertoires in health and disease, definition of minor histocompatibility antigens, allelic variants, gene maps and bioinformatics. Instructions to Authors

Full-length articles should not exceed 10 printed pages. The author must pay for additional pages at GBP 75 per page.

Full-length papers should consist of: title page, including full title and short title (short title not to exceed 45 letters and spaces; abstract not to exceed 250 words); Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements (including grant and/or other sources of support), References, tables, figure legends and figures. All pages should be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page.

Key words. Four to nine key words for indexing should be given by the author(s) together with the abstract. They should be placed in alphabetical order and, when possible, adjusted to the medical subject headings of Index Medicus.

Tables. The tables should be typed, double-spaced, on sheets separate from the text, and titles must be self-explanatory. They should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, and due regard should be paid to the proportions of the printed page. The approximate location in the text should be indicated by a circled note in the margin.

Figures. Figures should be supplied as unmounted, glossy photographs and should be numbered in sequence with Arabic numerals. Each figure should be identified with the figure number on the back and the orientation indicated. In the text, its approximate location should be indicated by a circled note in the margin.

Printed illustrations must not exceed the journal page dimensions of 21 x 28 cm unless arrangement is made with the editor. Micrographs should be planned so that they can be produced without reduction. Single-column figures must not exceed 8.1 x 23.4 cm, but lettering should be large enough to be legible if reduction for printing is necessary to meet the above specifications. Captions to figures (legends) should be typed consecutively on a separate page or pages at the end of the paper. It is the policy of Tissue Antigens for authors to pay the full cost for the reproduction of their colour artwork.  Therefore, please note that if there is colour artwork in your manuscript when it is accepted for publication, Blackwell Publishing require you to complete and return a colour work agreement form before your paper can be published.  This form can be downloaded as a PDF from the Internet.  The web address for the form is: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/Sub3000_X_CoW.pdf  If you are unable to access the internet, or are unable to download the form, please contact Eva Strinovich at: tissueantigens@bigpond.com and she will be able to e-mail or FAX a from to you.  Once completed, please return the form to the Production Editor at the address below:

References. Number references consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify references in text, tables and legends by Arabic numerals (in parentheses). All authors cited, and only these, must be listed at the end of the paper. List all authors when six or less; when seven or more, list only first three and add "et al". The titles of journals should be abbreviated according to the List of journals indexed, printed annually in the January issue of Index Medicus.

Examples:

1. Brock JH, Esparza I. Failure of reticulocytes to take up iron from lactoferrin saturated by various methods Br J Haematol 1979: 42: 481-3.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The preferred method of submitting manuscripts is by email attachment of a PDF file. This should contain the manuscript, including all illustrations and tables and be sent to TissueAntigens@bigpond.com If there are difficulties in saving the file in PDF format, the manuscript can be attached as text in Word or Wordperfect, and accompanying illustrations, figures, and tables as TIFF or EPS files. In order to secure proper color separation all color files must be in CMYK (cyan, magenta yellow, black) mode.

If email submission is not possible, send one original and three copies (4 copies in total) of the manuscript, including four (4) sets of figures and tables, to the Editor-in-Chief. Please enclose an electronic version of the manuscript and illustrations, in the formats outlined above, on a newly formatted 3.5-inch floppy diskette, zip disk, or on a CD-rom.

The following information must be written on the disk labels:

·         Journal title

·         Author name

·         Manuscript title

·         Computer system (Windows, Mac)

·         Word processor (Word, WordPerfect) and version

The electronic version and the paper manuscript must be identical. If print and paper versions differ, the print version will be used. Retain a copy of the manuscript; manuscripts are not insured against loss or damage. No manuscripts or disks will be returned. If specifically requested to do so at the time of submission, the Editorial Office will attempt to return figures. Otherwise, none will be returned.

Journal cover figures. Tissue Antigens considers cover illustrations relevant to an article in an issue. Submissions must be both scientifically and visually interesting. Illustrations will not be necessarily reprinted in the article, but they must be connected to the content. Submit by post two copies (2) as glossy prints 12cm wide by 9cm high, with the top indicated, and include a brief caption. Label them with the first author's name and corresponding postal and email addresses, and telephone and fax numbers. These glossy prints will not be returned unless requested.
