About the journal

 Cover

 

    Tissue and Cell is devoted to original research in the organization of cells, their components and extracellular products at all levels. Emphasis is placed on biological aspects of cell structure, function and behavior, and primarily morphological accounts include substantial new information of general interest. Timely review articles on topics of particular interest, and accounts of new techniques and applications that deal with aspects of cell structure and function are invited.

 

 


Instructions to Authors

 

     Tissue & Cell publishes work that is original, has not been published elsewhere and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. The covering letter to the Editor should contain this statement.

Three copies of each manuscript (original manuscript plus two extra copies for review) and three sets of illustrations (one set of publishable quality plus two good quality sets for review) should be submitted. In addition authors should send the abstract in electronic format (either by e-mail or computer disk) to the Editor at the submission stage. The electronic abstract may be used to help select available reviewers.

Authors should submit five suggested reviewers by giving their name, address and e-mail.

Number of Copies

Manuscripts should be submitted in English as A4 double-spaced typescript with generous margins, complete in all respects, including a title and a suggested running head. The name and address of the author should appear in the exact form required for publication. Please send the original typescript and illustrations together with two photocopies of the typescript and a further two sets of high quality illustrations.

Title

The format for the title page is as follows: Title, Initials and last name of author #1*, Initials and last name of author #2, etc., Complete address of author #1, Complete address of author #2, etc., Running title: list an abbreviated title under 60 letters, Keywords: list up to 6 keywords, Acknowledgements, Correspondence author's details (including telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address), State if original or revised submission.

Abstracts

Manuscripts must be accompanied by an abstract of up to 200 words, typed on a separate sheet. In addition authors should send the abstract in electronic format (either on disk or by e-mail) at the submission stage. The electronic abstract may be used to help select available reviewers.

Reference Format

References should be arranged in alphabetical order by authors' names. The full title of each reference should be given, together with inclusive page numbers. Journal titles should be abbreviated in accordance with standard world lists. The style for references and for text citations should follow that shown in the current issue of this Journal.

Figures

All illustrations, whether text-figures or photographs, should be numbered with Arabic numbers in one sequence and referred to in the text as Fig.1, Fig. 2 and so on. Text figures (line drawings, graphs etc.) should be prepared in a form suitable for reduction to a maximum of 240 x 175 mm (9 3/8 x 6 7/8 inches). The width of a single column in the Journal is 85 mm (3 5/16 inches). Original artwork must not exceed 305 x 229 mm (12 x 9 inches). Text figures should be fully labelled by the author.

Figure captions should be concise but informative, and should include a statement telling the reader why the figure is there or what question the experimental procedure answers. They should be listed on a separate sheet and placed at the end of the manuscript (after Tables, before Figures).

Photographs should be submitted on glossy paper. Three complete sets of photographs should be submitted. Photographs should be labelled, using either black or white transfer lettering. They should be submitted mounted on board with a border and with a protective tracing paper overlay (not plastic film). Photographs should be numbered by the author.

Magnifications should be indicated by using scale bars in each photograph.

Authors should submit half-tone illustrations (light or electron micrographs) singly or grouped into composite plates to a maximum size of 240 x 176 mm (9 3/8 x 6 7/8inches).

Gutters between illustrations must be 2 mm wide and all edges must be straight. Half-tone illustrations smaller than the above, to share the page with text, are acceptable (but see under Charges, below).

Charges to Authors

No page charge will be made. Colour plates will be produced if the author is prepared to finance their production; a quotation will be supplied on request.

Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers and referred to in the text as Table 1, Table 2 and so on. Each table should be printed with its legend on a seprate page after the references.

Keywords

A list of up to six keywords should be supplied on the title page.

Case Reports

Short Notes: The Editor will endeavour to expedite handling of short communications of up to 2000 words and accompanied by up to 1.5 pages of diagrams and/or half-tone illustrations. Instructions for preparation of manuscripts (above) apply equally to short notes, and particular care should be given to preparation of micrographs, to ensure prompt publication of accepted manuscripts.

Disk/Electronic Submission

A computer disk, containing the same information as the submitted hard copy, should accompany the revised version of the manuscript. On the disk label indicate your name, the manuscript reference number, file name and format. PC (IBM) or Apple Macintosh compatible formats are acceptable. The text of your manuscript should be ordered similar to the hard copy and contained in a single file on the disk. Tables and Figure legends should be in a separate file. Computer generated figures will be handled conventionally and should not be included on the disk.

Copyright Information

Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, copyright of the paper shall be assigned to the Publisher. In consideration for the assignment of copyright, the Publisher will supply 25 offprints of each paper. The Publisher will not put any limitation on the personal freedom of the author to use material contained in the paper in any other works which may be published.

Proofs

Page proofs will be faxed/e-mailed/sent to the corresponding author. Major alterations will be charged to the author. It would be appreciated if corrections to proofs could be faxed/e-mailed/sent to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt of proofs.

Elsevier Science will do everything possible to get your article corrected and published as quickly and accurately as possible. Therefore it is important to ensure that all of your corrections are returned to us in one all-inclusive email or fax. Subsequent additional corrections will not be possible, so please ensure that your first communication is complete.

Offprints

Corresponding authors of papers receive 25 free copies. Further copies will be provided at the rates stated on the official order form which will be sent to the correspondence author along with the page proofs.
