Instructions to Authors
An electronic manuscript submission is preferred. Please e-mail the source file (tex, latex, word) and an electronic copy of the manuscript in either pdf or word format to: Professor Bezalel Gavish (Administrative Assistant) @ gavishadm@mail.cox.smu.edu. In addition one copy (with cover letter) should be sent to the Editors at the following address:
Professor Bezalel Gavish (Administrative Assistant) Editor-in-Chief Telecommunication Systems Journal Edwin L. Cox School of Business Southern Methodist University P.O. Box 750333 Dallas, TX 75275-0333, USA E-mail: gavishb@charter.net Tel: Office (214) 768-8258 FAX (214)768-4099
MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
There is no limit on the length of submitted papers. Submitted papers are typically 35 double-spaced typewritten pages, including bibliographies, tables, etc. Final versions of accepted manuscripts (including notes, references, tables, and legends) should be typed double-spaced on 8.5" x 11" (22 cm. x 29 cm.) white paper with 1" (2.5 cm.) margins on all sides. Sections should appear in the following order: title page, abstract, text, notes, references, tables, figure legends, and figures. Comments or replies to previously published articles should also follow this format with the exception of abstracts, which are not required.
Title Page. The title page should include the article title, authors' names and permanent affiliations, and the name, current address, e-mail address and telephone number of the person whom page proofs and reprints should be sent.
Abstract. The following page should include an abstract of not more than 100 words and a list of two to six keywords.
Text. The text of the article should begin on a new page. The introduction should have no heading or number. Subsequent section headings (including appendices) should be designated by arabic numerals (1, 2, etc.) and subsection headings should be numbered 1.1, 1.2, etc. Figures, tables, and displayed equations should be numbered consecutively throughout the text (1, 2, etc.). Equation numbers should appear flush left in parentheses and running variables for equations (e.g., i = 1,..., n) flush right in parentheses.
Notes. Acknowledgments and related information should appear in a note designated by an asterisk after the last author憇 name, and subsequent notes should be numbered consecutively and designated by superscripts in the text. All notes should be typed double-spaced beginning on a separate page following the text.
References. References in the text should follow the author-date format (e.g. Brown (1986), Jones (1978a, 1978b), Smith and Johnson (1983)). References should be typed double-spaced beginning on a separate page following the notes, according to the following samples (journal and book titles may be underlined rather than italicized). References with up to three authors should include the names of each author, references with four or more authors should cite the first author and add "et al." It is the responsibility of the authors to verify all references.

Smith, V. Kerry. (1986). "A Conceptual Overview of the Foundations of Benefit-Cost Analysis." In Judith Bentkover, Vincent Covello, and Jeryl Mumpower (eds.), Benefits Assessments: The State of the Art. Dordrecht: D. Reidel Publishing Co.
Tables. Tables should be titled and typed double-spaced, each on a separate sheet, following the reference. Notes to tables should be designated by superscript letters within each table and typed double-spaced on the same page as the table. Use descriptive labels rather than computer acronyms, and explain all abbreviations. When tables are typed on oversized paper, please submit both the original and a reduced copy.
Figures. Figures for accepted manuscripts should be submitted in camera-ready form, i.e., clear glossy prints or drawn in India ink on drafting paper or high quality white paper. Lettering in figures should be large enough to be legible after half-size reduction. Authors should submit one 5" x 7" (13 cm. x 18 cm.) original and two photocopies of each figure, with authors?names, manuscript title, and figure number on the back of each original and copy (use gummed labels if necessary to avoid damaging originals). Figures should be enclosed in a separate envelope backed by cardboard and without staples or paper clips. Figure legends should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet following the tables.
ELECTRONIC DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED PAPERS
Please send only the electronic version (of ACCEPTED paper) via one of the methods listed below. Note, in the event of minor discrepancies between the electronic version and hard copy, the electronic file will be used as the final version. Kluwer can accept almost any file format (such as Word Perfect, Microsoft Word, and so on), as well as ASCII (text only) files. Note, it is also helpful to supply both the source and the ASCII file of a paper. Please submit encapsulated PostScript files for figures. An encapsulated PostScript figure file should be named after its figure number--for example, fig1.eps or circle.eps.
Via anonymous FTP ftp:ftp.wkap.com cd:/incoming/production send e-mail to KAPfiles@wkap.com to inform Kluwer electronic version is at this FTP site.
Via electronic mail
- Please e-mail electronic version to: KAPfiles@wkap.com
- Recommended formats for sending files via e-mail:
- Binary files - uuencode or binhex
- Compressing files - compress, pkzip or gzip
- Collecting files - tar
- The e-mail message should include the author憇 last name, the name of the journal to which the paper has been accepted, and the type of file (e.g., LaTeX or ASCII).
Via disk
- Label a 3.5 inch floppy disk with the operating system and word processing program along with the authors?names, manuscript title, and name of journal to which the paper has been accepted.
- Mail disk to:
Kluwer Academic Publishers Desktop Department 101 Philip Drive, Assinippi Park Norwell, MA 02061, USA
Any questions about the above procedures please send e-mail to: dthelp@wkap.com
