About the journal

Survey Review, ISSN 0039-6265, was first published in 1931 as a result of a resolution of the First Commonwealth Survey Officers Conference in 1928. It has been published continuously since then as a quarterly journal, bringing together a wide range of papers on research, theory, practice and management in land and engineering surveying. All papers are independently assessed by two referees and come from government, private industry and academic organisations world-wide.

Survey Review is included in the Institute of Scientific Research (ISI) index of the most important and influential research conducted throughout the world. It is published quarterly, in January, April, July and October, by the Commonwealth Association for Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE), whose address is:

General instructions and hints to authors can be found as Camera Ready Copy for Survey Review on pages 74-76 of issue No. 279 of January 2001 with additional Hints inside the back cover of every issue. These are both reproduced below

Those authors who are unable to supply crc are asked to:

provide three type-written, double spaced copies (including tables, legends for figures, footnotes, and a list of references);

retain a further copy of the original manuscript for personal future reference, especially in case of loss or accident to the copy;

send the copy flat with pages clipped, not stapled, together;

leave wide margins on either side of the typescript and circle instructions which otherwise may be assumed to be part of the text (all text must be on one side of the paper only).

The title of the paper should be concise and indicate clearly the subject matter of the paper. This should be followed by name(s) of author(s) and place(s) of work. The text of the paper must be preceded by an abstract, a concise precis of the content of the paper.

All figures and tables should be provided separately and kept flat. Line drawings should be compiled in black on white or transparent material and lettering completed in a clear form suitable for either direct reproduction or reduction. Photographs should have good contrast and intensity, and be glossy to give good half-tone reproduction. They should be given their figure number on the reverse. All figure numbers, titles and legends should be included on a separate list added to the copy.

The list of references should be numbered in alphabetical order (with reference to the initial letter of the author's surname) and reference numbers should be inserted (in bold type within square brackets e.g. [12] at relevant points within the text.

References to articles which have appeared in journals should be given in the following form:

12.___Hotine, M., 1950. Survey for colonial development. Empire Survey Review, X(77): 290-301.

(i.e. Reference number - full stop - author's surname - comma - author's initials - full stop - comma - year - full stop - title of paper - full stop - name of journal (italics) comma - volume and/or number - colon - first and last page number - full stop).

In the case of books, the publisher, place of publication, and the total number of pages should be given in the following form:
