About the journal
Stratigraphy and Geological Correlation (Stratigrafiya, Geologicheskaya Korrelyatsiya) is the only journal in the world designed to provide comprehensive coverage of the fundamental and applied aspects of stratigraphy and the correlation of geological events and processes in time and space. Articles are based on the results of multidisciplinary research, and are directed toward researchers, university professors, students, and geologists interested in understanding stratigraphy and the chronological features of the world’s geological record.
Stratigraphy and Geological Correlation is abstracted and/or indexed in Petroleum Abstracts, Research Alert, SciSearch, Current Contents (Physical, Chemical, and Earth Sciences) and World Translations Index.
Instructions to Authors
Journal Stratigraphy and Geological Correlation is aimed to publish the results of historical–geological research and achievements in stratigraphy and time–space correlation of geological events, which are used as a basis for a broad scientific synthesis. Contributors are encouraged to submit papers devoted to the following topics: general and regional problems of continental and oceanic stratigraphy; theory and methodology of stratigraphic investigations; isotopic geochronology; biostratigraphy and biosphere evolution; basinal analysis; paleoclimatology; and global changes in the Earth’s geological history. Of prime priority are papers integrating the results of multidisciplinary research. Other rubrics of the journal are those of brief communications, discussions, chronicle, and memorable dates. Simultaneous publication of Russian and English versions of the journal implies additional requirements to submitted materials.
The manuscript should be attentively corrected and signed by author(s). Clear and easily understandable writing style is required for an adequate translation into English. A letter of transmittal from host organization, full author(s) name(s), and possibilities of communication (phone numbers, post and e-mail addresses) should be attached. Submission of text in printed and electronic forms is required.
Body text of the manuscript (two copies without handwritten corrections) should be printed doublespaced on a white paper, size A4 (297 × 210 mm), with the left margin 25 mm wide or more and 29 to 30 lines per a page. All pages should be numbered in order (top center of each page). Figures, tables, and photographs submitted separately should not exceed the A4 size.
The required manuscript form is as follows: (1) title, (2) initials and last name(s) of author(s), full address(es) of host organization(s), (3) abstract (not more than one page), (4) key words (eight words or less), (5) date of submission, and (6) body text. Standard rubrics of the body text are Introduction, Materials, Investigation Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
Units of measurements should correspond to those of SI system. All abbreviations, except for those accepted worldwide, must be explained in the text. Formulas and mineral or element symbols must be printed, not handwritten. Distinctions between letters or digits of similar configurations in the upper and lower cases (e.g., O, S, Roman digits, etc.) should be indicated by double lines below or above, respectively. Subscripts and superscripts, if not printed, should be handwritten very accurately. Handwritten Greek letters should be underlined red.
Description of paleontological remains should correspond to the format accepted in Paleontological Journal. Latin names of fossils (italic) in the text should include indications of taxa authors (plain).
It is necessary to submit two original copies of all illustrations (figures and photographs) sized 5 × 6 to 18 × 24 cm. Xerocopies are unacceptable. Scale must be indicated in all maps. Figures should be original drawings in Indian ink or printed on a white paper using a laser printer with resolution of 300 dpi. Photographs must be of good quality, printed on glossy paper and arranged on separate page(s) 23 × 17 cm in size. Figure captions should include explanations to all letter and other symbols used in drawings. Figure numbers and author(s) names should be indicated underside.
References in alphabetic order of authors’ names should strictly follow the journal’s format (see recent issues for examples). In the text, they should appear in appropriate places in the following formats: (Ivanov, 2000), (Ivanov and Petrov, 2000), (Ivanov et al., 2000), (Stratigraphy of Kazakhstan…, 1950).
Russian authors should additionally submit the following information: (1) English spelling of foreign proper nouns mentioned in the text; (2) used quotations in the original language; (3) preferable translation of special terms; (4) list of eponymous geographic names for stratigraphic units having proper nouns (e.g., Min’yarskaya formatsiya—town of Min’yar).
The electronic version of manuscript (3.5" diskette of IBM PC or Apple Macintosh format) should include the body text file and separate files of each illustration or table. It is admissible, depending on the file volume, to use the well-known ARJ, ZIP, and RAR archivers. Authors are encouraged to submit the list of files and to check identity of electronic and printed versions of the manuscript. The antiviral test of submitted electronic materials is also recommended.
The recommended word processor is Microsoft Word for Windows, and standard True Type fonts (Times New Roman, Courier New, or Arial), size 12 pt, should be used in processing.
Scan graphics should be presented in TIF format, resolution 600 dpi, 256-step gray scale. Vector graphics can be prepared using CorelDraw 9.0 or lower, Adobe Illustrator 8.0 or lower, and FreeHand 8.0 or lower. Resolution less than 300 dpi is impermissible for photograph files. When specific software was used to prepare graphics, their files should be saved in WMF or EPS formats. File names should include their ordinal numbers.
