Length should average 3500 words and four to six illustrations. Include a 75-word abstract, complete figure captions and a maximum 20 references. We usually need articles at least 3 months in advance of the issue to be published. When submitting an unsolicited manuscript, please remember: · Emailed versions of articles are acceptable and preferred (as long as < 2.5 Mbytes) in a .txt, .rtf or .doc format. If the file is larger, please mail two double-spaced, typewritten copies of your article. The pages of the article should be numbered. Art should be clearly labeled, numbered, and referenced in the article text. · Include authors' affiliations, complete mailing addresses, phone, fax, and email info. The number of authors should not exceed 5. Others should be listed in acknowledgment. · References should list all supporting details, including authors and titles of articles. When your article is accepted, please submit (if not done so already): · A Windows-formatted disk with a Microsoft Word version of your article. Label the disk with the complete file name. This file can also be e-mailed to us if it is < 2.5 Mbytes. · Original photos/drawings. Send graphics on a 3.5" DS HD Mac (1.44 MB) or PC disk, Zip, CD, or Syquest. Or email them to us. · Do not email figures if they are over 2.5 Mbytes. For line drawings, we prefer Adobe Illustrator format; but we can also use encapsulated postscript (EPS) format. For photos or SEMs, we can accept a color transparency or print, or an electronic version; we prefer a Mac TIFF file with minimum 266 pixels per inch resolution. Call for more information. Print copies of the graphics should accompany the disk. disk must be labeled with its format and figure numbers used. · A signed copy of the publication agreement, which will be sent to you.
