Instructions to Authors
|
Scandinavian Journal of Laboratory Animal Science is an international journal covering all aspects of laboratory animal science.
Categories of papers The Journal will publish manuscripts in the following categories: Original scientific articles. Such reports may be based on an animal experiment, but may as well be the results of epidemiological surveillances, case stories, description of theories, etc. The results must not have been published elsewhere. If parts of the results have been published elsewhere (e.g. as an abstract) this information must be given in the accompanying letter. Reviews survey recent developments within a relevant area. Notes are short reports fulfilling the requirements for an original scientific article, but not allowing any general conclusions. Technical reports gives details about one or several specific techniques developed by the author without any scientific conclusions. Letters are comments on any matter of concern within the field of laboratory animal science. All original scientific articles, reviews and notes are peer reviewed by at least two external referees. Authors are welcome to suggest referees.
Style and format The papers should be written in concise and clear English. Technical reports and letters may be accepted in a Scandinavian language. Scandinavian authors must submit a Scandinavian as well as an English summary. All procedures involving live animals must have been performed in accordance with National legislation and The Council Directive of the European Communities on the Protection of Animals Used for Experimental and Other Scientific Purposes (L358/1, November 24, 1986). It is recommended, but not mandatory, to divide papers into the following sections: Front page with title, subtitle, names and adresses of authors, and a detailed address for correspondence, summary in English and Scandinavian (will be provided by the editorial board for foreign authors), introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgements (if any) and references. All references must be given with the surnames in the same order as that given by the original author. Only initials are used for first names giving the initials of the first author after the surname, and the remaining in front of the surname. All authors are listed. After the surnames follows: Title of the paper, Name of the journal in abbreviation, issue (vol No): first page-last page, year of publication. When quoting parts of books the editor names are given followed by (eds.) and the title of the book, publisher and year. In the text references are quoted as first author et al, year, when more than two authors, first & second author, year, when only two authors, and author, year, when only one author. Under the materials and methods section detailed information must be given concerning animals (species, stock/strain, source, genetic and microbiological status, age or weight), their husbandry (microbiological protection, equipment, caging, bedding, temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, feeding), products used and the experimental procedure. Commercial suppliers are given in brackets after the product followed by the city and country. Tables, illustrations, graphs and texts for illustrations should be sent on separate papers marked with authors name on the backside. These should be supplied in a ready to print quality, or on a diskette in a DOS-compatible version.
Submission Papers are submitted in 3 copies to one of the national editors. It is mandatory also to supply a diskette with a DOS-compatible version of the paper. An accompanying letter signed by all authors or a senior author on behalf of all the other authors stating that the manuscript has not been submitted for publication elsewhere must be included.
Correction and reprints Page proofs are sent to the authors for correction. These must be returned within 3 days after receipt. Reprints are only supplied on request and must be paid by the author. |
