PREPARING FOR SUBMISSION Submission of a manuscript is held to imply that the paper has not been published elsewhere and that, if accepted, it will not be republished in any other journal in the same or similar form without the Publisher's written consent.
Conflict of interest and funding: Authors are responsible for recognising and disclosing financial and other conflicts of interest that might bias their work. They should acknowledge in the manuscript all financial support for the work and other financial or personal connections to the work.
SUBMISSION Submit the original manuscript (including figures and tables) and two copies thereof in heavy-paper envelope, accompanied by a covering letter from the author responsible for correspondence. The letter should contain a statement that the manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors. Manuscripts should also be submitted in electronic form (see below). Authors should keep copies of everything submitted. Upon receipt, the manuscript will be given a received date and sent to reviewers. Each article will be reviewed by at least two referees.
Authors are requested to restrict the length of the manuscript as much as possible. If an article exceeds 6 printed pages (about 12 typewritten sheets including tables and figures, 20 lines at 15 cm per sheet) the cost of the excess pages will be charged to the author at a rate of USD 185 per printed page.
Electronic Manuscripts The editors encourage submissions on diskette to facilitate rapid accessibility of your work to the readers. The electronic files and the printout must be identical. Cost of changes to the electronic manuscript may be charged to the author(s). The diskette should be labeled with your name and the name of the computer platform and version of the word processing system you have used. Please observe that Taylor & Francis can receive files from any word processing system; however, styled Microsoft Word files are preferred.
Please keep illustrations as separate files, e.g. EPS, TIFF, JPEG. The colour must be CMYK, not RGB; all fonts must be embedded, and the resolution of images should be of a quality suitable for printing; i.e. files downloaded from web pages are not suitable, they will look acceptable on screen but not when printed. Do not use colour files if black and white only output is required.
Please use these simple guidelines when preparing your electronic manuscript:
1. Please be consistent. The same elements should be keyed in exactly the same way throughout the manuscript.
2. Do not break words at the end of lines. Use a hyphen only to hyphenate compound words
3. Enter only one space after the full-stop at the end of a sentence.
4. When emphasising words, please use the italic feature of your word processor software.
5. Do not justify your text; use a ragged right-hand margin.
6. Use a double hyphen (--) to indicate a dash in text.
7. Do not use the lowercase l for 1 (one) or the uppercase O for 0 (zero).
8. The space bar should only be used as a word separator. Use TAB when indenting paragraphs or separating columns in tables.
Arrangement It is presupposed that manuscripts submitted are in their final form. All manuscripts should be written in English of an acceptably high standard. Authors with a mother tongue other than English are recommended to have the language revised separately. Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced with a left-hand margin, including reference list, tables and figure legends. Mark all pages in the upper right-hand corner with page number and author's name. New paragraphs should be marked with indentation. The SI system which includes the metric system, should be used throughout. Footnotes and letter-spacing are not allowed in the main text. Scientific genera and taxa of lower rank should be underlined to indicate italics.
Each manuscript component should begin on a new page, in this sequence:
Title page Abstract and Key words Text Acknowledgements References Tables Figure legends Figures
Title page The title page should contain; title of paper, running headline (max 50 characters), author's first and last name, institution, department, location, country. The main title should contain the words necessary for correct indexing with species names in Latin. Titles should be as brief as clarity permits.
Abstract and Key words The manuscript should open with an abstract not exceeding 150 words. Problem, methods employed and main results should be stated. Key words, in alphabetic order, should be carefully selected, since they will be used for different databases
Siev鋘en, R. (Finnish Forest Research Institute, Department of Mathematics Unioninkatu 40 A, SF-00170 Helsinki, Finland) A process-based model for the dimensional growth of evenaged stands. Received Aug.5, 1991; Accepted Jan. 23, 1992. Scand. J. For. Res. 8: 28-48, 1993.
An individual tree, process-based stand growth model is presented. It is based .... .... that the stand growth model is approximately consistent with the so-called self-thinning rule. Keywords: carbon balance, growth and yield, individual tree growth model, stand growth model.
Text The following headings should normally be used: INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION.
The Introduction should provide a general orientation of the subject and present the reasons for and aims of the study. It should be concisely written. Text references should be written: Mityga & Lanphear (1971), Hutchinson et al. (1986) (if more than two authors) or (Mityga & Lanphear l971, Hutchinson et al. 1986). References should be cited chronologically. Materials and methods must provide information enough to permit exact replication of the experimental work. Results should be clear, concise and as objective as possible. No discussion of the results is permitted in this section. Indicate in the left-hand margin the approximate position of figures and tables. Discussion should not repeat results, but in a logical way interpret the main results with reference to relevant figures, tables and references. The discussion should be concisely written.
References ISBN or ISSN number must be given for proceedings, transactions and monographs, and books published after 1972.

Tables Each table should be numbered with an explanatory heading, and written on a separate sheet. The tablesmust be planned to fit to a final width of 8 or 16.6 cm.
Figures Illustrations should be unmounted, photographs submitted as glossy prints, and diagrams and sketches in a state suitable for direct reproduction. Affix a label below each figure, bearing figure number, author's name and title of paper. Do not write on back of figures. Since illustrations must usually be reduced from the size submitted, authors should ensure that numerical and alphabetic notations are large enough to be fully legible after reproduction (1-2 mm). One uniform final size of the letters throughout is generally recommended. Figures should be planned to appear with a maximum final width of either 8 or 16.6 cm. Each figure should be boxed in and scale marks (inwards) provided on all axes. Foldouts and colour illustrations are permitted, provided the author bears the cost. The cost to the author is USD 750 per printed page. List of figure legends on separate sheet.
Early Electronic Offprints: Corresponding authors can now receive their article by e-mail as a complete PDF. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of the journal can be purchased at the author抯 preferential rate of ?5.00/$25.00 per copy.
