Instructions to Authors
RTM ARTICLE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Articles are reviewed by the Board of Editors, within approximately 8 weeks. Reviewers look for ideas and information that will help industrial R&D/technology managers run their operations more effectively. This means an emphasis on "real-world" experience that can be put to use by practitioners across a broad spectrum of industries.
Articles based primarily on research studies should, therefore, de-emphasize methodology in favor of explaining what the investigators learned and why those findings are meaningful to industry managers.
We welcome short summaries of prospective articles, and will comment on their suitability to the RTM audience.
Manuscripts submitted for review should be typewritten on good paper (not faxed), double-spaced, and paginated. References should be numbered in the order in which they are cited, listed only once, and written to conform to the Chicago Manual of Style.
Illustrations should be individually numbered and furnished one per page on 8-1/2 x 11 white paper. They will be printed in black-and-white exactly as furnished, but reduced to a width of 1 column (3-1/4 inches) or 2 columns (6-1/2 inches). Simple charts and graphs may be smaller. Therefore, symbols and lettering should be prepared in a single sans serif type style (preferably the standard "Helvetica" family.) Set call-outs and other wording in 12 pt. Condensed Helvetica, with initial caps and lowercase. Any headlines should be 14-pt. bold face capital letters, and any notes or references should be 8-pt. regular italic face, upper and lowercase.
Do not generate illustrations from low-resolution dot-matrix printers. And avoid color, light lines, shading, and stippling. Use heavy lines, or black, white, hatched, and cross-hatched designs in place of stippling on charts and graphs.
Mail two copies of your manuscript to: Michael F. Wolff, Editor, RTM, 65 East 96th Street, #7B, New York, NY 10128.
If your manuscript has been published elsewhere, or is currently under consideration by another publication, this should be made clear.
Thank you for your interest in RTM.
