SUBMISSION OF PAPER
Submission of a paper to Plasma Devices and Operations will be taken to imply that it represents original work not previously published, that is not being considered elsewhere for publication, and that if accepted for publication it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in any language, without the consent of the Editor and the Publisher. It is a condition of the acceptance by the editor of a typescript for publication that the publisher automatically acquired the copyright of the typescript throughout the world. It will also be assumed that the author has obtained all necessary permissions to include in the paper such items as quotations, figures, tables, results of government-sponsored research etc.
SUBMISSIONS
Papers should be typed on good quality paper with double spacing and wide (3 cm) margins, using one side only. Three copies must be submitted to the Editor in Chief or one of the Editorial Board. One copy of the typescript must be the original "top" copy. Xerox or equivalent clear carbon copies are acceptable for the others. Papers are only accepted in English.
Title Page: The first page of the typescript should contain: (1) the title of the paper (avoiding abbreviations); (2) the name(s) of the contributor(s), omitting honors, degrees etc.; (3) the affiliation and address of each author; (4) an additional shortened running title (usually) not more than 35 characters including spaces; (5) the full postal address of the author to whom proofs, correspondence, requests for reprints etc. should be sent.
Abstracts and Keywords: Each paper requires an abstract of 150 words or less, and six keywords suitable for inclusion in a computer data base.
MISCELLANEOUS
Use one footnote on page one for correspondence, reprint requests etc. Pages of each copy must be sequentially numbered. Use underlines only for emphasis and where italics are intended. Measurements and units should be expressed with their exact abbreviations in metric SI units, e.g. s and ms (not sec and msec). Do not separate a word with a hyphen at the end of a line; put it on the next line. Spell out all abbreviations the first time they occur.
TEXT HEADINGS
Set first-level headings in capital letters over to the left, begin the text on the following line. Second-level headings should be typed in lower-case letters but with all main words capitalized; underline the heading. For third-level headings, only the first letter should be a capital; underline the heading. For example:
FIRST LEVEL HEADINGS
Second Level Headings
Third level headings With text run on.
FIGURES
All figures should be numbered with consecutive arabic numerals, have descriptive captions and be mentioned in the text. Keep figures separate from the text, but indicate an approximate position for each in the margin. A list of figure captions, with relevant figure numbers, should be typed on a separate sheet and included with the typescript. Capitalize the first letter or the first word in figure captions.
All figures must be of a high enough standard for direct reproduction. Line drawings should be prepared in black (india) ink on white paper or tracing paper, with all lettering and symbols included. Alternatively, good sharp photoprints ("glossies") are acceptable. Photographs intended for halftone reproduction must be good glossy original prints, of maximum contrast. Using pencil, clearly label each figure with the author's name and figure number; indicate "top" where this is not obvious. Redrawing or retouching of unusable figures will be charged to authors. Figures should be planned so that they reduce to 12.5 cm column width. The preferred width of submitted line drawings is 22 to 25 cm, with capital lettering 4 mm high, for reduction by one-half. Photographs for halftone reproduction should be approximately twice the desired size. Improper preparation of figures is among the most common causes of delay in the publication of articles.
Colour Pages
There are a limited number of color pages within the annual page allowance. However, authors should restrict their use of color to situations where it is necessary on scientific, and not merely cosmetic, grounds. In addition, authors may pay to publish color illustrations, but please consult the publisher regarding cost before submission.
TABLES
Tables should be typed on separate sheets, numbered consecutively with roman numerals, and have a short descriptive caption at the top. Capitalize the first letter of the first word in table captions. Tables may be placed in the typescript immediately following the page of text with which they should be printed, or they may be grouped separately. In the latter case, indicate in the text where the tables are to appear. Avoid the use of vertical rules in tables. Each table should be mentioned in the text. Extensive and/or complex tables will be reproduced as illustrations. Therefore, they should be typed carefully and in the exact form desired. Computer printouts will normally be reproduced as illustrations.
MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSIONS
Wherever possible, mathematical expressions should be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin when they first occur. To simplify typesetting, please use the "exp" form of complex exponential functions, fractional exponents instead of root signs, and the solidus (/) to simplify fractions - e.g. exp x 1/2. Equations must be displayed exactly as they should appear in print, and numbered in parentheses placed at the right-hand margin. Reference to equations in the text should use the form "Eq. (5)" or simply "(5)".
UNITS
Measurements and units should be expressed with their exact abbreviations in metric SI units. For further details consult BSI 5775 Quantities, Units and Abbreviations, available from the British Standards Institute, Linford Wood, Milton Keynes MK14 6LE, UK.
REFERENCES
The journal's reference style generally follows that suggested by Physical Review (numbered references) with the following exception: the title of the article should follow the author list and precede the journal name as examples:
1. A. Brown, Diamond-anvil studies at high-pressures, Phys. Rev., 26, 5668 (1982).
2. J. P. Hansen and I. R. McDonald, Theory of simple Liquids (Academic Press, New York 1976), p. 426.
PROOFS
Authors will receive page proofs (including figures) by airmail for correction, which must be returned within 48 hours of receipt. Author's alterations in excess of 10% of the original composition cost will be charged to authors.
REPRINTS
Fifty free reprints will be provided to the corresponding author of each paper. Additional reprints may be ordered by completing the appropriate form sent with proofs.
PAGE CHARGES
There are no page charges to individuals or to institutions. Any correspondence regarding subscriptions, proofs, reprints or any other publishing details should be directed to the publisher.
A FINAL NOTE
Typescripts that do not conform to the required standards for preparation for submission outlined here may be returned for revision.
