PEDIATRIC HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY
This international bimonthly publishes original articles, short communications, brief reports, reviews, letters, technical notes, book reviews, announcements and editorials/annotations on all aspects of pediatric hematology and oncology. The journal covers immunology, pathology, and pharmacology in relation to blood diseases and cancer in children and shows how basic experimental research can contribute to the understanding of clinical problems. Articles from all over the world are considered for publication. Papers on related ethical, legal, psychological, social, cultural, or historical aspects of these fields are also appreciated. The journal is not dependent on or connected with any organization or society. |

Submission of Manuscripts Send the original type-written manuscript and three photocopies with three sets of illustrations to Louise Parker, Sir James Spence Institute of Child Health, Newcastle University, RV1 Queen Victoria Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4LP, UK. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors’ names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied, and authors must still read proofs carefully.
Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. The length must not exceed 20 pages. All titles should be as brief as possible, 6 to 12 words. Authors should also supply a short-ended version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.
References Number in the order cited; use a bracketed Arabic numeral for text citations. Papers "In press" may be included in the reference list; results "to be published or received by personal communication" should appear within parentheses in the text. journal titles should be abbreviated as in Index Medicus. References must conform to the style of the American Medical Association. Reference Samples:

Illustrations Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Four-color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200.00. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good quality color prints should be provided in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend, and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated.
Abbreviations Use standard abbreviations. The following source may be consulted for standard abbreviations: CBE Style Manual, American Institute of Biological Sciences, Arlington, VA. Any non-standard abbreviations (to be avoided if possible) should be explained in the text the first time they are used. Avoid abbreviations in the title. Quantities and units should be expressed in accordance with the recommendations of the Systeme International d'Unites (S1).
Page Charges Part of the publication cost is covered by a page charge of $43.50 per printed page. If these charges are paid, the author will receive 50 reprints of the article. The acceptance and publication of papers are not dependent on the payment of these charges.
Proofs and Author's Alterations Page proofs are sent to the designated author. They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt in order to avoid publication delay. Only minor corrections against the manuscript can be allowed without charge.
Reprints Reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis. Use the reprint order form included with page proofs.
