About the journal
The journal provides cutting edge, international information focusing on diagnosis and treatment plus reports of interesting and unusual diseases reported through our Case Reports, Diagnostic Dilemmas, Fetal and Neonatal Investigations and Reports. Equally important, the journal provides teaching vignettes in the format of the Clinicopathologic Conference, the Syndrome Page, our surgical column, Techniques for Tots, and a newly established Genetics Column. In addition, previously published papers from the international literature are abstracted in the Literature Review section plus the abstracts of the World Congress of Pediatric Dermatology as well as abstracts for numerous other national and regional society meetings.

Instructions to Authors
Submission Policy Manuscripts will be considered for publication in the form of original articles, case reports, reviews, descriptions of techniques, brief communications, and letters.
Submission of a paper implies that it reports unpublished work, except in abstract form, and is not being submitted simultaneously to another publication. Accepted manuscripts become the sole property of Pediatric Dermatology and may not be published elsewhere without consent from the publisher. All articles are subject to review by experienced referees. The Editors and Editorial Board judge manuscripts suitable for publication, and decisions by the Editors are final. Material accepted for publication is copy edited and typeset. Proofs are sent to contributors for final review. Contributors are responsible for the entire content of the copyedited article. Extensive changes to the proofs will be charged to the contributors and could delay publication.
Address for Contributors
Submit 3 copies of the manuscript - the original and 2 duplicates plus one copy on disk to:
Nancy B. Esterly Editor Pediatric Dermatology Room 127-22 Froedtert East 9200 W. Wisconsin Avenue Milwaukee, WI 53226 USA
Form of Manuscript The entire manuscript should be typed double-spaced using ample margins on standard white heavy duty bond paper. Do not use erasable paper. Submit the original typescript and two high-quality photocopies of all elements of the manuscript. Keep a copy of the manuscript for your reference.
Place page number and senior author's name in the upper right-hand corner of each page, numbering consecutively in this order: title page, abstract, text, references, tables, figure legends. Include original figures in a protective folder along with the manuscript.
Title Page. On the title page, provide the complete title and a brief title (not to exceed 45 letters and spaces) for use as a running head. List each contributor's name, highest degree, and institutional affiliation. Provide the name, address, and telephone number of the contributor responsible for the manuscript and proofs. This is the person to whom reprints will be sent.
Abstract. The abstract may have up to 200 words. It should summarize the problems presented and describe the studies undertaken, results, and conclusions.
Text. The text of the manuscript should be in the following sequence: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussions, Acknowledgments, References, tables, and figure legends. Type footnotes (double-spaced) on the bottom of the page on which they are mentioned. Cite all tables and figures in the text, numbering them sequentially as they are cited.
References. References must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in parenthesis in the order in which they appear in the text. The reference list should conform to the style used by the National Library of Medicine and Index Medicus. Spell out singleword journal titles and abbreviate all others as shown in the latest edition of the ''List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus, '' available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington DC 20402, or found in the January issue of Index Medicus. All references must be verified by the author(s).
Sample reference citations follow. For questions, consult ''Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals,'' available from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors .

Tables. Tables should be typed double-spaced on separate sheets and numbered consecutively within the text. Tables and text should not duplicate each other. If possible, hold tables to one standard manuscript page: if the table continues past one page, repeat all heads and the stub (lefthand column). Explain all abbreviations in a footnote. Provide a number and title for each table.
Figure legends. Each figure must have a corresponding legend which must be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet of paper. Do not attach the legends to the figures. Each legend must be numbered with an Arabic number to correspond to the illustration as it appears in the text. Explain all symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters used in the figure and provide information on scale and/or magnification. For photomicrographs, include information on the method of staining.
Figures. Note that the original and two copies of all illustrations must be submitted. Illustrations should be submitted unmounted. Do not trim or write on back; do not use paperclips. Attach a gummed label to the back of each illustration giving the figure number, author's name, and an arrow to indicate the top.
Have artwork drawn by an experienced illustrator. Labels and call-outs should be done by preset type or template lettering, not by hand. The labels should be legible when the figure is reduced to column width. The publisher does not reconstruct artwork. Black and white photostats (5" x 7") of drawn materials should be supplied. Do not send original art.
For halftones (photographs, photomicrographs), clear black and white prints must be submitted. For photographs of recognizable subjects, submit a signed release form from the patient authorizing publication. Photomicrographs must have internal scale markers.
Indicate crop marks on tracing paper overlays. Arrows, indicators, or letters can be applied using a professional graphic transfer product (such as Chartpak). Consider clarity after reduction. Color figures that significantly enhance the article will be considered for publication. Positive 35mm transparencies should be submitted for evaluation (color prints should not be submitted without transparencies). The contributor will be assessed a fee for up to 6 finished color illustrations that will fit on one side of a single page, and for additional figures or special effects.
Cite each figure in the text by its number. Figures should be numbered consecutively as they appear in the text. If a figure has been previously published, permission must be received in writing for its use regardless of authorship or publisher. Acknowledgment of the original source must be included in the legend.
Details of Style Give all measurements in metric units. Use generic names of drugs. Adhere to acceptable English usage and syntax; avoid jargon, euphemistic phrasing, and obscure terms and abbreviations. For abbreviations, follow the Council of Biology Editors Style Manual available from the Council of Biology Editors, Inc., 11 South La Salle Street, Suite 1400, Chicago, IL 60603. Also DHEW Publication No. (NIH)80267; ISSN 00933821.
Credits and Permissions In addition to the notice of informed consent and releases to publish photographs of recognizable persons, submit with the manuscript written permission to use non-original material (quotations exceeding 100 words, any table or figure) from both author and publisher of the original. Credit the source in a text or table footnote or at the end of a figure legend.
Proofs and Reprints Proofs must be returned within 1 week of receipt; late return may cause a delay in publishing the article. An order form for reprints will be included with the proofs. Mail proofs and order forms to:
Blackwell Publishing Inc. 238 Main Street Cambridge, MA 02142 USA Mail via first class; airmail for overseas contributors.
