PATHOLOGY RESEARCH AND PRACTICE
Pathology, Research and Practice provides accessible coverage of the most recent developments across the entire field of pathology:
Reviews focus on recent progress in pathology, while Comments look at interesting current problems and at hypotheses for future developments in pathology. Original Papers present novel findings on all aspects of general, anatomic and molecular pathology. Rapid Communications inform readers on preliminary findings that may be relevant for further studies and need to be communicated quickly. Teaching Cases look at new aspects or special diagnostic problems of diseases and at case reports relevant for the pathologist's practice. |

Instructions to Authors
PATHOLOGY RESEARCH AND PRACTICE publishes original contributions exclusively in the English language addressing the entire field of pathology. Regular sections are: Original Papers; Animal and In Vitro Models in Human Diseases studies that include animal or cell models illustrating human disease and its treatment and pathogenesis; Histotechniques manuscripts concerning new technical proceedures; Teaching Cases case reports of paradigmatic interest published along with one or two Critical Commentaries written by selected experts; Diagnostic Seminars papers dealing with specific topics providing information on new trends and results in diagnostic histology and cytology; Rapid Communications short original papers with new findings of critical importance; Reviews reports of new developments. "Letters to the Editor" and "Announcements" meant for publication should be addressed as such and sent to either of the European Executive Editors. "Letters" may include comments addressing previously printed articles or any topic of general pathologic interest. "Announcements" are printed without any charge.

Preparation of Manuscripts
Manuscripts must be submitted in triplicate (one original and two copies). The papers must be double-spaced throughout, including references, tables and legends. Pages should be numbered consecutively, the title page counting as p. 1. The page number and last name of the first author must appear in the upper right hand corner of each page.
Manuscript Layout
1. Title page
The Title page must include the Department of Origin, full Title (a maximum of two lines), First and Last Name of each author, a short Running Title, Key Words (a maximum of 5), and Address for Correspondence.
2. Summary
The Summary should not be written on the title page, but on p. 2, and is not to exceed a maximum of 200 words. It presents the purpose of the investigation, the most important methods, the main findings, and the principal conclusion.
3. Key Words
For each manuscript a maximum of five Key Words are required, referring to the special contents of the publication, and not to its methods. Key Words are used for compilation of a subject index at the end of each volume and have to be selected accordingly. The Editors retain the right to change the Key Words.
4. Text
Original Papers: Articles intended as "Original Papers" must be subdivided into the following four categories, in the following order: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results and Discussion. Papers should not exceed 10 printed pages. One printed page equals about 3 typewritten pages with 33 lines per page and 65 strokes per line. Any enclosed figures and tables must be referred to in the description of the Results and/or the Discussion. Original papers also include the categories "Animal and In Vitro Models in Human Diseases" and "Histotechniques." Teaching Cases: "Teaching Cases" are prepared as "Original Papers," though must include an extra page with the complete names and addresses of four experts to serve as possible authors for the accompaning "Critical Commentaries." Rapid Communications: "Rapid Communications" are reserved for reporting new observations of critical importance. They should not exceed 2 printed pages plus 4 illustrations and 1 table. "Rapid Communications" will be published in the next issue going to press. Diagnostic Seminars: These papers have a primarily informative character and can be longer than "Original Papers." They are to cover a particular field of histologic or cytologic diagnostics, illustrating the findings with an extensive number of figures and references to the relevant literature. Reviews: This category includes reviews not to exceed 6 pages. They should refer only to the most current and important literature.
5. References
The List of References, including all references mentioned in the text and/or tables, should appear in alphabetical order, numbered consecutively with arabic numbers. Citation in the text is by these numbers, enclosed in brackets and preceeding any punctuation mark. References in the List should follow the accepted scheme:

6. Tables
Tables should be typed double-spaced, each on a separate page. Each table should include a brief specific title and be labeled accordingly.
7. Figures
Drawings and halftones (photographs, photomicrographs, electron microphotographs, or roentgenograms) must be planned to suit the size of the printed page column of 8.5 cm. Electron microscopic figures or combined figures can have the average maximum size of 17.5 x 23.3 cm. Three complete and unmounted copies of the figures must be submitted. Photographs must appear as sharp, high-contrast prints on glossy paper, trimmed at right angles. Any arrows, letters and numbers must be inserted with template rub-on figures. The first author抯 name and figure number must appear on the back of each figure. The extra cost of publishing color figures must be borne by the authors. Concerning further details please contact the editor. A short confirmation accepting the cost should accompany any submission of color figures. Legends should include stains and magnification when applicable, explain any symbols used, and should be printed together on one page.
8. Publication Policies
25 reprints of each paper are supplied free of charge. Orders for additional offprints must be given on the form provided with the proofs. Copyright on all published articles will be held by the Publishers, Urban & Fischer Verlag, Jena.
