This international journal publishes articles on all subjects related to light and electron optics and offers a survey on the state of research and technical development within these fields: -Electron and ion optics -microscopes and spectrometer techniqes -beam optics, geometrical optics, wave optics -imaging and image processing -holography and image formation -image analysis -optical communication and computing -ray optics, quantum optics -design and operation of laser optical systems -laser applications -nonlinear optics -physiological optics -atmospheric optics -wave propagation and transmission in homogeneous and inhomogeneous materials - information optics -optical elements, devices and systems -optical testing techniques -optical properties of materials -photoelectric and optoelectronic devices -optical instruments, and measuring techniques -as well as other related topics. It publishes original papers and short notes on theoretical and experimental research in English. Optik addresses itself especially to scientific and technical working specialists in this field. At the same time it is the official organ of the German Society for Electron Microscopy and the German Society for Applied Optics. |

Instructions to Authors
Copyright Submission of a manuscript implies that the submitted work has not been published before (except as part of a thesis or lecture note or report, or in the form of an abstract); that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors as well as by the authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out; that written permission of copyright holders was obtained by the authors for material used from other copyrighted sources; that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors hand over the transferable copyrights of the accepted manuscript to the publisher; and that the manuscript or parts thereof will thus not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder. Copyrights include, without spatial or timely limitation, the mechanical, electronic and visual reproduction and distribution; electronic storage and retrieval; and all other forms of electronic publication or any other types of publication including all subsidiary rights. General Information Manuscripts should be addressed to the editor or a member of the editorial board. Manuscripts should be submitted in two copies. In addition to the paper version, wich is to be sent obligatorily, authors are requested to submit a disk (3 1/2 inch) with the final version of the text. Format (MS-DOS or Macintosh) and word processing program used for preparing the text should be indicated on the disk. All manuscripts should contain:
1. The heading of the article in English.
2. A short abstract in English.
3. Key words: For each manuscript a maximum of five Key words are required, referring to the special contents of the publication, and not to its methods. The Editor retains the right to change the Key words.
4. For illustrations: The maximum type area is 17 cm (6.7 inch) width and 22.5 cm (8.9 inch) height. Figures must be clearly lettered and suitable for reproduction to fit either one-column width (8.6 cm or 3.39 inch) or two-columns width (17 cm or 6,7 inch); line drawings in black ink. Lettering on drawings or photographs to be inserted by the publishers should be written only on a transparent cover sheet in soft pencil. Figures must be ready for reproduction with clear lettering in suitable size. In addition to the printed version figures can be supplied in digital format (EPS or TIFF format, final resolution 300 dpi for halftones, 1270 dpi for black/white line drawings). The publication of coloured illustrations is possible but the author may be asked for a contribution towards the extra cost.
5. Every illustration should have a caption, listed on a separate sheet.
6. Tables should be prepared so that they can be printed in one column or full page width (see above).Tables should bear consecutive numbers. Please add headings immediately above the tables.
7. Literature references should appear in the text as consecutive numbers between angular brackets, e.g. [3], they should be listed in full at the end of the article. Example for quotations: a) from journals: [3] Block H, Heygster G, Boseck S: Determination of the OTF of a reflection scanning acoustic microscope by a hair crack in glass at different ultrasonic frequencies. Optik 82 (1989) 147-154 b) from books: [3] Cowley JM: Diffration Physics, pp. 185-187. North-Holland Publishing Comp., Amsterdam 1975 [3] Meredit GR: Prospect of New Nonlinear Organic Materials. In Flytzanis C, Oudar JL (Eds.): Nonlinear Optics: Material and Devices, pp. 116-127. Springer Verlag, Berlin 1986
In order to facilitate speedy and correct publication, please send us the final form of your manuscript, carefully typed and ready for printing. Only printer's errors may be corrected in the proofs. Later alterations would have to be published at the end of the article under the heading "Postcript at proof stage". Please take special care with the writing of formulae. There should be clear distinctions between 0 (zero) and o, O (letter o); between 1 (figure one), | (absolute value stroke), and l (letter l); also between n an u, and small k and capital K. Please indicate clearly the positional height of all symbols so that powers and indices can be recognized currently. All formula symbols will be set in sloping type (italics), except for those denoting functions (sin, exp. etc), or units (cm, J. etc.), and abbreviations (max., etc). Any further exceptions should be marked in the text. Vectors will always be set in halfbold type instead of arrows above them.
Reprints Twenty five (25) reprints are supplied free of charge. Additional reprints or issues will be provided against payment.
