Ever since 1946, the journal has been publishing bimonthly issues with articles in French or in English, such as:  1)scientific, technical or economic synthesis  2)articles reviewing original research and achievements  3)review articles summarizing a topic  4)technical notes on a specialized subject or a detailed method. All articles are introduced with a summary in English and in French. The journal covers disciplines and fields related to oil and gas prospecting, production, processing and utilization as well as that of other energy sources. The articles are either based on the scientific and technical activities of the French Petroleum Institute (IFP) or written by engineers, scientists and technicians from around the world. the journal is a publication with a European focus that has already achieved considerable circulation in the United States the articles are indexed in the major bibliographical data bases (CAS, Apilit, Tulsa,Compendex, Current Contents, Georef, Pascal and others) in the Science Citation Index (SCI), it is classified under both Energy & Fuels and Engineering Chemical, and is the only oil and gas industry research journal in the international literature considered by the SCI.
