Instructions to Authors

Dear author,

In order to simplify the procedure of interaction between an author (coauthors) and the publisher we ask you to send agreements on transfer of copyright (in Russian or in English) simultaneously with the manuscript of the article to the editorial board of the journal. The agreement should be sent in duplicate.

This agreement is a contract of adhesion.

We draw your attention to the fact that the agreement enters into force under the condition of acceptance of an article for publication in English. If for any reason your article is refused by the editorial board of the journal, the agreement automatically loses force. The decision on acceptance of an article for publication is the exclusive right of the editorial board of the journal. Signing of the agreement by an author (coauthors) means that the author (coauthors) has acquainted himself (themselves) and agrees (agree) with the conditions of the agreement.

A copyright transfer agreement form can be downloaded at our site:

 Model Author's Agreement Form

The completed and signed agreements may be presented in person or sent to the editorial board of the journal:

by post
by e-mail (PDF file) or fax; the original must be subsequently mailed by post.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Papers submitted to the journal Okeanologiya should meet the following requirements.

Papers should present a concise and clear presentation of the present-day state-of-the-art situation, a description of the methods of the study, and an assessment and discussion of the results obtained by the author. The title of the paper should correspond to its content.

Papers must be submitted in duplicate either in Russian or in English. Submission of a paper implies that the study has not been previously published nor simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere and that its publication has been approved by all the authors and by the responsible authorities of the institutes where the study was carried out. All papers are refereed.

Manuscripts should be typed with double spacing throughout on good-quality A4-size (297 × 210 mm) white paper on one side of the page only with adequate margins; the left-hand margin should equal 25 mm. All the pages should be numbered. Submission of an electronic version of the papers is desirable.

Papers should be not longer than 18 pages including the figures (two figures correspond to one page of typing), figure captions, references, and abstract. Each page should contain 30 lines. Papers less than six pages in length may be considered as Short Notes. The journal also publishes invited papers whose length is determined by the Editorial Board.

Scientific and technical papers should be accompanied by an abstract not longer than 15 lines, the main body of the paper, acknowledgments, and references. No references are to be included in the abstract. In the text, footnotes should be used only if absolutely necessary.

The manuscript should be signed by all of the authors and contain the full address for correspondence including telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses.

MATHEMATICAL EXPRESSIONS

Mathematical symbols and formulas should be typed or accurately written. Standard symbols should be used whenever possible.

Identify unusual mathematical symbols and abbreviations at their first use. Distinguish between capital and lower case, between the letter  and zero (0), and between the letter I and the number 1. Indicate subscripts and superscripts with special signs (∩ and ∪ ). Use “exp” to avoid awkward powers. Greek letters should be underlined in red, and vectors and tensors in blue. Weights and measures should be expressed using the metric system.

Equations should be numbered in a single sequence for text referral and equation numbers should appear in parentheses on the right hand side of the page. If they are too long, split them accordingly.

FIGURES (PHOTOGRAPHS, DIAGRAMS, AND MAPS)

Figures should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are referred to. They should not be included in the manuscript pages. All illustrations should be submitted on separate sheets and identified on the back with their number, the author’s name, and the title of the paper labeled clearly with pencil.

Original clear line drawings or photographs should be about twice the printed size. Drawings should be prepared with Indian ink. Photographs should be large, glossy prints showing high contrast.

Figure captions should be typed on a separate sheet and placed at the end of the manuscript. The amount of lettering on a drawing should be reduced as far as possible by transferring it to the legend. All symbols are to be explained; maps must have a scale.

TABLES

Tables should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and each should be typed on a separate sheet. Units should appear at the top of the column. Tables should replace text not duplicate it.

REFERENCES

References should be denoted in the text by numbers in square brackets and listed with full paper titles at the end of the paper in alphabetical order according to the following example:

1. P. Nielsen, “Entrainment and Distribution of Different Sand Sizes under Water Waves,” J. Sediment. Petrol. 53 (2), 423–428 (1983).

For the general style and format of references, authors are referred to recent issues of Okeanologiya.

Authors of a published paper will receive 25 free reprints of their paper. No manuscripts or figures will be returned following publication unless a request for return of them is made when the manuscript is submitted. If the paper is returned for revision, the revised version should be sent to the editorial board in six months; otherwise, the paper will be regarded as a newcomer.

Manuscripts for publication may be sent to the Editorial Board.
