Instructions to Authors

Notes for the authors
Il Nuovo Cimento is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original contributions reporting results in the fields specified on the cover of the respective sections. Besides regular articles (no general limitation of the overall size) also Note Brevi (short communications) can be submitted and in this case the length should no exceed 6 printed pages, tables and figures included. Note Brevi will be examined directly by the Presidency Council of the Italian Physical Society and, if accepted, will deserve rapid publication. Contribution to Il Nuovo Cimento is open to physicists of all countries, the accepted language being English.

Submission stage
Authors should send their paper by e-mail at the address:

ncb[at]sif.it
at this stage only PDF or PS files are requested.

Exceptionally, for authors who cannot access electronic facilities, we accept hard copies to be sent to:

The Director of Il Nuovo Cimento
Via Saragozza 12
I-40123 Bologna, Italy.
The submission must be accompanied by a message in which publication in Il Nuovo Cimento is explicitly requested, the section (B or C) is specified and the institution or person to be charged for the publication costs EUR 25.00 per printed page) indicated.

Manuscript
Manuscript should be prepared according to the style guide downloadable in this page and must be complete with:

A concise and informative title (a shorthand version for the heading should be provided if it exceeds 70 printed characters, spaces included)
A summary, written in one paragraph, completely self-consistent and summarizing concisely the aim of the paper (not exceeding 200 words)
Up to 4 PACS numbers (Physics and Astronomy Classification Sheme) available at the American Institute of Physics website (www.aip.org/pacs)
A reference list produced strictly adhering to the journal standard and complete in all its parts.
Acceptance stage
An e-mail messge from the Editorial Office will inform the corresponding author that the article has been accepted for publication and at the same time he is asked to submit immediately the electronic version in the final form exactly matching the accepted version, complete in all its parts.

Submission after acceptance
The source file (.tex, .doc) and figure files (.eps, .ps, .tiff, .pdf, .jpg and .png) should be sent to the Editorial Office

via e-mail: use a single compressed file containing an archive of your text and figures and mail it to ncb[at]sif.it. Make sure that your mailing software does automatically encode attached files, otherwise use uuencode to do it manually. In the e-mail message indicate the name of the author, the title and the reference number of the accepted manuscript.
via ftp: use the ftp site ftp.sif.it as anonymous and put your archived, compressed file in the directory incoming/ncb/, send simultaneously an e-mail to the Editorial Office indicating your name, date and reference number of the manuscript sent via ftp.
In both cases good reception and successful processing of the files will be acknowledged.

File formats
The text should be preferentially prepared using LaTeX with cimento class, the package is available here.
Other common variants of TeX files and Word files are also accepted, note that in the latter case the text will be processed and mathematical symbols and equations wil be retyped in LaTeX in the production procedure.
For extended instructions on how to prepare figure files in order to ensure good printability, please refer to the graphic preparation guide available here.

Proofs correction
Once proofs are ready an e-mail message will inform the authors on how to download them through the Italian Physical Society inquiry facility (a guideline for correction is included in the message). Should they meet difficulties following this procedure, the proofs will be immediately sent by e-mail as attached PDF, fax or regular mail according to the author request. Note that the aim of proofreading is to correct errors that might have appeared in the production procedure and not to modify the content of the paper. Once proofs are corrected they must be returned by e-mail (as a detailed list) or by fax. Do not send back correctd manuscript files or altered PDF proof file.

Copyright transfer form
A signed copyright transfer agreement is required before publication, you can either download it here, or use the form you receive with the proofs and send it to the Editorial Office duly filled in.

To reuse material from other publications, either yours or by other author(s), previous premission should be obtained from the respective publisher (copyright holder). For your convenience you can download here a form to be used to this purpose.
To reuse material published in SIF journals, for other publications please refer to the permission request policy.
Reprints
Twenty free reprints are granted against payement of the publication charges. Additional reprints can be ordered by filling in the form received with the proofs. The cost of additional reprints will be invoiced by Societ\`a Italiana di Fisica, Via Saragozza 12, I-40123 Bologna, Italy.
