Instructions to Authors
Papers should be submitted, preferably in electronic form(see below), to either of the Editors-in-Chief of the journal or to a member of the Editorial Board. It is a condition of publication that manuscripts submitted to this journal have not been published and will not be simultaneously submitted or published elsewhere. Authors in Japan please note Upon request, Elsevier Science Japan will provide authors with a list of people who can check and improve the English of their paper (before submission). Please contact our Tokyo office: Elsevier Science Japan, 9-15, Higashi-Azabu 1-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo 106-0044; Japan; Tel. (+81) 3-5561-5032; Fax: (+81) 3-5561-5045; E-mail: info@elsevier.co.jp. The front page should contain: (i) the title, (ii) a running title of up to 40 characters, (iii)authors' addresses and affiliations, (iv) up to four PACS codes (these can be found on the Elsevier Science or AIP homepage:http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/pacs or http://www.aip.org/pacs/pacs.html and up to six keywords (see http://www.noao.edu/apj/keywords96.html), and (v)the author to whom all correspondence should be sent including a Fax number and/or e-mail address where possible. Figure captions should be listed on a separate sheet at the end of the script. Black and white line drawings should be used where possible and must be clearly identified with their number and the authors' name on the back. Half-tones in black and white are acceptable, but should be kept to a minimum. Note that all original artwork will be destroyed one month after publication unless the corresponding author specifically requests its return. Each table should be typed, with a caption, on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript. Authors may also supply their illustrations in electronic format which will be used wherever possible. References References in the text are indicated by name and date, and the full reference should be given in an alphabetical list at the end of the paper.
Submission in Electronic Form
New Astronomy Reviews is a predominantly LATEX journal but authors may submit accepted manuscripts in either LATEX or a word processing format. Manuscripts can be submitted on a 3.5 inch or 5.25 inch disk which must be clearly marked with the following information: (i) operating system, (ii) disk format (e.g. DS/DD), (iii) word processor used, including version number, (iv) authors' names, and (v) short title of article. The final, accepted version of a paper may be submitted directly to the production editor by e-mail. Authors may submit their articles on disk using LATEX and the Elsevier preprint style. The "elsart" preprint style is available in two forms, one for the old LATEX 2.09 format, and the other for the new standard LATEX. Its use is described in the full instructions for Authors (in the journal). This, and the style files themselves, can be obtained from Elsevier, or from the Internet Comprehensive TEX Archive sites using anonymous ftp: the main CTAN sites are ftp.shsu.edu, ftp.dante.de and ftp.tex.ac.uk and the files are in the directory tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/elsevier. A hard copy version of the whole text must accompany the disk.In the event of differences between disk and hard copy, the hard copy will be considered as the definitive version. Copyright All authors must sign the Transfer of Copyright agreement before the article can be published. This transfer agreement enables Elsevier Science B.V. to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the authors' proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microform or any other reproductions of similar nature and translation, and includes the right to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs, including reproduction or publication in machine-readable form and incorporation in retrieval systems. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce any figures for which copyright exists. Proofs Proofs will be despatched to the first-named author, unless otherwise requested. In order to guarantee the fastest possible production times, the proofs must be returned within 48 hours after receipt, preferably by fax. Corrections to the proofs must be restricted to printer's errors only. Any substantial changes other than these will be charged to the author. Please note that authors are urged to check their proofs carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections to any article cannot be guaranteed. Reprints and copies of the issue (at a specially reduced rate) can be ordered on the form which will accompany the proofs.
