The journal is concerned with neural and men tal disorders and their relations to fundamental pro cesses. It brings together clinical and basic research, neurology and psychiatry, physiology and therapy in a cooperative way. There are original research reports, short communications, analytic reviews, meeting pro ceedings and book reviews. The review process avoids anonymous referees in order to protect original ideas. Instructions to Authors
NEUROLOGY, PSYCHIATRY AND BRAIN RESEARCH (NPBR) publishes original full papers, short communations, letters and review articles on research in neurology, biologically oriented psychiatry and the neurosciences. No manuscripts should be submitted that have been published previously, except in the form of an abstract. All contributions must be of scientific value, objective, concise and be written in good English. The editors recommend that all authors examine the content and style of their paper carefully and check everything again a few weeks later; furthermore they should ask qualified scientists to suggest improvements.
Important: To compile and edit the manuscript it is obligatory to use a personal computer in order to produce a data carrier. The diskette (format 3,5") must be sent together with the manuscript. Give the journal (NPBR), the authors, title of the paper, manufacturer of the text processing system (e. g., IBM), type of model, operating system and a list of the codes, which you have used. The program to be prefered is Word for Windows (ASCII-Code without any commands for lines etc.). Please keep a copy of the diskette and the hard copy for yourself.
Full papers should not exceed 20 typewritten pages averaging 30 lines per page and 60 typewriter strokes per line and should notinclude more than 8 figures. Reviews should not exceed 25 typewritten pages, short communications four, letters two pages. There will be an extra charge for unusually long papers. Important: The manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate. The papers must be typed in doubleline spacing, with wide margins and on one side of the paper only. It must be in final form.
The title page should include the title of the paper, first and last name(s) of the author(s), institution, key words (up to 8), and the address of the author to whom correspondence may be sent. In the introduction the subject matter should be outlined in a few sentences, and earlier work should be referred to in short. Papers and reviews should begin with a summary, not longer than 400 words (short communication 200 words). The methods should be clearly stated but in great detail only in cases of an innovation. Citations in the text should be by numerals in brackets referring to the reference list. References are to be listed in double-line spacing at the end in alphabetical order under the first author`s name.

Tables should be submitted on separate sheets. The tables are numbered and should have a title. Footnotes may be used in the tables but not in the text. Data in tables should not duplicate graphs. The number and size of the figures should not exceed the minimum required for clarification. Previously published figures should not be repeated. Figures should be numbered consecutively and submitted on separate sheets. The number and the authors name should be written with pencil on the back. Micrographs should carry a magnification bar. Good-quality line drawings should be submitted as glossy prints in the desired final size (up to 7 x 10 cm - column wide, or up to 16 x 21 cm - page size). Half-tone illustrations should be well-contrasted photographic prints of the desired final size. There will be an extra charge for half-tone figures and color figures. The position of figures and tables should be indicated in the margin of the manuscript. The legends should be sufficient to give a basic understanding of the figure without the text. Abbreviations for scientific units should conform to the international system.
Fifty offprints of the article are supplied free of charge. Additional copies are available, if the order is received with the corrected proofs. Galley proofs are sent to the first author and should be returned with least possible delay. There will be no page proofs.
