About the journal
Nephron Experimental Nephrology is a subjournal of Nephron with its own citation and index.
Formerly a journal in its own right called 'Experimental Nephrology', Nephron Experimental Nephrology specialises in the publication of high-quality, original research and reviews in the area of renal cell and developmental biology and functional genomics. The emphasis is on the normal biology of the kidney in vivo and in vitro as well as on the impact of disease on biological processes. Nephron Experimental Nephrology is of relevance to adult and paediatric nephrologists, as well as those interested in the scientific basis of the affiliated fields of histopathology, genetics, urology, transplantation and fetal medicine. Scientists working in the fields of developmental molecular biology and immunology will also find Nephron Experimental Nephrology of interest.
Please note that Nephron Experimental Nephrology is accessible as a separate online edition by personal subscription only. For subscription details use the link 'Subscription' on this page. There is no separate printed equivalent. All articles in this section are available in print as part of Nephron.

Invitation for Papers
Original papers and reviews written in English will be considered. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to: nephron@ucl.ac.uk
'Nephron' is listed in bibliographical services, including Current Contents/Life Sciences, Index Medicus/MEDLINE, Reference Update, Excerpta Medica, Biological Abstracts.
Instructions to Authors
Apart from high-quality, original research Nephron publishes minireviews on topics of current interest which are designed to update, to inform clinical practitioners and to provide an educational forum. Clinical physiology, fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and urinary tract function are all embraced. In addition, highlights and editorial comments are a regular feature which serve to provide a balance and insight to the practising clinician and to the well-focused scientist.

Nephron Clinical Practice features up-to-date, high-quality research and opinions on all aspects of clinical nephrology, dialysis and transplantation. Original articles report on innovative clinical studies and patient-based experimental work which has immediate relevance to clinical practice. Comment and Analysis provides expert opinion and a critical comment on selected original articles. Minireviews provide succinct, topical reviews of key issues in clinical practice:
· 'Current Practice' explores the management of specific renal diseases
· 'Therapeutic Advances' focuses on newly introduced drugs and their therapeutic potential
· 'From Laboratory to Clinic' examines how recent experimental evidence impacts on clinical practice
· 'On the Horizon' looks to the future and analyses forthcoming advances in renal medicine

Nephron Physiology covers the broad field of cellular and integrative function of the kidney and urinary tract in health and disease. For the first time, renal and urinary tract function are brought together in scientific terms in order to bridge the basic sciences relevant to medicine, nephrology and urology. Nephron Physiology covers both normal physiology and pathophysiology of the kidney and serves as a vehicle for advancing knowledge on functional mechanisms of disease.
Submission
Manuscripts for Nephron Clinical Practice, Nephron Experimental Nephrology and Nephron Physiology should be submitted electronically to: nephron@ucl.ac.uk
Only papers written in English are considered. For technical specifications refer to www.karger.com/services/disksub.asp.

Conditions
All manuscripts are subject to independent and editorial review. Manuscripts are received with the explicit understanding that they are not under simultaneous consideration by any other publication. Submission of an article for publication implies the transfer of the copyright from the author to the publisher upon acceptance. Accepted papers become the permanent property of ‘The Nephron Journals’ and may not be reproduced by any means, in whole or in part, without the written consent of the publisher. It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce illustrations, tables, etc. from other publications.
Arrangement
All pages should be numbered consecutively and carry the author's name in the upper right corner.
Title page: The first page of each paper should indicate the title, the authors' names, the institute where the work was conducted, and a short title for use as running head.
Full address: The exact postal address of the corresponding author complete with postal code must be given at the bottom of the title page. Please also supply phone and fax numbers, as well as e-mail address.
Units: ‘The Nephron Journals’ requires that all articles be submitted with data in SI units and gravimetric units.
Key words: For indexing purposes, a list of 3?0 key words in English is essential.
Abstract: Each paper needs an abstract of up to 200 words. It should be structured as follows: Background/Aims: What is the major problem that prompted the study? Methods: How was the study carried out? Results: Most important findings? Conclusion: Most important conclusion?
Footnotes: Avoid footnotes. When essential, they are numbered consecutively and placed at the foot of the appropriate page.
Tables and illustrations: Tables are part of the text. Place them at the end of the text file. Illustration data must be stored as separate files. Do not integrate figures into text.

Material submitted for publication but not yet accepted should be noted as ‘unpublished data’ and not be included in the reference list. The list of references should include only those publications which are cited in the text. Number references in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text; do not list alphabetically. The surnames of the authors followed by initials should be given. There should be no punctuation other than a comma to separate the authors. Preferably, please cite all authors. Abbreviate journal names according to the Index Medicus system. (Also see International Committee of Medical Journal Editors: Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals. N Engl J Med 1997;336:309?15.)
