About the journal
Minerals Engineering
The purpose of the journal is to provide for the rapid publication of topical papers featuring practical developments in the allied fields of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. Its wide ranging coverage of research and practical (operating) topics includes physical separation methods, such as comminution, flotation concentration and dewatering, chemical methods such as bio-, hydro-, and electro-metallurgy, analytical techniques, process control, simulation and instrumentation, and mineralogical aspects of processing. All aspects of the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, non-metallic minerals and coal are authoritatively featured. Papers accepted will be those of strong practical content dealing with research and development in these fields, and short technical notes will be especially favoured. Reviews of specific subject areas and papers describing developments in operating processing plants are also actively sought.

Audience: Mineral engineers in production, research and development. Mineral processors and extractive metallurgists.

Instructions to Authors
1. Submission of papers. Manuscripts for publication should be sent directly to the Editor, either:
a. by e-mail, to bwills@min-eng.com, as a single, zipped file, containing the text and figures. Multiple files will not be accepted. Should your zipped file exceed 300KB in size, please send your manuscript by option b;
b. by mail, as hard copy in triplicate, or on disc or CD-ROM as a single file containing the text and figures. Please supply your e-mail address.
Only original material will be considered; submission of a manuscript implies that the work has not been previously published and that it is not being simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. The authors must agree not to publish elsewhere once it has been accepted for publication in Minerals Engineering. Publication will be in English.
2. Style of manuscript. Manuscripts, which should not normally exceed 10,000 words (each figure and table should be counted as 250 words), should be prepared according to the following order. Authors should refer to typical papers published in recent issues of the journal for the exact format required.
- Title
- Names and addresses of authors, with e-mail address of corresponding author
- Abstract- 100-200 words giving clear indication of the nature and range of the results contained in the paper
- Body- to contain primary message with clear lines of thought and mathematical expressions
- Conclusions- to indicate significant contribution with its limitations, advantages and possible applications
- Acknowledgements- when appropriate
- Appendices
- References
At this stage the manuscript should be typed in double spacing throughout, to allow for editing comments, and all pages should be numbered consecutively. All main headings should be in upper case, bold and centred. Sub-headings should be in lower case, left-justified, and bold.
3. Units. IUGS or SI units should be used throughout.
4. Mathematical Expressions. Particular care should be exercised in identifying mathematical symbols used. All non-standard abbreviations or symbols should be identified when first mentioned. Care should be taken in ensuring that superscripts and subscripts are clear. Equations must be left-justified and the equation number right-justified in parentheses, ( ). The word "Equation(s)" should appear in full at the beginning of sentences, but as the abbreviation Eq(s). elsewhere.
5. Illustrations. Photographs and diagrams are to be referred to as "Figure(s)", and should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are referred to. Brief captions should be provided to make the figures as informative as possible. Tables should similarly be numbered consecutively. If electronic figures and tables have not been produced, then good quality originals will be needed, suitable for direct reproduction. The figure or table number should be clearly written on the back of the sheet, with the top of the diagram clearly marked if there could be uncertainty as to orientation. Photographs should be glossy black and white prints (colour reproduction costs are high and will be charged to the author). Each print should have, lightly written on the back, the author's name, the figure number, and an indication as to which is the top of the photograph. Scale should be indicated in the case of photomicrographs.
6. References. References in the text should appear with the name of the author(s) (without initial), followed by the publication date in parentheses. If reference is made in the text to publications written by more than two authors the name of the first author should be used, followed by "et al". This indication, however, should never be used in the list of references. In this list, names of authors and all co-authors should be mentioned instead. The reference list should be in alphabetical order. Names of periodicals should be written out in full. Examples of style follow.

7. Peer-review. On receipt of your manuscript, copies will be sent to two members of the Editorial Board for refereeing. If revision of the paper is recommended, copies of the referees' reports will be forwarded to the principal author. Revised papers must be returned to the Editor within 6 months, otherwise the paper will be regarded as a new submission.
8. Submission of electronic text. On acceptance of the paper, an exact copy of the final accepted manuscript will be required electronically. IBM-compatible MS-Word software is preferred, and exact details of the required format of the file can be found athttp://authors.elsevier.com.
9. Reprints. 25 reprints will be supplied free of charge to the principal author of the paper. Additional reprints may be ordered on the reprint order form which will be supplied with publication details of the accepted paper. There are no mandatory page charges.
10. Permission. All authors must sign the Transfer of Copyright agreement supplied before the paper can be published. This transfer agreement enables Elsevier Science Ltd to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the author's proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the paper, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microform or any other reproductions of similar nature and translations, and includes the right to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs, including reproduction or publication in machine-readable form and incorporation in retrieval systems. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce any figures for which copyright exists.
Author Services Authors can also keep a track on the progress of their accepted article, and set up e-mail alerts informing them of changesto their manuscript's status, by using the 'Track a Paper' feature of Elsevier's Author Gateway.
