About the journal
Microbial Drug Resistance: Mechanisms, Epidemiology, and Disease
|
The powerful emergence and global spread of antibiotic resistant microbial pathogens and resistance genes in the 1990s presents challenges to a wide range of disciplines - from the molecular biology of resistance mechanisms, virulence genes, and disease through molecular epidemiology all the way to drug design, infection control, and medical practice. This international journal provides a multidisciplinary forum for peer-reviewed original publications as well as topical reviews and special reports.

Instructions to Authors
Microbial Drug Resistance: Mechanisms, Epidemiology, and Disease, will publish original peer-review papers, reviews, short communications, and other information from all sectors of the scientific and public health community which cover the most pressing issues in the field.
Address manuscripts to the Editor: Alexander Tomasz, Ph.D., The Rockefeller University, Laboratory of Microbiology, 1230 York Ave., New York, NY 10021-6399. Telephone: (212) 327-8277; fax: (212) 327-8688. e-mail: tomasz@mail.rockefeller.edu
PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT
Type the entire manuscript (including figure legends, tables, and references) double spaced on regular typewriter paper, not erasable bond. Leave margins on both sides and top and bottom of at least 11/2 inches. Submit an original manuscript and two copies, each with a set of original illustrations.
On the first page, give the title of the paper, name(s) of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), and the name and complete address, phone and fax numbers of the corresponding author. Also supply a running title of no more than 45 characters. On the second page, supply an abstract of about 200 words, stating the aims, results, and conclusions drawn from the study. Following this, please include the introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, references, tables, and figure legends. Results and Discussion should be separate sections. Number pages consecutively; the first author's last name should appear on each page. Authors should review the style and clarity of their manuscripts with colleagues before submission. Please follow this protocol to avoid delay in publication. Authors should note that manuscripts may be edited if needed for grammar and usage.
TABLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS
Use Arabic numerals to number tables. Do not repeat information that is given in the text, and do not make a table for data that can be given in the text in one or two sentences.
Original glossy photographs for all illustrations must be supplied with the manuscript. (Photocopies will not be accepted.) All illustrations should be numbered and labeled with the first author's name on the back. The top of the illustration should be indicated. A legend should be supplied for each illustration, and all legends numbered consecutively and typed (double spaced) on a separate page. Figures should be numbered in the order cited in the text. A complete set should be submitted with each copy of the manuscript.
The Journal will publish color photographs, but the cost must be borne by the author. For further details, contact the Publisher.
REFERENCES
All references must be cited in the text using a superscript Arabic number. Arrange the reference list in alphabetical order by first author and then number consecutively. Abbreviate journal names according to Serial Sources for the BIOSIS Data Base (BioSciences Information Service, 1992). Use the following format:
Journal papers:
De Lencastre, H., M. Chung, and H. Westh. 2000. Archaic strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus: molecular and microbiological properties of isolates from the 1960s in Denmark. Microb. Drug Resist. 6:1-10.
Chapter in a book:
Tomasz, A. 1990. Auxiliary genes assisting in the expression of methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus. In R.P. Skurray and R.A. Novick (ed.), Molecular biology of the staphylococci. VCH Publishers, New York, pp. 565-583.
When dates from an unpublished source are given, supply the researcher's name. If work is in press, give journal in which it is to be published.
PERMISSIONS
The author must obtain permission to reproduce figures, tables, and text from previously published material. Written permission must be obtained from the original copyright holder (generally the publisher, not the author or editor) of the journal or book concerned. An appropriate credit line should be included in the figure legend or table footnote, and full publication information should be included in the reference list. Written permission must be obtained from the author of any unpublished material cited from other laboratories. All permissions listings must be shown in the manuscript梩hey cannot be entered on proofs.
Manuscripts submitted to this Journal must not be under consideration elsewhere.
REPRINTS
Reprints may be ordered by using the special reprint order form which accompanies the proofs. Reprints ordered after the issue is printed will be charged a substantially higher rate.
