Instructions to Authors
Materials Performance is constantly searching for quality corrosion prevention and control information. Voluntary article submissions are encouraged. Please refer to the editorial calendar for specific monthly topics.
Types of Articles The following types of articles are sought:
Technical Articles should (1) describe a new or improved means of solving a corrosion problem; (2) describe a field or failure analysis that illustrates the rationale in materials selection or control methods; and/or (3) correlate and summarize previously published information to emphasize its value in solving a practical problem. (Technical articles should not be more than eight double-spaced pages of text.)
Case Histories summarize a field experience (two to eight pages) and include descriptions of the specific setting, the problems involved, the remedies selected and the reasons for their selection, and the outcome.
Educational Articles are brief announcements (one to three pages) of significant new findings, or reviews of preliminary results from works in progress.
Editorials/Viewpoints distinctively address a specifictopic in the Editorial Calendar and succinctly express the reader's opinion or experience regarding industry or technology (two pages).
Guidelines for Submitting Articles Using the following guidelines will improve and tailor articles for MP. Author's Guides are available from NACE International Headquarters.
- Authors must submit original, typewritten, double-spaced manuscripts with original figures, plus two photocopies and an IBM-compatible diskette that contains the manuscript in WordPerfect, MSWord, or ASCII. The manuscript must include a three-to four-sentence abstract. All technical articles considered for publication will be reviewed by two or more individuals who are knowledgeable of the subject.
- Figures, tables, and photographs must contribute to the readers' understanding of a concept or idea. One complete set of original, professional-quality photographs (glossy black-and-white or four color) and line art is required.
- All measurements must be noted in metric-the International System of Units. Specific reference to previously published work, including standards, must be denoted within the article and listed in NACE style in the references. Draft standards may not be mentioned in references. Generic terms must be used whenever possible. All trade names must be properly identified. Alloy designations must include generic descriptions and UNS numbers.
- The name of the author's employer should not be mentioned in the text or figures more than once.
- Authors must notify NACE in their letters of submission if any portion of an article has been published previously. Full references and documentation of permission to use such material must be submitted with the manuscript.
Guidelines for Submitting Cover Photos
- Distinguished, high-quality four-color photographs, especially those pertaining to the themes in the editorial calendar, will be considered for the cover MP. "Action" photos or scenes of an application of a corrosion prevention method are preferred.
- Company and product names must not be visible.
- Brochures and color photo copies will not be considered. Slides or transparencies are acceptable, but must be accompanied by prints.
- Photos must be accompanied by a detailed caption. Selected photos also will be featured on the magazine's table of contents with a standard credit line.
- There are no charges for publication nor payments made for accepted articles or photographs. Courtesy copies of MP are provided for published material, and reprints are available for a nominal fee.
- To be considered for a specific MP issue, articles should be submitted six months in advance of publication of that issue.
