About the journal
I. Introduction
The Genetics Society of Korea (GSK) was founded in 1979 to promote the field of genetics and to advance our understanding of genetics at all levels. For this purpose, we foster excellence in research and education in genetics, and we provide information for the public on relevant topics in genetics. Most importantly, we provide a communication hub for all genetics biologists. The GSK publishes Korean Journal of Genetics, organizes scientific meetings and symposia, and encourages researchers by means of academic awards.
The Korean Journal of Genetics is devoted to the research in genetics or in any field of primary genetic interest. The journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded.
GSK has been extending its activities by establishing programs to train young scientists on the genetic experiments and by publishing books related with genetics and experiment.

Instructions to Authors

Instructions to Contributors

Korean Journal of Genetics accepts contributions that present the results of original research in genetics and related scientific disciplines. Although Korean Journal of Genetics is an official publication of The Genetics Society of Korea, membership in the Society is not required of contributors. Corresponding author should submit an approval sheet for publication from all coauthors.

Currently, the Online submission of manuscripts is strongly encouraged, which system is available at http://www.kgenetics.or.kr. Prepare the text in Microsoft Word 6.0 or a later version. Graphics only saved as TIFF or JPEG files will be accepted. Authors may submit manuscripts as hard copies and further instructions are given.

Preparation of Manuscript

Manuscripts should be written in English. Each paper should be submitted in three complete copies typewritten, printed or photocopied without blemish on one side of A4 or letter size paper with a margin of at least 2.5 cm wide on all four edges.
Double-space throughout, including references, tables, figure legends, as well as the abstract and the text of the paper. Number all pages consecutively beginning with the cover page.
Start on a separate page each of the following: cover page, running title page, abstract, body of text from introduction to discussion, references, tables, legends for figures, and figures.

Organization of Manuscript

Cover page: The cover page should provide the title, names of the authors and their institutional affiliations with concise addresses. The title should be compact and informative; the organism used in the study should generally be included. If different authors have different affiliations, these should be run together using 1, 2 and 3 to link multiple authors with their different affiliations.

Running Title Page: This should provide a running title (not to exceed 50 characters and spaces), number of pages, number of figures, number of tables, and the name, mailing address, telephone and FAX numbers of the corresponding author and the source of grant funded.

Abstract: The abstract should consist of a single paragraph, preferably not longer than 250 words, giving a summary of the subject. Do not cite references in the abstract.

Key Words: A list of key words not more than 7 words may be included below the Abstract. This will be compiled for the subject index after completion of each volume.

Text: The text should follow the abstract with repagination. Subdivisions of the text including acknowledgement need not begin on new pages. Only three levels of heads should be used in the text of an article.
The first level is "centered, bold-face full caps", as in RESULTS. The second level is "flush-left, bold-face word-starting caps", as in Fungal Strains and Growth Conditions. The third level is "paragraph-initiating italicized, followed by a colon", as in Mitotic recombination and mutagenesis: ....... Do not number all heads. When using symbols that are normally italicized, such as binomial names, genotypes, chromosomes and the first three letters of the names of restriction nuclease sites use italic rather than underline (e.g., Drosophila melanogaster, N. crassa, white, HindIII, etc...). Non-standard abbreviations should be introduced by placing the abbreviation in parentheses after the first occurrence of the term being abbreviated. Indicate the desired locations of tables and figures by marginal notes.

INTRODUCTION: The introduction should state the purpose of the research and its relation to other work in the same or related field.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: This section should be brief but adequate to allow a qualified investigator to repeat the research. Reference should be made to published procedures wherever possible; this applies to both the original description and pertinent published modifications.

RESULTS: This section should be as concise as possible. Avoid presenting essentially similar data in both table and figure form. Limit photographs unless those are absolutely necessary to show the experimental findings. Number figures and tables in the order of citation in the text.

DISCUSSION: The discussion section should include a brief statement of the principal findings, a discussion of the validity of the observations, a discussion of the findings in light of other published work dealing with the same or closely related subjects, and a statement of the possible significance of the work.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Personal acknowledgement should be as concise as possible.

REFERENCES: This section should start with repagination. References should be cited in the text as follows: "The procedure used has been described elsewhere (Green and Black, 1991, 1992; Kim, 1993)," or "Our results are in agreement with those of Haugland and Wu (1985) and of Singh et al. (1994)," or multiple references in chronological order: "Previous reports (Brown and White, 1989; Montana et al., 1990; Engel, 1994).....". Each listed reference should be cited in text, and each text citation should be listed in the reference section. The list of references should be typed in double-spaced in alphabetical order according to the name of the first author. In two-author papers with the same first author, the order is alphabetical by the second author's name. In three-or-more-author papers with the same first author, the order is chronological. The name of the author(s) should be followed by the year, the full title of the paper together with the source of the reference, the volume number, and the first and last pages. The following illustrates the form to be used:
(Journal article)

Yanofsky C, Horn V, Bonner MF and Stasiowski SD (1971) Polarity and enzyme function in mutants of the first three genes of the tryptophan operon of Escherichia coli.
Genetics 69: 409-433.
(Book)

Ashburner MA (1989) Drosophila: A Laboratory Handbook. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, 1331 pp.
(Chapter in a book)

Timberlake WE (1991) Cloning and analysis of fungal genes. In More Gene Manipulations in Fungi, J.R. Bennett and L.K. Lasure, eds., Academic Press, Orlando, FL, pp. 51-85.

Submitting Manuscripts on Disk.
Authors are required to submit a disk containing the final version of their manuscript.
The disk should be labeled with the date, the first author's name, the file name and the software used. The 3.5-inch disk size is preferred. All sections of the paper except tables should be in a single file.

Preparation of Tables.
Do not present tabular data as part of the text; prepare such data instead as numbered tables. Each table should be typed on a separate page and should bear a concise title. Use double spacing, especially in the boxheads. Tables should be arranged to conform to printed page size (14.0 cm wide) and very wide tables should be typed sideways. Number tables consecutively with Arabic numerals. Define the boxhead and the bottom of the table with horizontal lines. Use shorter horizontal lines within the boxhead to indicate unambiguously which subheads are subordinate to a higher-level heading. Vertical and diagonal lines should not be set in type. Table footnotes should be typed with lower case directly below the table. *, **, and *** may be used to indicate conventional levels of statistical significance but should also be explained below the table. Lower case superscript, 'a, b, c.....' can be also used to explain the specific terminology or experimental conditions.

Figures.
The figures accompanying a manuscript should be the exact size they are to appear in the Journal. Specifically, figures should not exceed 14.0 X 20.0 cm. All figures must be refered to in the text and should be numbered consecutively. Photographs must be on white glossy paper. Half-tones should be high-contrast with sharp detail; some loss of detail and contrast is inevitable in the printing process. Color photographs cost extra expense to authors.
A complete set of figures, preferably on sheets of the same size as the text, should be attached to each copy of the manuscript for the convenience of the reviewers. Copies of photograph considered unsuitable for review will be returned to the author for correction.
One set of top quality figures is needed for the printer; this set (labeled 'original printer's copy') should be mounted onto appropriate mounting card.

Figure Legends.
Each figures should be accompanied by a title and an explanatory legend. The title should be a part of the legend and not lettered on the figure itself. Legends should include sufficient detail to make them intelligible without reference to the text and should explain all labels used in the figure art.

Charges to the Author.
Current page charges are 60 U.S. dollars ($60) for the first 4 printed pages and $15 per page thereafter. Fifty reprints will be supplied free of charge. Additional reprints may be purchased at cost if ordered before printing. An author will be expected to pay extra costs of color plates or special processing where required for data presentation. All charges normally will be billed prior to printing.
