About the journal

The Journal of Supercomputing

The Journal of Supercomputing is an archival technical journal publishing theoretical, practical, tutorial and survey papers on all aspects of supercomputing. The papers published generally fall into areas such as technology, architecture and systems, algorithms, languages and programs, performance measures and methods, and applications. The tutorial and survey papers are intended for workers and students in the fields associated with and employing advanced computer systems. Letters to the Editor are also published, especially in areas relating to policy, succinct statements of paradoxes, intuitively puzzling results, partial results and real needs.
The theoretical and practical papers in specific areas are advanced, in-depth treatments describing new developments and new ideas. Each such paper contains an introduction summarizing prior, directly pertinent work that is useful for the reader to understand, in order to appreciate the advances being described.

Instructions to Authors

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Five hard copies of the manuscript should be sent to Michelle Misner, Journals Editorial Office, Kluwer Academic Publishers, 101 Philip Drive, Norwell, MA 02061. Telephone: 781-871-6600; Fax: 781-878-0449; E-mail: Michelle.Misner@wkap.com

Any paper accepted for review is assumed to represent original work that has neither been previously published nor is being considered elsewhere. Authors may submit papers that have been previously published in a form of a preliminary draft as long as the editor-in-chief is notified at the time of submission; such papers are expected to describe significant additional research results.

ELECTRONIC DELIVERY

Please send only the electronic version (of ACCEPTED paper) via one of the methods listed below. Note, in the event of minor discrepancies between the electronic version and the hard copy, the electronic file will be used as the final version.

The Kluwer LaTeX journal style file is no longer the preferred format for accepted paper submissions. Kluwer will accept any format for accepted paper submissions.

Via electronic mail

  1. Please e-mail electronic version to: KAPfiles@wkap.com
  2. Recommended formats for sending files via e-mail:
    • Binary files - uuencode or binhex
    • Compressing files - compress, pkzip, or gzip
    • collecting files - tar
  3. The e-mail message should include the author憇 last name, the name of the journal to which the paper has been accepted, and the type of file (e.g., LaTeX or ASCII).

Via anonymous FTP

ftp: ftp.wkap.com
cd: /incoming/production

Send e-mail to KAPfiles@wkap.com to inform Kluwer electronic version is at this FTP site.

Via disk

  1. Label a 3.5 inch floppy disk with the operating system and word processing program along with the authors?names, manuscript title, and name of journal to which the paper has been accepted.
  2. Mail disk to:
    Kluwer Academic Publishers
    Desktop Department
    101 Philip Drive
    Assinippi Park

Any questions about the above procedures please send e-mail to: dthelp@wkap.com

We hope that these electronic procedures will encourage the submission of manuscripts to this journal as well as improve the publication schedule.

MANUSCRIPT FORMAT

Each paper should be accompanied by a cover letter that includes the corresponding author憇 full address, including a phone number, fax number, and e-mail address. The title page of the paper should include each author憇 full address; a concise, informative abstract of 250 words or less; and five to ten keywords. The entire manuscript, including the references and table and figure captions, should be typed double-spaced, with one-inch margins, on only one side of a page (8 1/2 x 11 inches). Footnotes may be used, although sparingly. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to submit a black-and-white publicity or passport photograph along with a technical biography of 70 words or less. These items should be provided promptly upon notification of acceptance.

Figures and Illustrations:Photocopies of figures are acceptable for papers submitted for review. However, the final version of an accepted paper must include camera-ready figures and diagrams that are sufficiently high in quality to meet the requirements for direct reproduction. The maximum submission size for figures is 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches, and all lettering should be sufficiently large to take reduction. Each figure must appear on a separate sheet and be clearly labeled on the back, preferably with a soft pencil, with the author憇 name and the figure number. The consecutively numbered captions should be typed on a separate sheet. The first mention of a figure or a table should be indicated in the left margin.

Tables:Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and typed on a separate sheet, with the caption at the top of the table. Footnotes are designated with lowercase superscript letters. The use of vertical rules in tables is generally discouraged.

Mathematical notation:Mathematical copy should be typed or marked exactly as it should appear in print. Journal style for letter symbols is as follows: variables, italic type (indicated by underline); constants, roman text type; matrices and vectors, boldface type (indicated by wavy underline). In word processor manuscripts, appropriate typeface should be used. It will be assumed that letters in displayed equations are to be set in italic type unless marked otherwise. All letter symbols in text discussion must be marked if they are to be italic or boldface. Best breaks for equations must be indicated in case they do not fit on one line. Numbers for displayed equations should appear in parentheses flush with the right margin. Authors should bear in mind that some letter symbols, such as the letter v and the Greek nu and the letter l and the numeral 1, can be easily confused, even in typeset manner. It may be advisable to avoid the use of such letter symbols whenever possible.

References:Only published works or works in press should be cited in the references. Unpublished results or personal communications should be identified as such in the body of the paper. References should be appear in a separately numbered bibliography at the end of the manuscript; textual citations are indicated by numerals in square brackets. The references, which should be complete, should be formatted as follows (in electronic submissions authors should use the BIBTEX default):

  • Books:Each author憇 initials and surname; the title, in italics; the publisher, city, and state (no zip abbreviations); and the year of publication, as shown in the sample below:
  1. A. Nijenhuis and H. S. Wilf. Combinatorial Algorithms for Computers and Calculators,2nd ed. Academic Press, Orlando, Fla., 1978.
  • Journal article:The initial(s) and surname(s) of the author(s); the title of the article; the journal title, in italics; the volume number, inclusive page numbers, and year of publication.

Pocek, eds., IEEE Workshop on FPGAs for Custom Computing Machines,pp. 164-172. IEEE Computer Society Press. Los Alamitos, Calif., 1994.
  • Technical report/thesis or dissertation:Entries should include the name and location of the institution, as shown below:
