About the journal

The journal - which was launched in 1972 - has an interdisciplinary orientation and affords a forum as an interface for disciplines ranging from musicology (music theory, aesthetics, sociology), psychology (from psychoacoustics to cognitive psychology - with emphasis on modelling), information sciences (from sound engineering to artificial intelligence), philosophy (epistemology and methodology) and brain sciences. The emphasis is on an interdisciplinary foundation for music by means of the most advanced technologies.
Major issues in the journal covered are: automated composition; Artificial Intelligence and music; digital sound analysis, processing and synthesis; interactive systems; multimedia systems; auditive perception and cognition; cognitive musicology; music analysis |

Instructions to Authors Formatting your manuscript It could speed up the publication process of your article when you would make use of our journal article template. With this template you can format your document with fixed styles for the various text elements. You can also adjust existing tables with it, or create new tables in a standard format. Please click on the icon below and the template will be installed automatically on your PC. The zip-file also contains a short manual that will show you how to work with it.
Proofing procedure Authors of accepted papers are responsible for proofreading. They will receive the proofs both in hardcopy as well as in electronic file (pdf) and must return the proofs without delay. Proofs can be returned by air mail and/or fax, but in case of fewer corrections they can also be returned by e-mail. Corrections to proofs must be restricted to printer's errors. Other corrections may be charged to the author.
Copyright and permissions It is a condition of publication in this Journal that authors assign copyright to Swets & Zeitlinger Publishers. This ensures that requests from third parties to reproduce articles are handled efficiently and consistently and will also allow the article to be as widely disseminated as possible. In assigning copyright, authors may use their own material in other publications provided that this Journal is acknowledged as the original place of publication. Therefore the Manuscript should be accompanied by a signed Consent to Publish form . Please note that your manuscript can only be taken into production once the signed form has been received. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain written permission for a quotation from unpublished material, or for all quations in excess of 250 words in one extract or 500 words in total from any work still in copyright, and for the reprinting of illustrations or tables from unpublished or copyright material. Submission of a paper to this Journal implies that it has not been published before and that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

submissions@swets.nl Please clearly mention "JNMR" in the subject line or message body. Each submission should be accompanied by a signed Consent to Publish form . All papers will be reviewed by a minimum of two referees.
Guidelines for manuscripts accepted for publication : Do not submit your article in ASCII , Postscript or Works.
- Submit your article in a frequently used word processing package under operating systems MS Dos, Windows or Apple Macintosh.
- Name files using Dos conventions (8 characters, dot, 3 characters). For example: figure1.eps
- Make sure that the correct version of the manuscript is submitted for processing (original, revision, final manuscript).
- Always retain a backup copy of your manuscript (both digital and on hardcopy).
