1. GENERAL
The relevance of paper for publication in the JOURNAL OF NEW MATERIALS FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL SYSTEMS should be made clear in both the covering letter and the manuscript.
The content of the submitted manuscripts must fall within the scope of the Journal. Papers should normally be submitted in English or in French. All manuscripts submitted for publication are considered with the understanding that they have not been published elsewhere. The papers will be only accepted based upon three referee箂 recommendations. Material such as figures and tables may not be reproduced from another publication unless it is absolutely essential to describe the current work. If this material must be used, permission to reproduce it must be obtained from the publisher and it must be properly referenced and acknowledged.
The JOURNAL OF NEW MATERIALS FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL SYSTEMS publishes preliminary notes. The preliminary notes submitted for publications must not be longer than three printed pages.
The manuscripts must be well organised. Material or details which are widely understood to those in the field or which can be covered by reference to other publications must be omitted. Duplication of material in figures and tables must be avoided. Brevity and clarity are essential. The manuscript must be carefully edited and proof-read before submission. Authors bear full responsibility for the content of their published papers.
Authors are urged to present their manuscripts in language of good quality and to obtain help in order to achieve this, if needed.
Detailed descriptions of apparatus, etc. are only to be given if such apparatus is new. All contributions will be referred.
2. SUBMISSION OF THE MANUSCRIPT
2.1. General
We request authors to send us the names and addresses of 3 possible referees. These should be persons who are publishing in the field as the submitted paper. One of these referees will be selected by the editor. Two referees will also chosen. Manuscripts must be submitted in quadruplicate. One original copy and three Xerox copies are acceptable. Please be sure to keep a copy of the manuscript for your file, as the original will not be returned.
Authors are asked to carefully follow the instructions given below in preparing their manuscripts. Paper not meeting these requirements may not appear in the Journal.
Each manuscript will be referred to three internationally acknowledged experts who will make recommendations as their quality. Only those receiving favourable recommendations from three referees will be accepted for publication.
Authors are asked to include their phone, fax number, e-mail address and to whom the correspondence should be addressed when submitting their manuscript.
2.2. Electronic submission
Upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication, authors will be requested to submit the final version of their paper in New Times Roman letters (if possible) and should be supplied in ASCII characters on 3.5 in diskette. This will improve the accuracy and speed in typesetting the manuscript. The following formats are suggested: a) DOS Format: Word for Windows, Word Perfect or b) Macintosh; McWrite, MS Word or Word Perfect. The figures may be sent in EPS, JPEG, PhotoCD, PICT, BMP or TIFF file formats.
3. FORMAT OF THE MANUSCRIPT
3.1. Style
Papers are to be divided into sections and subsections.
The manuscript must be typewritten clearly and accurately, using a fresh black typewriter ribbon or good quality laser printer. The text is to be 1.5 space, and typed using a standard typeface, e.g. pica, elite or Times roman, on one side only of 21.5 cm x 28 cm (8 1/2 x 11 in), good quality, white bond paper. The text is to be typed within an area of 23 cm (9 in) vertically by 16.5 cm (6 1/2 in) horizontally. The left, right, top and bottom margins should all be 2.5 cm(1 in.). All typed pages must be numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page.
3.2. Title of the manuscript, authors筺ames and affiliations
Section titles are to be typed in capitals and numbered with Arabic numerals starting at the left margin.
Subsection titles start at the left margin, are in upper and lower case letters and are numbered as exemplified in the heading of these instructions.
The title of the paper is to be typed in capital letters and centred 5 spaces below the top margin. After leaving a blank line (space), the authors?names (initials and surnames) followed by affiliations and short but complete addresses, including the country, are to be typed in upper and lower case, all centred about the vertical symmetry axis. The pages are to be numbered with a pencil on the reverse side in the middle of the lower margin.
3.3. Abstract
Every manuscript is to begin with a short abstract, which should not exceed 200 words. This abstract should be highly informative, and give a clear indication of the nature and implications of the results contained in the paper. The heading, ABSTRACT, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.4. Introduction
The introduction should be clear and brief. It must present the background and the nature of the subject matter. It should include the appropriate references on pertinent previously published papers and state why the subject matter is relevant to New Materials for Electrochemical Systems. The heading, INTRODUCTION, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.5. Experimental
The experimental sections must describe clearly all materials and the methods by which the results are obtained. The heading, EXPERIMENTAL, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.6. Results and Discussion
These should be as concise as possible. The heading, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.7. Conclusion
The conclusion should point out the major achievements of the findings, and outline their significance in the development of Electrochemical Systems. The heading, CONCLUSION, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.8. Mathematical expressions
All mathematical formulae must be typed or neatly printed in indelible ink. They are to be numbered consecutively with the numbers in parentheses. For clarity, one blank line should be left above and one blank line below the mathematical formulae.
Mathematical equations should be written on a single line, if possible, and include parentheses, brackets, negative exponents, etc. as appropriate.
3.9. Nomenclature
If the paper contains a section explaining the nomenclature used in the text, this section must have its own heading and immediately precede the Acknowledgements section.
3.10. Acknowledgements
The credits are to be given in the Acknowledgements section. The heading is to be in upper and lower case, and not underlined. The heading, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
3.11. References
All references should be listed at the end of the manuscript in the order in which they appear in the text. Within the text, they are to be numbered individually and consecutively in square brackets. The heading, REFERENCES, is to be typed in capital letters and centred.
Example: "According to a recent study [1]..." [1] is referred to at the end of the paper in the following style: [1]. M.J. Kahlich, H.A. Gasteiger, R.J. Behm, J. New Mat. Electrochem. Systems, 1, 39 (1998).
Do not use "et al", when listing reference numbers.

Draw line figures on good quality tracing paper. Label with a standard mechanical set or with the same typewriter used for the text. Glossy prints, Photostats or reprints of drawings may be used if they are high quality, with sharp, even lines and lettering. Photographs must be glossy prints and should be protected against bending when mailed. Micrographs must have a labelled unit length within the body of the picture; reduction for printing makes magnification meaningless.
Colour illustrations will be accepted; however, there is an additional charge for colour papers, which is needed to cover the cost of printing. The additional charge for publication is approximately CAN$ 1500-2000 per manuscript and CAN$ 150 per figure, with the exact charge calculated at the time of publication. No waivers of charges will be allowed in this case.

Axes for graphs and headings for tables should be given in quantity calculus form,e.g. current density as i (mA.cm-2 or A.m-2), potential as E (mV or V), times as t (s or h). Units are to be quoted (e.g. for the gas constant) in the form J mol-1 K-1.
Authors must follow the IUPAC-Physical University Division箂 砆uantities, units and symbols in Physical Chemistry?(Blackwell Scientific Publications, Oxford, London, Edinburgh, Boston, Melbourne, 1988) for symbols, abbreviations and signs of cell and electrode potentials.
For example, axes for graphs should be presented as follows
3.17. PUBLICATION CHARGES
To help meet the publication costs, a payment of CAN$ 60 per printed page is required for publication of the accepted manuscripts. If an author is unable to pay page charges due to a serious lack of funds, a waiver of the page charge may be requested for full papers. No waivers will be allowed for letters or for paper publishers with colours
