About the journal
|
The Journal of Labelled Compounds and Radiopharmaceuticals publishes original scientific manuscripts dealing with all aspects of research and development leading to and resulting in labelled compound preparation. Related areas such as analytical control, self radiolysis, quality control handling and storage, are also covered. Papers on compounds and tracer methods used in chemical, biochemical, biological, pharmacological, medical, genetic, agricultural and geochemical research and application also appear. All radionuclides and enriched stable nuclides are included.
Preparation and application of labelled compounds now pervades almost every area of scientific research both academic, medical and industrial. The Journal is devoted to reporting new developments from a multidisciplinary base.
Range of Topics
A partial list of topics includes:
- Radionuclide production.
- Cyclotron targetry.
- Neutron irradiation methodology.
- Precursor preparation and production.
- Synthesis (chemical, biochemical, radiation, isotope exchange, etc).
- Automation of nuclide production, precursor, preparation and synthesis.
- Analysis (methods, limitations, etc. for both radioactive and stable nuclides, including new detection techniques).
- Quality control (an essential requirement for valid data and especially for radiopharmaceuticals).
- Self radiolysis, stability and storage problems.
- Special problems relating to production and handling of Curie and multiCurie amounts of radioactivity.
- Theory and practice relating to carrier problems, `isotope' dilution, and other factors concerning stable nuclide and radionuclide use.
Manuscripts on applications are welcome where the focus is primarily on the preparation, or special aspects of use, of the labelled compound. |

Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript. A permission request form can be obtained on request from the journal editors or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Manuscripts will be returned if rejected, together with any referee reports. No manuscript or figures will be returned following publication unless a request for return is made when the manuscript is originally submitted.
Authors in Japan please note. Wiley-Japan can provide authors in Japan with a list of recommended services to check and improve the English of their papers before submission. Please contact Masayo Kobayashi in the Wiley-Japan office by e-mail (editorial@wiley.co.jp) or fax (03 3556 9763) for more information, stating which journal you are submitting to.
Electronic Submission
The electronic copy of the final, revised manuscript must be sent to the Editor together with the paper copy. Disks should be PC or Mac formatted; write on the disk the software package used, the name of the author and the name of the journal. We are able to use most word processing packages, but prefer Word or WordPerfect.
Illustrations must also be submitted in electronic format where possible (together with the matching hard copies). Save each figure as a separate file, in TIFF or EPS format preferably, and include the source file. Write on the disk the software package used to create them; we favour dedicated illustration packages over tools such as Excel or Powerpoint.
Manuscript Style
The language of the journal is English. All submissions, including book reviews, must have a title, be printed on one side of the paper, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3 cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript, not incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title, short title, and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full postal address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply a summary of up to 200 words for all articles. This is a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and is understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- Include 3 - 5 key words that describe your paper for indexing purposes.
- The body of the text should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Results and Discussion, Experimental, Conclusion, Acknowledgements, References.
- Provide a graphical abstract - a line diagram (scheme or structural formula), which illustrates the research represented by the article, for direct reproduction in the table of contents. The figure must not exceed an area of 7 cm wide by 4 cm deep, e.g.
- Authors may suggest up to five possible referees.
Types of Article
The journal welcomes the submission of original articles and short notes. Review articles will be considered following invitation by the Review Editors. Announcements for conferences and other items of interest to the readers of the journal may also be submitted for consideration.
- Research articles: 6 - 8 printed pages. Not to exceed 10 printed pages (c. 5000 words)
- Short notes: 2 - 3 printed pages. Not to exceed 4 printed pages (c. 2000 words)
- Technical note: 1 printed page
- Invited review articles: proposals for review articles may be submitted to the Review Editors for consideration in advance of preparation.
Formulae
Formulae should be numbered consecutively using arabic numerals where they are referred to in the text. The arabic numerals should be emboldened to avoid confusion with references.
Nomenclature
Nomenclature, abbreviations and symbols should follow the latest rules of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). In IUPAC nomenclature, isotopic substitution is indicated by a prefix consisting of (1) any necessary locant numeral or numerals; (2) the atomic symbol with the mass number as a superscript to the left of the symbol; and (3) a subscript (other than the unity) indicating the number of such atoms. Trivial names should be avoided unless the compound is to be mentioned often in the text, in which case a systematic name should also be given the first time the trivial name is used.
Reference Style
References should be cited by superscript numbers and listed at the end of the paper in the order in which they appear in the text. All references must be complete and accurate. Where possible the DOI for the reference should be included at the end of the reference. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include it in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
- Journal: Hutton WC, Likos JJ, Gard JK, Garbow JR. J Label Compd Radiopharm 1998; 41: 87 - 94. DOI: 10.1002/jlcr.000
- Book: Pleiss U, Voges R. Synthesis and Applications of Isotopically Labelled Compounds, vol 7. John Wiley & Sons Ltd: Chichester, 2001.
- Chapter: Hegedus LS. Palladium in organic synthesis. In Organometallics in Synthesis - A Manual, Schlosser M (ed). John Wiley & Sons Ltd: Chichester, 1994; 383 - 459.
- Website: The Oncology Website. http://www.mit.com/oncology/ [24 April 1999].
Illustrations
Supply each illustration on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript (not integrated within the text). Write the lead author's name and the figure number on the reverse, and make sure that the top of the figure is clearly indicated. Supply original photographs - photocopies or previously printed material will not be used. Line artwork should be supplied at the intended size for printing. It must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies); tints should be avoided. Lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible upon reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. The cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author.
Guidelines for Chemical Structures
Chemical structures should be supplied at the intended size for printing so that no enlargement or reduction is required. For drawings prepared with ChemDraw please use the following settings:

Copyright
To enable the publisher to disseminate the author's work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. Copies may be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
If the article contains extracts (including illustrations) from or is based in whole or in part on other copyright works (including, for the avoidance of doubt, material from on-line or intranet sources), the author, at the author's expense and in the form specified by the publisher, will obtain from the owners of the respective copyrights written permission to reproduce those extracts in the article in all territories and editions and in all media of expression and languages. All necessary permission forms must be submitted to the publisher on delivery of the article.
Further Information
Proofs will be sent to the nominated author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimize the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. 25 complimentary offprints of papers will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints and copies of the journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
