About the journal
|
The JAST "Tribologist" is the society's monthly journal and features explanations of new technologies, prospects for various research fields, and the research results of our members. JAST also publishes the latest research papers on general tribology such as friction, wear, lubrication, materials, and machine elements and articles in special editions edited to feature current subjects such as the "Trend of Lubricants for the Global Environment" (April 2006) and "Micro/nano Tribology Technology for Automobiles" (September 2006), and these are useful as up-to-date reference materials. Many JAST publications are useful in tribology business and education such as the "Tribology Handbook," "Tribology Glossary," "Case Studies of Tribology Failures and Countermeasures," and "Slide Bearing Materials" (all in Japanese). |

Instructions to Authors
Information for Contributors
PDF version of Information of Contributors is here.
- Aims and Scope
The electronic online journal "Tribology Online", published by the Japanese Society of Tribologists, JAST, aims to facilitate exchange of information through rapid publication of high quality papers for the worldwide development of tribology. The scope includes all aspects of tribology and other science and engineering areas which relate to the subjects of tribology. The journal is completely electronic, and is open to the world for free access through Internet.
|
- Type of Contribution
Tribology Online in its initial phase publishes original Short Communication Papers, which are intended to be preliminary reports of new concepts, findings, technological developments, reviews and opinions whose rapid publication will be important for a large number of readers in relevant fields.
|
- Originality
Submission of manuscripts implies that it has not been published previously, and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
|
- Ethics and responsibilities of authors
It is essential that all who participate in producing the journal conduct themselves as authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers in accord with the highest level of professional ethics and standards. By submitting a manuscript to this journal, each author implicitly confirms that it meets the highest ethical standards. Also, authors should be responsible for statements or opinions advanced in papers to be published in this journal.
|
- Length of Manuscripts
Recommended length for Short Communication Papers is four printed pages.
|
- Preparation of Manuscripts
It is a condition for publication that all manuscripts must be written in English and be prepared in electronic form with the specified layout and style of the journal. In order to speed up time for publication, and at the same time to maintain high quality of this online journal, authors are requested to use a MSWord template to prepare manuscript, and to submit manuscript, both new and revised, in Adobe PDF format. The final version of manuscript that has been accepted for publication should be submitted in MSWord document file format.
In the MSWord template for Short Communication Papers is disclosed Authors' Guide for Manuscript Preparation.
|
- Electronic Submission
- Refereeing
The manuscripts submitted are peer reviewed by at least two reviewers before they are:
| - |
accepted for publication with no changes required |
| - |
acceptable for publication after minor optional and/or mandatory revision(s) |
| - |
not accepted for publication - resubmission recommended after substantial revisions |
| - |
rejected for publication | Decisions regarding acceptance of manuscripts are made by the Editor based on reviewers' recommendation. Mandatory and/or optional revisions, and minor amendments, if any, are listed and sent to the authors, who are responsible for making required changes or improvements, or may state objections.
Evaluation of manuscripts of Short Communication Papers is based upon originality and technical quality. Significance of research, clarity in presentation, and whether proper English is used are also the points to be reviewed.
The authors when required revisions should submit the revised manuscript within two months after receipt of the list of comments and suggestions of the reviewers, otherwise the initial submission date is not retained.
Statements and opinions in published papers, even if changed or improved in the course of required revisions, are individual expressions of the authors and not those of the society.
|
- English native correction
When an article that has been accepted for publication needs English native correction, the Editor will ask the authors to do so before they submit the final version of the manuscript. Manuscripts below the acceptable level will not be published.
|
- Submission of final manuscripts
Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the authors are asked to electronically send the final version in the MSWord document file format.
|
- Publication Charges
- Errata
Correction of errors in Short Communication Papers previously published in Tribology Online may be disclosed in the journal errata pages. Authors should contact puboffice.trol@tribology.jp
|
- Rights and Permissions
TThe copyright in papers accepted for publication in "Tribology Online" becomes the property of the Japanese Society of Tribologists; all authors are asked to transfer copyright to the society prior to publication. COPYRIGHT TRANSFER FORM is here.
Reproduction of any part of the papers elsewhere, in printed or any other forms, is not allowed without written permission from the society, and from the authors.
JAST's policy is to grant permission to the authors to reproduce whole or substantial parts of their articles to recognized publications upon written request after the material has first been published in "Tribology Online". The authors are requested to cite reference to the original articles in the reproduced articles.
