About the journal
|
The Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control publishes theoretical and applied original papers in the traditional areas implied by its name, as well as papers in interdisciplinary areas. Theoretical papers are expected to present new theoretical developments and knowledge for controls of dynamical systems together with clear engineering motivation for the new theory. "Application" is taken to include modeling, simulation, and corroboration oftheory with emphasis on demonstrated practicality. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: adaptive and optimal control; uncertain systems and robust control; nonlinear systems and control; intelligent control; distributed parameter systems and control; energy systems and control; fluid control systems; instrumentation and components; manufacturing technology; aerospace systems; computer control; mechatronics; power systems; production systems; real time control; robotics; motion controls; transportation and bio-medical systems. |
Instructions to Authors
One purpose of the Society is to disseminate technical information of permanent interest through the publication of a series of Transactions journals
Papers selected for publication in the ASME Transactions are subject to a voluntary page charge of $75 per journal page, which will be invoiced, through the author, to the author's company, institute, or agency. Publication is not dependent upon payment of the voluntary page charge. As of January 2000, the standard length for an ASME Journal paper is nine (9) printed pages. Should the paper exceed this length, the lead author will be assessed a mandatory excess-page charge of $200 per page for each page over nine pages. This charge will be included, as a separate item, on the same invoice as the voluntary page charge. Payment is mandatory and does not entitle the author to free reprints. Such a paper will not be published until the author agrees to honor the mandatory page charge.
Since all Transactions papers are professionally typeset for publication, the papers need to be submitted as double-spaced, single-column manuscripts, prepared in a readable typeface, not less than 10 pt. in size, and double-spaced for ease of reading. ASME accepts manuscripts submitted as hard copy and in digital form.
Digital. Digital manuscripts can be submitted as Microsoft Word (both PC and Mac) or Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Requirements for digital copy can be found at: http://www.asme.org/pubs/MS4.html#PREPARING. Hard Copy. All manuscripts submitted as hard copyonly should be prepared as noted above. All special characters should be accounted for—either as part of the text file and appropriately styled (italic or boldface), or handwritten after output, if such characters do not exist in your program. Five copies of the manuscript should be submitted.
All manuscripts submitted to ASME must use SI (Metric) Units in text, figures, or tables. In addition to SI units, English units may be included parenthetically
All mathematical expressions should be included in the manuscript. Care should be taken to distinguish between capital and lowercase letters, between zero (0) and the letter (O), between the numerical (1) and the letter (l), etc. Mathematical expressions should fit into a single column when set in type. Equations that might extend beyond the width of one column (fractions that should not be broken or long expressions enclosed in parentheses) should be rephrased to go on two or more lines within column width. Fractional powers are preferred to root signs and should always be used in more elaborate formulas. The solidus (/) should be used instead of the horizontal line for fractions whenever possible. Numbers that identify mathematical expressions should be enclosed in parentheses. Refer to equations in the text as ‘‘Eq. (1),’’ or ‘‘Equation (1),’’ etc., at the beginning of a sentence. A nomenclature defining symbols should be included, except for brief communications, like Technical Briefs, where symbols are normally identified in the text.
Brief tables may be included in the text of the manuscript, but larger tables (more than six lines) should be created separately and assembled with the figures at the end of the manuscript. For detailed instructions on preparing hard copy graphics, go to http://www.asme.org/pubs/hardcopy illus.html, for information on submitting electronic graphics, refer to http://www.asme.org/pubs/elec illus.html. Color graph-ics are included in the electronic version of the journal at no additional cost to the author; however, for full color in print authors will be assessed the additional charges.
The text of an ASME paper should not exceed nine (9) printed pages in a journal. This corresponds to 42–45 total manuscript pages, typed double-spaced with 10 pt. type, with each figure counting as a page. A Technical Brief should not exceed two and a half journal pages. Discussions should not exceed 500 words, and closures normally should not exceed 250 words per discussion.
All references should be listed at the end of the text in the order in which they are cited (not alphabetical). References should include date of publication, full title, full name of source, and inclusive page numbers. References should be cited within the text in numerical order according to their order of appearance. The numbered reference citation should be enclosed in brackets, e.g., ‘‘It was shown by Prusa [1] that the width of the plume decreases under these conditions.’’ In the case of two citations, the numbers should be separated by a comma [1,2]. In the case of more than two reference citations, the numbers should be separated by a dash [5–7]. Acceptable references include: journal articles, dissertations, published conference proceedings, numbered paper preprints from conferences, books, reports available from the U.S. Government, submitted articles if the journal is identified, and private communications.

Authors can obtain the ASME Manual MS-4, ‘‘An ASME Paper,’’ at the ASME website (http://www.asme.org/pubs/MS4.html) and are urged to do so before drafting their papers in final form.
If the voluntary page charge has been honored, 100 reprints are provided to the author(s) upon publication of the paper at no additional cost. Reprints may be ordered from the Technical Publishing Department, ATTN: Marisol Andino, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Three Park Avenue, New York, NY 10016-5990. A reprint order form will be sent to the corresponding author after the article is typeset. All orders must be prepaid.
