About the journal
|
Many things have changed since the journal began publication over fifty years ago. Globalization, cosmeceuticals, and technology transfer-favored topics of conversation today - were not part of the vernacular back then.
Cosmetic science has many disciplines and applies basic knowledge from diverse areas. Many innovations result from the adaptation of technology. Ideas developed in other fields can frequently be borrowed, massaged, tweaked and transformed into useful cosmetic applications. |

Instructions to Authors
On behalf of the 2003 Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ Committee on Scientific Affairs (COSA), it is my pleasure to invite the submission of papers for the 2004 IFSCC Congress. Because we are expecting to receive hundreds of abstracts describing original work of the highest caliber, the entire abstract submission process will be processed through a dedicated website http://www.convenemachine.com/bregister.cgi?SCC. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2003. COSA will notify authors regarding abstract acceptance and the form of presentation (podium or poster) by January, 2004.
As you know, the theme for the congress is Cosmetic Science: Unlocking the Mystery, Fantasy and reality. COSA would like to see this theme unfold in the podium presentations that will be given and posters that will be displayed. For example, MYSTERY might include the uncovering of new clues in our understanding of previously unsolved cosmetic chemistry problems or new insights into the molecular mechanisms of disease/damage/repair. FANTASY would be represented by novel studies describing true innovation in any area of cosmetic science. And REALITY would include, for example, original work using objective measurements to characterize what was previously known only in subjective terms.
COSA encourages you to submit your original work that you deem would be of high interest to the Congress audience. As a guide, please consider submission of papers from the following topics:
"Appearance": How does a product or technology make us look better? Areas included in this topic would be Skin, Hair, Whitening, Wrinkles, Shine, Radiance, Elasticity, Pigmentation, Cellulite, etc.
"Protection and Repair": What is the damage? What protects us? How is the damage repaired? Areas included in this topic would be Sunscreens, Barrier Creams, Antioxidants, Moisturizers, AHA, etc.
"Decorative Cosmetics": How does a change in color change who we appear to be? Areas included in this topic would be Hair Color, Nail Color, Lip Color, Tattoos, Color Cosmetics, etc.
"Delivery Systems": How does it work? Areas included in this topic would be Nano Technology, Colloid Science, Emulsions, Targeted Delivery, Encapsulation, etc.
"Sensory Biology and Aesthetics": Why do we feel different? Areas included in this topic would be Olfaction, Fragrance, Aromatherapy, Mechano-sensing, Safety, etc. I am anticipating many interesting abstract submissions from our members around the world and these abstracts will form the basis of a stimulating and informative Congress Program that will indeed unlock the mystery, fantasy and reality of cosmetic science!

Instructions For Submission All abstracts, podium and poster, must be submitted in electronic form. The dedicated website for abstract submission is http://www.convenemachine.com/bregister.cgi?SCC
All abstracts must be written in English. Specific formatting requirements and submission instructions are available on the website.
Abstracts must have not been published or presented at any national or international meeting prior to the Congress. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2003. No abstracts will be accepted after this date.
The abstract should be informative, containing (a) a sentence statement of the study’s specific objective(s), (b) brief statement of methods, if pertinent, (c) summary of results obtained and (d) statement of conclusions.
Authors will be notified if their abstract has been selected by January 31, 2004. Completed manuscripts must be submitted by June 1, 2004 for inclusion in the final program.
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists holds the copyright for all accepted papers. After December 2004, the SCC requests all authors to submit their paper to their own Society's Journal, if applicable. A reference to the 2004 IFSCC Congress should be made.
