Instructions to Authors
Submit five (5) double-spaced copies of papers and notes or four (4) copies of discussions to the Journals Department along with a completed ASCE Sizing Guide. Check manuscript length limitations listed below. Every author should note the Specialty Area that should handle the review (see "Information for Authors" for a complete list). Also all manuscripts submitted to the journal should be accompanied by a list of four potential reviewers suggested by the author (s). This list should include for each reviewer the complete name, address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and at least five keywords that identify the expertise of each reviewer. The journal is not obliged to use any of the recommended reviewers; however, we feel that this policy will lead to an improved review process.
Write, phone or email the Journals Department for ASCE Authors Guide to Journals, Books, and Reference Publications for complete instructions for manuscript preparation. You can access the ASCE Authors’ Guide to Journals, Books, and Reference Publications on the Publications Web site. It is also available in printed form and can be obtained by writing or phoning the Journals Department at ASCE, 1801 Alexander Bell Drive, Reston, Virginia, 20191-4400; 1-703-295-6290.
Length Requirements
For most ASCE journals, the maximum number of words or word-equivalents is 10,000 for papers, 3,500 for notes, and 2,000 for discussions. The editor may waive these restrictions to encourage papers on topics that cannot be treated within these limitations. Such topics may include state-of-the-art reviews and detailed case histories. However, authors are advised that most topics can be covered within these limitations, and that the editors of this journal require clear justification for longer manuscripts. Please use the ASCE Sizing Guide to determine the length and include a copy of the form with your submission.
SI Units
The use of System International (SI) units as primary units of measure is mandatory. Other units may be given in parenthesis after the SI unit if the author desires. More information about SI units can be found in the ASCE Author Guide or from NIST.
CE Database subject headings
The subject headings are assigned by the manager of the Civil Engineering Database (www.pubs.asce.org) using a thesaurus also available on the ASCE website. New subject headings are added to the thesaurus as warranted. We welcome the inclusion of subject headings with your final manuscript; however, the subject headings you provide should be chosen from the list on the website.
Reprints
Authors can order reprints using reprint order forms provided by the Production Department or on the internet at http://www.pubs.asce.org/authors/jrnlreprint.pdf.
JOURNAL OF CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENTS INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
The Journal of Construction Engineering and Management is the technical publication of the Construction Institute (CI) of ASCE. The mission of the institute, as stated in the annual ASCE Official Register, is to "improve the state of construction practice through both the development of knowledge and technology transfer" and to "advance the knowledge and practice of construction". Consistent with this purpose, the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management publishes papers that aim to advance the science of construction engineering, to harmonize construction practices with design theories, and to further education and research in construction engineering and management. Both research and practical papers, including case studies, are welcome.
Papers submitted to the journal must contain a paragraph showing their relevance to industry practitioners and/or researchers, or both. A summary of these benefits should also be stated in the Abstract. The use of real world data is encouraged, as it will provide a more practical, yet rigorous perspective. Authors should also be sure to note on the title page of their manuscripts whether the audience is researchers or practitioners and researchers. The paper will be rated for its relevance to practitioners and academics as well as for its intellectual and technical content.
The members of the Publications Committee represent 10 specialty areas, each with a special editor in charge of overseeing all papers submitted to that specialty group. These specialty areas defined below. Ever author submitting a paper to the journal is requested to send it to ASCE, Journals Department, and indicate the specialty area to which it should be directed.
For further information about manuscript submission, see "General Information" page.
SPECIALTY AREAS
