About the journal
Journal of Biological Systems (JBS)
Journal of Biological Systems is published quarterly. The goal of the journal is to promote interdisciplinary approaches in Biology and in Medicine. Mathematical methods and general systems theory should be brought into the study of biological situations. The Journal solicits original research papers and survey articles in areas that include (but are not limited to):
- General systems theory
- Complex systems studies; isomorphies; nonlinear dynamics; entropy; mathematical tools and systems theories with applications in Biology and Medicine.
- Interdisciplinary approaches in Biology and Medicine
- Transfer of methods from one discipline to another; integration of biological levels, from atomic to molecular, macromolecular, cellular, and organic levels; animal biology; plant biology.
- Environmental studies
- Relationships between individuals, populations, communities and ecosystems; bioeconomics, management of renewable resources; hierarchy theory; integration of spatial and time scales.
- Evolutionary biology
- Co-evolutions; genetics and evolution.
- Medical systems
- Physiology; cardiac modeling; computer models in Medicine.
- Numerical simulations and computations
- Numerical study and analysis of biological data.
- Epistemology
- Interdisciplinary transfers of concepts; knowledge; education; history of science.
The journal will also publish book reviews.
Instructions to Authors
The manuscript should be clearly typed in English, with double spacing, on one side of 8.5" X 11" or A4 papers with ample margins on all sides. All pages of the manuscript should be numbered.
Authors, whose first language is not English, should ensure correct English usage to avoid their paper from being rejected due to poor English usage.
Section Headings Sections should be numbered as, e.g., 1, 1.3, 2.3.5.
Tables and Figures They should be numbered as, e.g., Table 1, Fig. 1. They should each occupy a separate page. A set of original India ink drawings, glossy prints, or laser-printed figures must be supplied when the paper is accepted; they should be clear enough even after 50% reduction. The final printed size of figures will not exceed 5" X 7.5". Each figure should be identified by the names of the authors and the figure number. A list of figure captions should be given on a separate sheet. Color illustrations should be avoided whenever possible.
Displayed Equations They should be numbered sequentially in each section with the number flushed right. They should be referred to in the text as, e.g., (2.3) or Eq. (2.3).
Footnotes They should be avoided whenever possible. Each footnote should appear at the bottom of the page on which it is cited in the text and should be indicated consecutively in the text with superscript Arabic numerals.
Acknowledgements This section should come before the References and should be numbered. Funding information may also be included here.
References They should be referred to in the text by their numbers. The reference list appearing at the end of the paper should include all authors' names, paper title, publisher's name and place of publication in the case of books, first and last page of the paper, and should be arranged in alphabetical order. For example:
- Lint B., Communication issues in parallel algorithms and computers. PhD thesis, Univ. of Texas at Austin, 1979.
- Palm G., Information Theory (MIT Press, Cambridge, MA) in press.
Manuscripts can also be sent to the publisher via Web-based submission.
